箴言的功用
1 大卫的儿子以色列王所罗门的箴言：
2 要使人晓得智慧和教训，
了解充满哲理的言语；
3 使人领受明慧的教训，
就是公义、公正和正直；
4 使愚蒙人变成精明，
使少年人获得知识和明辨的能力；
5 使智慧人听了，可以增长学问，
使聪明人听了，可以获得智谋；
6 使人明白箴言和譬喻，
懂得智慧人的言词和他们的隐语。
不受恶人的引诱
7 敬畏耶和华是知识的开端，
但愚妄人藐视智慧和教训。
8 我儿，要听从你父亲的教训，
不可离弃你母亲的训诲。
9 因为这些要作你头上的华冠，
作你颈上的金炼。
10 我儿，如果坏人引诱你，
你不可随从他们。
11 如果他们说：“你跟我们来吧！
我们要埋伏流人的血，
我们要无故地潜伏伤害无辜的人；
12 我们要好象阴间一般，把他们活生生吞下，
他们整个被我们吞下，如同下坑的人一样；
13 这样，我们必得着各样贵重的财物，
把掠物装满我们的房子。
14 加入我们的行列吧！
我们大家共用一个钱袋。”
15 我儿，不可和他们走在一起，
禁止你的脚走他们的路；
16 因为他们的脚奔向邪恶，
他们急于流人的血。
17 在飞鸟眼前张设网罗，
是徒劳无功的。
18 他们埋伏，是自流己血；
他们潜伏，是自害己命。
19 凡是贪爱不义之财的，所走的路都是这样；
那不义之财夺去了贪财者的性命。
当听智慧的呼唤
20 智慧在街上呼喊，
在广场上扬声；
21 在闹市中心呼叫，
在城门口发出言语，说：
22 “你们愚蒙人喜爱愚蒙，
好讥笑的人喜欢讥笑，
愚昧人恨恶知识，要到几时呢？
23 你们要因我的责备回转，
我就把我的心意（“心意”或译：“灵”）向你们倾吐，
把我的话指示你们。
24 我呼唤，你们不肯听从；
我伸手，没有人理会。
25 你们既轻忽我的一切劝告，
不肯接受我的责备；
26 所以你们遭难的时候，我就发笑；
惊恐临到你们的日子，我就嗤笑。
27 惊恐临到你们好象风暴，
灾难如同飓风来临，
患难困苦临到你们身上。
28 那时，他们必呼求我，我却不回答；
他们切切寻找我，却寻不见；
29 因为他们恨恶知识，
不选择敬畏耶和华；
30 不接受我的劝告，
轻视我的一切责备；
31 所以，他们必自食其果，
必饱尝自己所设计谋的伤害。
32 愚蒙人的背道必杀害他们自己，
愚昧人的安逸必毁灭他们自己；
33 唯有听从我的，必安然居住，
得享安宁，免受灾祸的惊恐。”

Tema y propósito del libro
1 Los proverbios de Salomón hijo de David, rey de Israel:
2 para conocer sabiduría y disciplina; para comprender los dichos
de inteligencia;
3 para adquirir disciplina y enseñanza, justicia, derecho y equidad;
4 para dar sagacidad a los ingenuos
y a los jóvenes conocimiento
y prudencia.
5 El sabio oirá y aumentará su saber,
y el entendido adquirirá habilidades.
6 Comprenderá los proverbios y los
dichos profundos,
las palabras de los sabios y sus enigmas.
7 El temor del SEÑOR es el principio
del conocimiento;
los insensatos desprecian la sabiduría y la disciplina.
Advertencia contra la codicia
8 Escucha, hijo mío, la disciplina
de tu padre
y no abandones la instrucción
de tu madre;
9 porque diadema de gracia serán
a tu cabeza
y collares a tu cuello.
10 Hijo mío, si los pecadores te quisieran persuadir, no lo consientas.
11 Si te dicen: “Ven con nosotros;
estemos al acecho para derramar sangre
y embosquemos sin motivo a los inocentes;
12 los tragaremos vivos como el Seol, enteros como los que descienden
a la fosa;
13 hallaremos riquezas de toda clase; llenaremos nuestras casas de ganancias;
14 echa tu suerte con nosotros;
tengamos todos una sola bolsa…”.
