24 ¶ No tengas envidia de los hombres malos, ni desees estar con ellos;
2 porque su corazón piensa en robar, y maldad hablan sus labios.
3 ¶ Con sabiduría se edificará la casa, y con inteligencia se afirmará;
4 y con ciencia se llenarán las cámaras de todas las riquezas preciosas y hermosas.
5 El hombre sabio es fuerte; y el hombre entendido es valiente de fuerza.
6 Porque con sabios consejos harás la guerra; y la salvación está en la multitud de consejeros.
7 ¶ Alta está para el loco la sabiduría; en la puerta no abrirá él su boca.
8 Al que piensa mal hacer le llamarán hombre de malos pensamientos.
9 El pensamiento del loco es pecado; y abominación a los hombres el burlador.
10 ¶ Si fueres flojo en el día de tribulación, tu fuerza será reducida.
11 ¶ Si dejares de librar los que son tomados para la muerte, y los que son llevados al degolladero;
12 si dijeres: Ciertamente no lo supimos; ¿no lo entenderá el que pesa los corazones? El que mira por tu alma, él lo conocerá, y dará al hombre según sus obras.
13 ¶ Come, hijo mío, de la miel, porque es buena, y del panal dulce a tu paladar;
14 tal será el conocimiento de la sabiduría a tu alma, si la hallares; y al fin tu esperanza no será cortada.
15 ¶ Oh impío, no aceches la tienda del justo, no saquees su cámara;
16 porque siete veces cae el justo, y vuelve a levantarse; mas los impíos caerán en el mal.
17 ¶ Cuando cayere tu enemigo, no te regocijes; y cuando tropezare, no se alegre tu corazón;
18 para que el SEÑOR no lo mire, y le desagrade, y aparte de sobre él su enojo.
19 ¶ No te entremetas con los malignos, ni tengas envidia de los impíos;
20 porque para el malo no habrá buen fin, y la lámpara de los impíos será apagada.
21 ¶ Teme al SEÑOR, hijo mío, y al rey; no te entremetas con los veleidosos;
22 porque su quebrantamiento se levantará de repente; y el quebrantamiento de ambos, ¿quién lo comprenderá?
23 ¶ También estas cosas pertenecen a los sabios. Tener acepción de personas en el juicio no es bueno.
24 El que dijere al malo: Justo eres, los pueblos lo maldecirán, y le detestarán las naciones;
25 mas los que lo reprenden, serán agradables, y sobre ellos vendrá bendición de bien.
26 Besados serán los labios del que responde palabras rectas.
27 ¶ Prepara tus labores de afuera, y disponlas en tu heredad; y después edificarás tu casa.
28 ¶ No seas testigo falso contra tu prójimo; y no lisonjees con tus labios.
29 No digas: Como me hizo, así le haré; daré el pago al varón según su obra.
30 ¶ Pasé junto a la heredad del hombre perezoso, y junto a la viña del hombre falto de entendimiento;
31 y he aquí que por toda ella habían ya crecido espinas, ortigas habían ya cubierto su faz, y su cerca de piedra estaba ya destruida.
32 Y yo miré, y lo puse en mi corazón; lo vi, y tomé castigo.
33 Un poco de sueño, cabeceando otro poco, poniendo mano sobre mano otro poco para dormir;
34 así vendrá como caminante tu necesidad, y tu pobreza como hombre de escudo.

