箴言的价值
1 这是大卫的儿子以色列王所罗门的箴言。
2 为使人认识智慧和教诲，
领悟真知灼见；
3 为使人接受劝诫，
为人处事仁义、公平、正直；
4 使愚昧人明智，
使青年有知识和明辨力；
5 使智者听了长学问，
明哲听了得指引；
6 使人领悟箴言和比喻，
明白智者的话和谜语。
7 知识始于敬畏耶和华，
愚人轻视智慧和教诲。
8 孩子啊，
你要听从父亲的教诲，
不可背弃母亲的训言。
9 因为这要作你头上的华冠，
颈上的项链。
10 孩子啊，恶人若引诱你，
千万不要听从。
11 他们若说：“跟我们来吧，
我们去埋伏杀人，
暗害无辜者取乐；
12 我们要像阴间一样生吞他们，
整个吞没他们，
使他们如坠入坟墓的人；
13 我们必得到各样宝物，
把战利品装满我们的房屋。
14 跟我们一起干吧，
大家有福同享！”
15 孩子啊，
不要走他们的道，
切莫行他们的路。
16 因为他们奔向罪恶，
急速地去杀人流血。
17 在飞鸟眼前设网罗，徒劳无功。
18 他们埋伏，却自流己血；
他们伏击，却自害己命。
19 这就是贪爱不义之财者的结局，
不义之财终要夺去他们的性命。
智慧的劝诫
20 智慧在大街上高喊，
在广场上扬声，
21 在热闹的市集宣告，
在城门口演说：
22 “你们愚昧人喜爱愚昧，
嘲讽者以嘲弄为乐，
无知者厌恶知识，
要到什么时候呢？
23 你们若因我的责备而回转，
我就向你们显明我的旨意[a]，
叫你们明白我的话语。
24 我呼唤你们，
你们却充耳不闻；
我向你们招手，
你们却视若无睹。
25 你们漠视我的劝诫，
不接受我的责备。
26 因此，
你们遭遇灾难时，
我必发笑；
惊恐临到你们时，
我必嗤笑——
27 那时，恐惧如风暴袭击你们，
灾难如旋风临到你们，
忧愁和苦难吞没你们。
28 你们呼求我，
我也不回答；
你们恳切地寻找我，
却找不到。
29 因为你们厌恶知识，
不愿意敬畏耶和华，
30 不接受我的劝诫，
又藐视我的责备。
31 所以，你们必自食其果，
因自己的恶谋而吃尽苦头。
32 愚昧人背离正道，
自招灭亡；
愚顽人逍遥自在，
毁掉自己。
33 然而，那听从我的必安然居住，
得享安宁，
不怕灾祸。”

Motivo de los proverbios
1 Los proverbios de Salomón,(A) hijo de David, rey de Israel.
2 Para entender sabiduría y doctrina,
Para conocer razones prudentes,
3 Para recibir el consejo de prudencia,
Justicia, juicio y equidad;
4 Para dar sagacidad a los simples,
Y a los jóvenes inteligencia y cordura.
5 Oirá el sabio, y aumentará el saber,
Y el entendido adquirirá consejo,
6 Para entender proverbio y declaración,
Palabras de sabios, y sus dichos profundos.
7 El principio de la sabiduría es el temor de Jehová;(B)
Los insensatos desprecian la sabiduría y la enseñanza.
Amonestaciones de la Sabiduría
8 Oye, hijo mío, la instrucción de tu padre,
Y no desprecies la dirección de tu madre;
9 Porque adorno de gracia serán a tu cabeza,
Y collares a tu cuello.
10 Hijo mío, si los pecadores te quisieren engañar,
No consientas.
11 Si dijeren: Ven con nosotros;
Pongamos asechanzas para derramar sangre,
Acechemos sin motivo al inocente;
12 Los tragaremos vivos como el Seol,
Y enteros, como los que caen en un abismo;
13 Hallaremos riquezas de toda clase,
Llenaremos nuestras casas de despojos;
14 Echa tu suerte entre nosotros;
Tengamos todos una bolsa.
15 Hijo mío, no andes en camino con ellos.
Aparta tu pie de sus veredas,
16 Porque sus pies corren hacia el mal,
Y van presurosos a derramar sangre.
17 Porque en vano se tenderá la red
Ante los ojos de toda ave;
18 Pero ellos a su propia sangre ponen asechanzas,
Y a sus almas tienden lazo.
19 Tales son las sendas de todo el que es dado a la codicia,
La cual quita la vida de sus poseedores.
20 La sabiduría clama en las calles,
Alza su voz en las plazas;
21 Clama en los principales lugares de reunión;
En las entradas de las puertas de la ciudad dice sus razones.(C)
22 ¿Hasta cuándo, oh simples, amaréis la simpleza,
Y los burladores desearán el burlar,
Y los insensatos aborrecerán la ciencia?