15 Hijo mío, no andes en el camino de ellos; aparta tu pie de sus senderos,
16 porque sus pies corren al mal
y se apresuran a derramar sangre.
17 Ciertamente en vano se tiende la red ante los ojos de toda ave.
18 Pero ellos ponen acechanzas
a su propia sangre;
a sus propias vidas ponen trampa.
19 Tales son las sendas de todo el que es dado a la codicia,
la cual quita la vida a los que la poseen.
Resultados de rechazar la sabiduría
20 La sabiduría llama en las calles;
da su voz en las plazas.
21 Proclama sobre las murallas[a],
en las entradas de las puertas de la ciudad pronuncia sus dichos:
22 “¿Hasta cuándo, oh ingenuos, amarán la ingenuidad?
¿Hasta cuándo los burladores desearán el burlarse
y los necios aborrecerán
el conocimiento?
23 ¡Vuélvanse ante mi reprensión! ¡He aquí, yo les manifestaré mi espíritu
y les haré saber mis palabras!
24 “Pero, por cuanto llamé y se resistieron; extendí mis manos y no hubo quien escuchara
25 (más bien, desecharon todo consejo mío y no quisieron mi reprensión),
26 yo también me reiré en su calamidad. Me burlaré cuando les llegue lo que temen,
27 cuando llegue como destrucción lo que temen,
cuando su calamidad llegue como
un torbellino
y vengan sobre ustedes tribulación
y angustia.
28 “Entonces me llamarán y no responderé;
me buscarán con diligencia
y no me hallarán,
29 por cuanto aborrecieron
el conocimiento
y no escogieron el temor del SEÑOR.
30 No quisieron mi consejo
y menospreciaron toda reprensión mía.
31 Entonces comerán del fruto de
su camino
y se saciarán de sus propios consejos.
32 Porque su descarrío matará a los ingenuos
y su dejadez echará a perder a los necios.
33 Pero el que me escuche habitará confiadamente
y estará tranquilo, sin temor del mal”.

Purpose and Theme

2 for gaining wisdom and instruction;
for understanding words of insight;
3 for receiving instruction in prudent behavior,
doing what is right and just and fair;
4 for giving prudence to those who are simple,[a](D)
knowledge and discretion(E) to the young—
5 let the wise listen and add to their learning,(F)
and let the discerning get guidance—
6 for understanding proverbs and parables,(G)
the sayings and riddles(H) of the wise.[b](I)
7 The fear of the Lord(J) is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools[c] despise wisdom(K) and instruction.(L)
Prologue: Exhortations to Embrace Wisdom
Warning Against the Invitation of Sinful Men
8 Listen, my son,(M) to your father’s(N) instruction
and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.(O)
9 They are a garland to grace your head
and a chain to adorn your neck.(P)
10 My son, if sinful men entice(Q) you,
do not give in(R) to them.(S)
11 If they say, “Come along with us;
let’s lie in wait(T) for innocent blood,
let’s ambush some harmless soul;
12 let’s swallow(U) them alive, like the grave,
and whole, like those who go down to the pit;(V)
13 we will get all sorts of valuable things
and fill our houses with plunder;
14 cast lots with us;
we will all share the loot(W)”—
15 my son, do not go along with them,
do not set foot(X) on their paths;(Y)
16 for their feet rush into evil,(Z)
they are swift to shed blood.(AA)
17 How useless to spread a net
where every bird can see it!
18 These men lie in wait(AB) for their own blood;
they ambush only themselves!(AC)
19 Such are the paths of all who go after ill-gotten gain;
it takes away the life of those who get it.(AD)
Wisdom’s Rebuke
20 Out in the open wisdom calls aloud,(AE)
she raises her voice in the public square;
21 on top of the wall[d] she cries out,
at the city gate she makes her speech:
22 “How long will you who are simple(AF) love your simple ways?
How long will mockers delight in mockery
and fools hate(AG) knowledge?
23 Repent at my rebuke!
Then I will pour out my thoughts to you,
I will make known to you my teachings.