Ni desees estar con ellos;
2 Porque su corazón piensa en robar,
E iniquidad hablan sus labios.
3 Con sabiduría se edificará la casa,
Y con prudencia se afirmará;
4 Y con ciencia se llenarán las cámaras
De todo bien preciado y agradable.
5 El hombre sabio es fuerte,
Y de pujante vigor el hombre docto.
6 Porque con ingenio harás la guerra,
Y en la multitud de consejeros está la victoria.
7 Alta está para el insensato la sabiduría;
En la puerta no abrirá él su boca.
8 Al que piensa hacer el mal,
Le llamarán hombre de malos pensamientos.
9 El pensamiento del necio es pecado,
Y abominación a los hombres el escarnecedor.
10 Si fueres flojo en el día de trabajo,
Tu fuerza será reducida.
11 Libra a los que son llevados a la muerte;
Salva a los que están en peligro de muerte.
12 Porque si dijeres: Ciertamente no lo supimos,
¿Acaso no lo entenderá el que pesa los corazones?
El que mira por tu alma, él lo conocerá,
Y dará al hombre según sus obras.
13 Come, hijo mío, de la miel, porque es buena,
Y el panal es dulce a tu paladar.
14 Así será a tu alma el conocimiento de la sabiduría;
Si la hallares tendrás recompensa,
Y al fin tu esperanza no será cortada.
15 Oh impío, no aceches la tienda del justo,
No saquees su cámara;
16 Porque siete veces cae el justo, y vuelve a levantarse;
Mas los impíos caerán en el mal.
17 Cuando cayere tu enemigo, no te regocijes,
Y cuando tropezare, no se alegre tu corazón;
18 No sea que Jehová lo mire, y le desagrade,
Y aparte de sobre él su enojo.
19 No te entremetas con los malignos,
Ni tengas envidia de los impíos;
20 Porque para el malo no habrá buen fin,
Y la lámpara de los impíos será apagada.
21 Teme a Jehová, hijo mío, y al rey;
No te entremetas con los veleidosos;
22 Porque su quebrantamiento vendrá de repente;
Y el quebrantamiento de ambos,
¿quién lo comprende?
23 También estos son dichos de los sabios:
Hacer acepción de personas en el juicio no es bueno.
24 El que dijere al malo: Justo eres,
Los pueblos lo maldecirán, y le detestarán las naciones;
25 Mas los que lo reprendieren tendrán felicidad,
Y sobre ellos vendrá gran bendición.
26 Besados serán los labios
Del que responde palabras rectas.
27 Prepara tus labores fuera,
Y disponlas en tus campos,
Y después edificarás tu casa.
28 No seas sin causa testigo contra tu prójimo,
Y no lisonjees con tus labios.
29 No digas: Como me hizo, así le haré;
Daré el pago al hombre según su obra.
30 Pasé junto al campo del hombre perezoso,
Y junto a la viña del hombre falto de entendimiento;
31 Y he aquí que por toda ella habían crecido los espinos,
Ortigas habían ya cubierto su faz,
Y su cerca de piedra estaba ya destruida.
32 Miré, y lo puse en mi corazón;
Lo vi, y tomé consejo.
33 Un poco de sueño, cabeceando otro poco,
Poniendo mano sobre mano otro poco para dormir;
34 Así vendrá como caminante tu necesidad,
Y tu pobreza como hombre armado.(A)

ni procures su compañía;
2 porque en su corazón planean violencia
y no hablan más que de cometer fechorías.

3 Con sabiduría se construye la casa;
con inteligencia se echan los cimientos.
4 Con buen juicio se llenan sus cuartos
de bellos y extraordinarios tesoros.
22
5 El que es sabio tiene gran poder
y el que es entendido aumenta su fuerza.
6 La guerra se hace con buena estrategia;
la victoria se alcanza con muchos consejeros.

7 La sabiduría no está al alcance del necio,
en los tribunales del pueblo[a] nada tiene que decir.

8 Al que hace planes malvados
lo llamarán conspirador.
9 Las intrigas del necio son pecado
y todos aborrecen a los insolentes.
25
10 Si en el día de la aflicción te desanimas,
muy limitada es tu fortaleza.
11 Rescata a los que van rumbo a la muerte;
detén a los que a tumbos avanzan al suplicio.
12 Pues aunque digas: «Yo no lo sabía»,
¿no habrá de darse cuenta el que examina los corazones?
¿No habrá de saberlo el que vigila tu vida?
¡Él paga a cada uno según sus acciones!

13 Come la miel, hijo mío, que es deliciosa;
dulce al paladar es la miel del panal.
14 Ten en cuenta que así es la sabiduría a tu alma;
si das con ella, tendrás buen futuro;
tendrás una esperanza que no será destruida.

15 No aceches cual malvado la casa del justo
ni arrases el lugar donde habita;
16 porque siete veces podrá caer el justo,
pero otras tantas se levantará;
los malvados, en cambio,
se hundirán en la desgracia.

17 No te alegres cuando caiga tu enemigo
ni se regocije tu corazón ante su desgracia,
18 no sea que el Señor lo vea y no lo apruebe,
y aparte de él su enojo.
29
19 No te alteres por causa de los malvados
ni sientas envidia de los impíos,
20 porque el malvado no tiene porvenir;
¡la lámpara del impío se apagará!
30
21 Hijo mío, teme al Señor y honra al rey
y no te juntes con los rebeldes,
22 porque de los dos recibirás un castigo repentino
¡y quién sabe qué calamidades sobrevendrán!
Otros dichos de los sabios
23 También estos son dichos de los sabios:
No es correcto ser parcial en el juicio.
24 Quien declare inocente al culpable
lo maldecirán los pueblos y lo despreciarán las naciones.
25 Pero serán bien vistos y bendecidos
los que condenen al culpable.
26 Una respuesta sincera
es como un beso en los labios.
27 Prepara primero tus faenas de cultivo
y ten listos tus campos para la siembra;
después de eso, construye tu casa.
28 No testifiques sin razón contra tu prójimo
ni mientas con tus labios.
29 No digas: «Le haré lo mismo que me hizo;
me desquitaré por lo que me hizo».
30 Pasé por el campo del perezoso,
por la viña del falto de juicio.
31 Había espinas por todas partes;
la hierba cubría el terreno
y el lindero de piedras estaba en ruinas.
32 Guardé en mi corazón lo observado
y de lo visto saqué una lección:
33 Un corto sueño, una breve siesta,
un pequeño descanso, cruzado de brazos…
34 ¡y te asaltará la pobreza como un bandido,
y la escasez como un hombre armado!

