所罗门的箴言（续）
25 以下也是所罗门的箴言，由犹大王希西迦的人抄录。
2 将事隐藏是上帝的荣耀，
把事查明是君王的光荣。
3 天之高，地之厚，
君王的心测不透。
4 除掉银子里的渣滓，
银匠就能铸造器皿。
5 清除君王身边的恶人，
王位必因公义而巩固。
6 不可在王面前妄自尊大，
不要占据大人物的位子。
7 与其在权贵面前受羞辱，
不如等人邀请你坐上座。
8 不可鲁莽地打官司，
以免败诉、羞愧难当。
9 遇到跟邻舍争讼，
不可泄露其秘密，
10 免得听见的人辱骂你，
你的恶名将永难洗刷。
11 一句话说得合宜，
就像金苹果放在银器里。
12 对受教者而言，
智者的责备犹如金耳环和金饰物。
13 忠信的使者叫主人心里舒畅，
就像夏收之时有冰雪的凉气。
14 夸口送礼物却食言的人，
就像没有雨水的风和云。
15 坚忍说服君王，
柔舌折断骨头。
16 找到蜂蜜要酌量而食，
免得吃多了呕吐。
17 不要频频去邻舍家，
免得惹人烦、遭人厌。
18 作伪证陷害邻舍的人，
无异于大锤、刀和利箭。
19 危难时投靠奸诈之人，
形同倚靠坏牙和跛脚。
20 对忧伤的人唱歌，
如同天寒脱衣、伤口撒盐。
21 你的仇敌若饿了，
就给他吃的；
若渴了，就给他水喝；
22 因为你这是把炭火堆在他头上，
耶和华必奖赏你。
23 北风带来雨水，
谗言激起愤怒。
24 宁愿住在屋顶的一角，
不跟争闹的妻子同屋。
25 有好消息从远方传来，
如凉水滋润干渴的人。
26 义人向恶人低头，
就像清泉被搅浑，
水井受污染。
27 蜂蜜吃得太多有害无益，
追求自己的荣耀也不光彩。
28 无法自制的人就像被攻破的无墙之城。

Further Wise Sayings of Solomon
25 These are other proverbs of Solomon that the officials of King Hezekiah of Judah copied.
2 It is the glory of God to conceal things,
but the glory of kings is to search things out.
3 Like the heavens for height, like the earth for depth,
so the mind of kings is unsearchable.
4 Take away the dross from the silver,
and the smith has material for a vessel;
5 take away the wicked from the presence of the king,
and his throne will be established in righteousness.
6 Do not put yourself forward in the king’s presence
or stand in the place of the great;
7 for it is better to be told, ‘Come up here’,
than to be put lower in the presence of a noble.
What your eyes have seen
8 do not hastily bring into court;
for[a] what will you do in the end,
when your neighbour puts you to shame?
9 Argue your case with your neighbour directly,
and do not disclose another’s secret;
10 or else someone who hears you will bring shame upon you,
and your ill repute will have no end.
11 A word fitly spoken
is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.
12 Like a gold ring or an ornament of gold
is a wise rebuke to a listening ear.
13 Like the cold of snow in the time of harvest
are faithful messengers to those who send them;
they refresh the spirit of their masters.
14 Like clouds and wind without rain
is one who boasts of a gift never given.
15 With patience a ruler may be persuaded,
and a soft tongue can break bones.
16 If you have found honey, eat only enough for you,
or else, having too much, you will vomit it.
17 Let your foot be seldom in your neighbour’s house,
otherwise the neighbour will become weary of you and hate you.
18 Like a war club, a sword, or a sharp arrow
is one who bears false witness against a neighbour.
19 Like a bad tooth or a lame foot
is trust in a faithless person in time of trouble.
20 Like vinegar on a wound[b]
is one who sings songs to a heavy heart.
Like a moth in clothing or a worm in wood,
sorrow gnaws at the human heart.[c]
21 If your enemies are hungry, give them bread to eat;
and if they are thirsty, give them water to drink;
22 for you will heap coals of fire on their heads,
and the Lord will reward you.
23 The north wind produces rain,
and a backbiting tongue, angry looks.
24 It is better to live in a corner of the housetop
than in a house shared with a contentious wife.
25 Like cold water to a thirsty soul,
so is good news from a far country.
26 Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain
are the righteous who give way before the wicked.
27 It is not good to eat much honey,
or to seek honour on top of honour.
28 Like a city breached, without walls,
is one who lacks self-control.