24 But since you refuse(AH) to listen when I call(AI)
and no one pays attention(AJ) when I stretch out my hand,
25 since you disregard all my advice
and do not accept my rebuke,
26 I in turn will laugh(AK) when disaster(AL) strikes you;
I will mock(AM) when calamity overtakes you(AN)—
27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm,
when disaster(AO) sweeps over you like a whirlwind,
when distress and trouble overwhelm you.
28 “Then they will call to me but I will not answer;(AP)
they will look for me but will not find me,(AQ)
29 since they hated knowledge
and did not choose to fear the Lord.(AR)
30 Since they would not accept my advice
and spurned my rebuke,(AS)
31 they will eat the fruit of their ways
and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.(AT)
32 For the waywardness of the simple will kill them,
and the complacency of fools will destroy them;(AU)
33 but whoever listens to me will live in safety(AV)
and be at ease, without fear of harm.”(AW)

Finalidad de los proverbios
1 Los proverbios de Salomón hijo de David, rey de Israel,
2 para aprender sabiduría y doctrina,
para conocer razones prudentes,
3 para adquirir instrucción y prudencia,
justicia, juicio y equidad;
4 para dar sagacidad a los ingenuos,
y a los jóvenes inteligencia y cordura.
5 El sabio los escucha y aumenta su saber,
y el inteligente adquiere capacidad
6 para entender los proverbios y sentencias,
las palabras de los sabios y sus enigmas.
7 El principio de la sabiduría es el temor de Jehová;
los insensatos desprecian la sabiduría y la enseñanza.
Amonestaciones de la sabiduría
8 «Escucha, hijo mío, la instrucción de tu padre
y no abandones la enseñanza de tu madre,
9 porque adorno de gracia serán en tu cabeza,
y collares en tu cuello.
10 Hijo mío, si los pecadores intentan engañarte,
no lo consientas.
11 Si te dicen: “Ven con nosotros,
pongamos asechanzas para derramar sangre,
acechemos sin motivo al inocente;
12 los tragaremos vivos, como el seol,
y enteros, como los que caen en la fosa;
13 hallaremos toda clase de riquezas,
llenaremos nuestras casas con el botín.
14 Ven, une tu suerte a la nuestra
y hagamos una bolsa común entre todos”,
15 tú, hijo mío, no vayas en el camino con ellos,
sino aparta tu pie de sus veredas,
16 porque sus pies corren hacia el mal,
se apresuran a derramar sangre.
17 En vano es tender una red
ante los ojos del ave,
18 pero ellos a su propia sangre ponen asechanzas,
contra sí mismos tienden la trampa.
19 Así son las sendas de todo el que es dado a la codicia,
la cual quita la vida de sus poseedores.
20 »La sabiduría clama en las calles,
alza su voz en las plazas;
21 Clama en los principales lugares de reunión,
a la entrada de las puertas de la ciudad dice sus razones:
22 “¿Hasta cuándo, ingenuos, amaréis la ingenuidad?
¿Hasta cuándo los burlones desearán burlarse
y los insensatos aborrecerán el conocimiento?
23 ¡Volveos a mi reprensión!,
pues ciertamente yo derramaré mi espíritu sobre vosotros
y os haré saber mis palabras.
24 Yo os llamé, pero no quisisteis escuchar;
tendí mi mano, pero no hubo quien atendiera,
25 sino que desechasteis todos mis consejos
y rechazasteis mi reprensión;
26 por eso, también yo me reiré en vuestra calamidad,
me burlaré cuando os venga lo que teméis,
27 cuando venga como una destrucción lo que teméis
y vuestra calamidad llegue como un torbellino;
cuando sobre vosotros venga tribulación y angustia.
28 »”Entonces me llamarán, pero no responderé;
me buscarán de mañana, pero no me hallarán.
29 Por cuanto aborrecieron la sabiduría
y no escogieron el temor de Jehová,
30 sino que rechazaron mi consejo
y menospreciaron todas mis reprensiones,
31 comerán del fruto de su camino
y se hastiarán de sus propios consejos.
32 Porque el desvío de los ignorantes los matará,
la prosperidad de los necios los echará a perder;
33 pero el que me escuche vivirá confiadamente,
estará tranquilo, sin temor del mal.”