7 Wisdom is too high for fools;
in the assembly at the gate they must not open their mouths.

will be known as a schemer.
9 The schemes of folly are sin,
and people detest a mocker.

10 If you falter in a time of trouble,

11 Rescue those being led away to death;

12 If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,”
does not he who weighs(I) the heart perceive it?

13 Eat honey, my son, for it is good;
honey from the comb is sweet to your taste.
14 Know also that wisdom is like honey for you:
If you find it, there is a future hope for you,
and your hope will not be cut off.(L)

15 Do not lurk like a thief near the house of the righteous,
do not plunder their dwelling place;
16 for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again,
but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.(M)

17 Do not gloat(N) when your enemy falls;
when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice,(O)
18 or the Lord will see and disapprove
and turn his wrath away from them.(P)
Saying 29
19 Do not fret(Q) because of evildoers
or be envious of the wicked,
20 for the evildoer has no future hope,
and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.(R)
Saying 30
21 Fear the Lord and the king,(S) my son,
and do not join with rebellious officials,
22 for those two will send sudden destruction(T) on them,
and who knows what calamities they can bring?
Further Sayings of the Wise
23 These also are sayings of the wise:(U)
To show partiality(V) in judging is not good:(W)
24 Whoever says to the guilty, “You are innocent,”(X)
will be cursed by peoples and denounced by nations.
25 But it will go well with those who convict the guilty,
and rich blessing will come on them.
26 An honest answer
is like a kiss on the lips.
27 Put your outdoor work in order
and get your fields ready;
after that, build your house.
28 Do not testify against your neighbor without cause(Y)—
would you use your lips to mislead?
29 Do not say, “I’ll do to them as they have done to me;
I’ll pay them back for what they did.”(Z)
30 I went past the field of a sluggard,(AA)
past the vineyard of someone who has no sense;
31 thorns had come up everywhere,
the ground was covered with weeds,
and the stone wall was in ruins.
32 I applied my heart to what I observed
and learned a lesson from what I saw:
33 A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest(AB)—
34 and poverty will come on you like a thief
and scarcity like an armed man.(AC)

2 For their heart studieth oppression,
And their lips talk of mischief.
3 Through wisdom is a house builded;
And by understanding it is established;
4 And by knowledge are the chambers filled
With all precious and pleasant riches.
5 A wise man [a]is strong;
Yea, a man of knowledge [b]increaseth might.
6 For by wise guidance thou shalt make thy war;
And in the multitude of counsellors there is [c]safety.
7 Wisdom is too high for a fool:
He openeth not his mouth in the gate.
8 He that deviseth to do evil,
Men shall call him a mischief-maker.
9 The thought of foolishness is sin;
And the scoffer is an abomination to men.
10 If thou faint in the day of adversity,
Thy strength is small.
11 Deliver them that are carried away unto death,
And those that are [d]ready to be slain [e]see that thou hold back.
12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew not [f]this;
Doth not he that weigheth the hearts consider it?
And he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it?

14 So shalt thou know wisdom to be unto thy soul;
If thou hast found it, then shall there be a reward,
And thy hope shall not be cut off.

Destroy not his [i]resting-place:
16 For a righteous man falleth seven times, and riseth up again;
But the wicked are overthrown by calamity.
17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth,
And let not thy heart be glad when he is overthrown;
18 Lest Jehovah see it, and it displease him,
And he turn away his wrath from him.
19 Fret not thyself because of evil-doers;
Neither be thou envious at the wicked:
20 For there shall be no reward to the evil man;
The lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
21 My son, fear thou Jehovah and the king;
And company not with them that are given to change:
22 For their calamity shall rise suddenly;
And the destruction [j]from them both, who knoweth it?
23 These also are sayings of the wise.
To have respect of persons in judgment is not good.
24 He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous,
Peoples shall curse him, nations shall abhor him;
25 But to them that rebuke him shall be delight,
And a good blessing shall come upon them.
26 He [k]kisseth the lips
Who giveth a right answer.
27 Prepare thy work without,
And make it ready for thee in the field;
And afterwards build thy house.
28 Be not a witness against thy neighbor without cause;
[l]And deceive not with thy lips.
29 Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me;
I will render to the man according to his work.
30 I went by the field of the sluggard,
And by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
31 And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns,
The face thereof was covered with [m]nettles,
And the stone wall thereof was broken down.
32 Then I beheld, and considered well;
I saw, and received instruction:
