敬畏 神必得好处
19 行为完全的穷人，
胜过说话欺诈的愚昧人。
2 一个人没有知识是不好的，
脚步匆忙的，难免失足。
3 人的愚妄毁灭自己的道路；
他的心却恼怒耶和华。
4 财富使朋友增多，
但穷人连他的一个朋友也与他分离。
5 作假见证的必难免受惩罚；
吐出谎言的必不能逃脱。
6 尊贵的人，很多人求他的情面；
慷慨施赠的，人人都作他的朋友。
7 贫穷人的兄弟都恨他；
他的朋友更疏远他。
虽然他多多恳求他们，他们却不理会。
8 得着智慧的，爱惜自己的性命；
保持明达的，必得益处。
9 作假见证的必难免受惩罚；
吐出谎言的终必灭亡。
10 愚昧人生活奢侈是不相称的，
何况奴仆管辖领袖呢！
11 人的明慧使他不轻易动怒；
宽恕别人过失的，是自己的荣耀。
12 王的忿怒，好象狮子的吼叫，
他的恩宠，如同草上的朝露。
13 愚昧的儿子是父亲的祸患，
吵闹的妻子好象雨水不停地滴漏。
14 房屋与财富是祖宗遗留的产业；
唯有明慧的妻子是耶和华所赐的。
15 懒惰使人沉睡，
闲懒的人必受饥饿。
16 谨守诫命的，保全自己的性命；
轻忽自己道路的，必致死亡。
17 恩待穷人的，等于借钱给耶和华；
他所行的，耶和华必偿还。
18 趁着还有指望的时候，要管教你的儿子；
不可存心使他死亡。
19 常发烈怒的人，必须受罚，
如果你帮助他，就必须一而再帮助他。
20 你要听劝告，受管教，
好使你将来作个有智慧的人。
21 人心里的谋算很多，
唯有耶和华的计划能实现。
22 人所渴望的，就是忠诚；
作穷人比作撒谎的人还好。
23 敬畏耶和华的，得着生命；
他必安居知足，不会遭受祸患。
24 懒惰人把手放在盘子里，
连拿食物送回口边，也不愿意。
25 责打好讥笑人的，愚蒙人就会变得精明；
责备聪明人，他就会明白知识。
26 虐待父亲，赶走母亲的，
是贻羞可耻的儿子。
27 我儿，你若是停止听受管教，
就会偏离知识的言语。
28 无赖作见证，嘲笑公平，
恶人的口，吞吃罪孽。
29 刑罚是为好讥笑人的预备的，
鞭打是为愚昧人的背预备的。

19 Mieux vaut un pauvre qui se conduit de façon intègre
qu’un homme aux paroles tordues, car celui-ci est un insensé.
2 Dans un désir irréfléchi, il n’y a rien de bon
et précipiter ses pas fait commettre une faute.
3 La sottise d’un homme cause son naufrage,
alors il s’en prend à l’Eternel.
4 Si vous êtes riche, vos amis se multiplient,
mais le pauvre est abandonné par son compagnon.
5 Le faux témoin ne restera pas impuni,
qui répand le mensonge n’échappera pas au châtiment.
6 Beaucoup briguent la faveur d’un homme important,
et tous sont amis de qui fait des cadeaux.
7 Le pauvre est détesté par tous ses frères,
à plus forte raison ses compagnons s’écartent-ils de lui.
En vain il les poursuit de ses paroles : ils ne sont déjà plus là.
8 Acquérir du bon sens, c’est s’aimer soi-même,
cultiver le discernement fera trouver le bonheur.
9 Le faux témoin ne restera pas impuni,
qui profère le mensonge périra.
10 Il ne convient pas qu’un insensé mène une vie de plaisirs,
et moins encore qu’un esclave commande aux princes.
11 La raison de l’homme lui fait retenir sa colère,
et sa gloire c’est de passer par-dessus l’offense.
12 La colère du roi est pareille au rugissement d’un jeune lion,
mais sa faveur est comme la rosée sur l’herbe.
13 Un fils insensé fait le malheur de son père,
et les récriminations d’une femme sont comme une gouttière qui ne cesse de couler.
14 Un homme peut hériter maison et richesse de ses pères,
mais seul l’Eternel peut lui donner une femme intelligente.
15 La paresse plonge dans la torpeur,
et l’indolent souffrira de la faim.
16 Suivre les préceptes, c’est veiller sur sa propre vie ;
ne pas veiller sur sa conduite, conduit à la mort.
17 Qui a pitié du pauvre, prête à l’Eternel
qui le lui revaudra.
18 Corrige ton fils tant qu’il y a encore[a] de l’espoir,
mais ne va pas jusqu’à désirer sa mort.
19 L’homme qui se met dans une grande colère paiera une amende,
si tu l’en exemptes, tu l’incites à recommencer[b].
20 Ecoute les conseils et accepte d’être repris et, finalement, tu deviendras sage.
21 Un homme forme de nombreux projets,
mais c’est le dessein de l’Eternel qui se réalise.
22 Ce qu’on apprécie chez un homme, c’est sa bonté,
et mieux vaut un pauvre qu’un menteur.
23 Craindre l’Eternel mène à la vie[c],
et, comblé, on passe même la nuit à l’abri du malheur.
24 Le paresseux plonge sa main dans le plat[d],
mais il ne la ramène pas à sa bouche.
25 Punis le moqueur, et celui qui est inexpérimenté acquerra de l’intelligence,
mais reprends simplement l’homme intelligent : il comprendra la leçon.
26 Qui maltraite son père et chasse sa mère
est un fils qui se couvre de honte et d’opprobre.
27 Mon fils, si tu cesses d’écouter l’instruction,
tu te détourneras des paroles de la connaissance.
28 Qui se moque du droit est un témoin qui ne vaut rien ;
la bouche des méchants avale le mal.
29 Les condamnations sont prêtes pour les moqueurs,
et les coups de bâton pour l’échine des insensés.

19 It is better to be poor and ·honest [L walking in innocence]
than to be foolish and ·tell lies [L have crooked lips].
2 ·Enthusiasm [Desire; Zeal; Passion] without knowledge is not good.
·If you act too quickly, you might make a mistake [L Rushing feet make mistakes].
3 People’s own foolishness ·ruins their lives [L frustrates their path],
but in their ·minds [L hearts] they ·blame [rage at] the Lord.
4 Wealthy people are always finding more friends,
but the poor lose all theirs.
5 A witness who lies will not go ·free [unpunished];
liars will never escape.
6 Many people ·want to please [L seek the face of] a leader,
and everyone is friends with those who give gifts.
7 Poor people’s relatives ·avoid [L hate] them;
·even [L how much more do] their friends stay far away.
They run after them, begging,
but they are gone.
8 Those who ·get wisdom [L acquire heart] ·do themselves a favor [L love themselves],
and those who ·love learning [guard understanding] will succeed.
9 A witness who lies will not go ·free [unpunished],
liars will ·die [perish].
10 A fool should not live in luxury.
A slave should not rule over princes [Eccl. 10:5–7].
11 The ·wise [insightful] ·are patient [L hold in their anger];
they will be ·honored [praised; glorified] if they ignore ·insults [offenses].
12 An angry king is like a ·roaring [growling] lion,
but his ·kindness [favor] is like the dew on the grass.
13 A foolish ·child [son] ·brings [is a] disaster to a father,
and a ·quarreling [contentious] wife is like ·dripping water [constant dripping].
14 Houses and wealth are inherited from parents,
but a ·wise [insightful] wife is a gift from the Lord.
15 Lazy people ·sleep a lot [L fall into a deep sleep],
and idle people will go hungry.
16 Those who ·obey [guard] the commands ·protect [guard] themselves,
but those who ·are careless [L despise their way] will die.
17 Being ·kind [gracious; generous] to the poor is like lending to the Lord;
he will ·reward you for what you have done [fully repay you].
18 ·Correct [Discipline] your children while there is still hope;
do not ·let them destroy themselves [or be intent to kill them].
19 People with quick tempers will have to pay for it.
If you ·help them out once [rescue them], you will have to do it again.
20 Listen to advice and accept correction,
and in the ·end [future] you will be wise.
21 People can make all kinds of plans,
but only the Lord’s ·plan [purpose; advice] will ·happen [succeed].
22 People ·want [desire] others to be loyal,
so it is better to be poor than to be a liar.
23 Those who ·respect [fear] the Lord will live
and be satisfied, ·unbothered by trouble [sleep well and not experience harm].
24 Though the lazy person ·puts [L buries] his hand in the dish,
he won’t lift the food to his mouth.
25 ·Whip those who make fun of wisdom [L Hit/Strike a mocker], and perhaps ·foolish [naive; immature; simpleminded] people will gain some ·wisdom [prudence].
Correct those with understanding, and they will gain knowledge.
26 A child who ·robs [devastates] his father and ·sends [drives] away his mother
brings shame and disgrace on himself.
27 Don’t stop listening to correction, my child,
or you will ·forget what you have already learned [L wander from knowledgeable speeches/words].
28 An ·evil [worthless] witness ·makes fun of fairness [mocks justice],
and ·wicked people love what is evil [L the mouth of the wicked conveys guilt].
29 ·People who make fun of wisdom will be punished [L Punishments were made for mockers],
and ·the backs of foolish people will be beaten [L blows for the backs of fools].