23 Volveos a mi reprensión;
He aquí yo derramaré mi espíritu sobre vosotros,
Y os haré saber mis palabras.
24 Por cuanto llamé, y no quisisteis oír,
Extendí mi mano, y no hubo quien atendiese,
25 Sino que desechasteis todo consejo mío
Y mi reprensión no quisisteis,
26 También yo me reiré en vuestra calamidad,
Y me burlaré cuando os viniere lo que teméis;
27 Cuando viniere como una destrucción lo que teméis,
Y vuestra calamidad llegare como un torbellino;
Cuando sobre vosotros viniere tribulación y angustia.
28 Entonces me llamarán, y no responderé;
Me buscarán de mañana, y no me hallarán.
29 Por cuanto aborrecieron la sabiduría,
Y no escogieron el temor de Jehová,
30 Ni quisieron mi consejo,
Y menospreciaron toda reprensión mía,
31 Comerán del fruto de su camino,
Y serán hastiados de sus propios consejos.
32 Porque el desvío de los ignorantes los matará,
Y la prosperidad de los necios los echará a perder;
33 Mas el que me oyere, habitará confiadamente
Y vivirá tranquilo, sin temor del mal.

Valor de los proverbios
1 Dichos de Salomón, hijo de David, rey de Israel, 2 que tienen como propósito:
comunicar sabiduría e instrucción,
ayudar a comprender palabras llenas de sentido,
3 adquirir instrucción, prudencia,
justicia, rectitud y equilibrio;
4 hacer sagaces a los jóvenes inexpertos,
y darles conocimiento y reflexión.
5 El que es sabio e inteligente, los escucha,
y adquiere así más sabiduría y experiencia
6 para entender los dichos de los sabios,
y sus palabras, ejemplos y adivinanzas.
7 La sabiduría comienza por honrar al Señor;
los necios desprecian la sabiduría y la instrucción.
Consejos a los jóvenes
8 Hijo mío, atiende la instrucción de tu padre
y no abandones la enseñanza de tu madre,
9 pues serán para ti un bello adorno:
como un collar o una corona.
10 Si los pecadores quieren engañarte,
¡no se lo permitas, hijo mío!
11 Tal vez te digan: «Ven con nosotros;
por capricho tenderemos una trampa
para matar a algún inocente cuando pase.
12 Nos tragaremos vivos a los hombres honrados
como se traga la muerte a quienes caen en el sepulcro.
13 Tendremos toda clase de riquezas,
¡llenaremos nuestras casas con todo lo robado!
14 Ven y comparte tu suerte con nosotros,
y comparte también nuestro fondo común.»
15 ¡Pero no vayas con ellos, hijo mío!
Aléjate de sus malos caminos,
16 pues tienen prisa por hacer lo malo;
¡tienen prisa por derramar sangre!
17 Aunque no vale la pena tender una trampa
si los pájaros pueden verla,
18 esos hombres se tienden la trampa a sí mismos
y ponen su vida en peligro.
19 Tal es el final de los ambiciosos:
su propia ambición los mata.
Invitación de la sabiduría
20 Por calles y avenidas
la sabiduría hace oír su voz;
21 proclama sus palabras por las puertas,
por los puntos más concurridos de la ciudad:
22 «Jóvenes inexpertos, burlones y necios,
¿hasta cuándo amarán la inexperiencia,
y hallarán placer en sus burlas,
y despreciarán el saber?
23 Presten atención a mis correcciones
y yo los colmaré de mi espíritu;
les daré a conocer mis pensamientos.
24 Yo los he llamado, los he invitado a venir,
pero ustedes no han querido hacerme caso.
25 Al contrario, han rechazado mis consejos;
no han querido recibir mi corrección.
26 ¡Ya me tocará reír cuando les llegue la desgracia!
¡Ya me burlaré cuando estén muertos de miedo,
27 cuando vengan sobre ustedes temores y problemas,
desesperación y angustia,
como un torbellino que todo lo destruye!
28 »Ese día me llamarán, pero no responderé;
me buscarán, pero no me encontrarán;
29 pues desprecian la sabiduría
y no quieren honrar al Señor.
30 No desean recibir mis consejos;
desprecian mis correcciones.
31 ¡Pues sufrirán las consecuencias de su conducta!
¡Quedarán hartos de sus malas intenciones!