25 (A) Dessa ordspråk är också av Salomo, samlade av Juda kung Hiskias män[a].
2 (B) Det är Guds ära att dölja en sak
och kungars ära att utforska den.
3 Himlens höjd och jordens djup
och kungars hjärtan
kan ingen utforska.
4 Ta bort slagget från silvret,
så får guldsmeden fram ett kärl.
5 (C) Ta bort de gudlösa ur kungens tjänst,
så blir hans tron befäst
genom rättfärdighet.
6 Förhäv dig inte inför kungen
och ställ dig inte
på de storas plats.
7 (D) Det är bättre att han säger till dig:
”Kom upp hit!”[b]
än att du flyttas ner
för en förnämare man
som dina ögon har sett[c].
8 Var inte för snabb
att starta en rättstvist,
för vad gör du längre fram
om din motpart skämmer
ut dig?
9 (E) Lägg fram din egen sak
mot din motpart,
men röj inte någon annans
hemlighet.
10 Annars kan den som hör det
klandra dig,
och du får dåligt rykte
för all framtid.
11 (F) Som guldäpplen i silverinfattning
är ord som talas i rätt tid.
12 (G) Som en ring av guld
och ett gyllene smycke
är en vis förmanare
för ett lyssnande öra.
13 (H) Som svalkande snö på en skördedag[d]
är en pålitlig budbärare
för den som sänt honom.
Han ger nytt liv åt sin herres själ.
14 (I) Som moln och vind utan regn
är den som skryter med gåvor
han inte ger.
15 (J) Med tålamod kan furstar övertalas,
en mild tunga kan krossa ben.
16 (K) Hittar du honung, ät lagom,
så att du inte blir övermätt
och kräks.
17 Sätt inte din fot i din väns hus
för ofta,
så att han tröttnar på dig
och avskyr dig.
18 (L) En stridshammare, ett svärd
och en skarp pil
är den som vittnar falskt
mot sin nästa.
19 (M) Som en ruttnande tand
och en slintande fot
är förtroende för en svekfull
på nödens dag.
20 (N) Att sjunga sånger
för ett sorgset hjärta
är som att klä av sig en vinterdag
eller som syra på soda[e].
21 (O) Om din fiende är hungrig,
ge honom att äta,
om han är törstig,
ge honom att dricka.[f]
22 Då samlar du glödande kol
på hans huvud,
och Herren ska belöna dig.
23 Nordanvind för med sig regn,
tasslande tunga sura miner.
24 (P) Bättre bo i en vrå på taket
än dela huset
med en grälsjuk kvinna.
25 Som friskt vatten för en törstig själ
är gott budskap från fjärran land.
26 Som en grumlad källa
och en förorenad brunn
är en rättfärdig som ger efter
för en gudlös.
27 Att äta för mycket honung
är inte gott,
att söka sin egen ära
är inte ärofullt.[g]

- 25:1 Hiskias män Kung Hiskia (715-687 f Kr) återupprättade templet med dess präster och leviter (2 Krön 29-31). I kretsen kring honom (Jes 37:2) fanns även profeten Jesaja.

- 25:7 som dina ögon har sett Enligt en annan tolkning hör orden till nästa ordspråk: ”Vad dina ögon har sett ska du inte vara för snabb att starta en rättstvist om”.

King James Version
25 These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
3 The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
5 Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
6 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:
7 For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.
8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:
10 Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.
11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
12 As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
14 Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.
15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.
17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.
18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
20 As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.
21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.
23 The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
24 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.
25 As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.
27 It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.
28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
