¹⁸集思出良策，
    征戰靠智謀。
¹⁹嚼舌的人洩露秘密，
    不可結交多嘴的人。
²⁰咒罵父母的人，
    他的生命^[a]必消逝在黑暗中。

¹⁸Purposes and plans are established by counsel; and [only] with good advice make or carry on war.

¹⁹He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets; therefore associate not with him who talks too freely.^(A)

²⁰Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in complete darkness.

¹⁸Plans are established by seeking advice;
so if you wage war, obtain guidance.^(A)

¹⁹A gossip betrays a confidence;^(B)
so avoid anyone who talks too much.

²⁰If someone curses their father or mother,^(C)
their lamp will be snuffed out in pitch darkness.^(D)