32 A los inexpertos los mata su falta de experiencia,
y a los necios los destruye su despreocupación;
33 pero el que me preste atención, vivirá en paz

Purpose and Theme
1 The proverbs(A) of Solomon(B) son of David, king of Israel:(C)
2 for gaining wisdom and instruction;
for understanding words of insight;
3 for receiving instruction in prudent behavior,
doing what is right and just and fair;
4 for giving prudence to those who are simple,[a](D)
knowledge and discretion(E) to the young—
5 let the wise listen and add to their learning,(F)
and let the discerning get guidance—
6 for understanding proverbs and parables,(G)
the sayings and riddles(H) of the wise.[b](I)
7 The fear of the Lord(J) is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools[c] despise wisdom(K) and instruction.(L)
Prologue: Exhortations to Embrace Wisdom
Warning Against the Invitation of Sinful Men
8 Listen, my son,(M) to your father’s(N) instruction
and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.(O)
9 They are a garland to grace your head
and a chain to adorn your neck.(P)
10 My son, if sinful men entice(Q) you,
do not give in(R) to them.(S)
11 If they say, “Come along with us;
let’s lie in wait(T) for innocent blood,
let’s ambush some harmless soul;
12 let’s swallow(U) them alive, like the grave,
and whole, like those who go down to the pit;(V)
13 we will get all sorts of valuable things
and fill our houses with plunder;
14 cast lots with us;
we will all share the loot(W)”—
15 my son, do not go along with them,
do not set foot(X) on their paths;(Y)
16 for their feet rush into evil,(Z)
they are swift to shed blood.(AA)
17 How useless to spread a net
where every bird can see it!
18 These men lie in wait(AB) for their own blood;
they ambush only themselves!(AC)
19 Such are the paths of all who go after ill-gotten gain;
it takes away the life of those who get it.(AD)
Wisdom’s Rebuke
20 Out in the open wisdom calls aloud,(AE)
she raises her voice in the public square;
21 on top of the wall[d] she cries out,
at the city gate she makes her speech:
22 “How long will you who are simple(AF) love your simple ways?
How long will mockers delight in mockery
and fools hate(AG) knowledge?
23 Repent at my rebuke!
Then I will pour out my thoughts to you,
I will make known to you my teachings.
24 But since you refuse(AH) to listen when I call(AI)
and no one pays attention(AJ) when I stretch out my hand,
25 since you disregard all my advice
and do not accept my rebuke,
26 I in turn will laugh(AK) when disaster(AL) strikes you;
I will mock(AM) when calamity overtakes you(AN)—
27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm,
when disaster(AO) sweeps over you like a whirlwind,
when distress and trouble overwhelm you.
28 “Then they will call to me but I will not answer;(AP)
they will look for me but will not find me,(AQ)
29 since they hated knowledge
and did not choose to fear the Lord.(AR)
30 Since they would not accept my advice
and spurned my rebuke,(AS)
31 they will eat the fruit of their ways
and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.(AT)
32 For the waywardness of the simple will kill them,
and the complacency of fools will destroy them;(AU)
33 but whoever listens to me will live in safety(AV)
and be at ease, without fear of harm.”(AW)

The Voice
1 I, Solomon, David’s son and Israel’s king, pass on to you these proverbs—a treasury of wisdom—
2 So that you would recognize wisdom and value discipline;
that you would understand insightful teaching
3 And receive wise guidance to live a disciplined life;
that you would seek justice and have the ability to choose what is right and fair.
4 These proverbs teach the naive how to become clever;
they instruct the young in how to grow in knowledge and live with discretion.
5 The wise will pay attention to these words and will grow in learning,
and the discerning will receive divine guidance,
6 And they will be able to interpret the meaning of a proverb and a puzzle,
the twists and turns in the words of the wise and their riddles.
A strategic translation decision has been made to respect the historical situation of this book. In its original context, Proverbs is practical wisdom passed down from parents (especially fathers, see chapters 1–9) to young men who are preparing to enter a life of adult responsibilities: family, business, community leadership, and so on. Because of this relational aspect, we have retained masculine references when appropriate and have used more inclusive language when that was the intention of the original author. It is our greatest hope that God will use this work to remind fathers of the profound place they have in nurturing, instructing, and guiding the next generation.
7 Let us begin. The worship of the Eternal One, the one True God, is the first step toward knowledge.
Fools, however, do not fear God and cannot stand wisdom or guidance.
8 So, my son, pay attention to your father’s guidance,
and do not ignore what your mother taught you—
9 Wear their wisdom as a badge of honor and maturity,
as fine jewelry around your neck.
10 My son, should your less honorable peers pressure you to do what is wrong,
you should be strong enough not to go along.
11 If they should say,
Evildoers: Come on! Everyone, hide and let’s wait to see whom we can beat to a pulp.
We’re going to jump some unsuspecting chumps for no reason at all.
12 We’ll have our way with them, and when we’re through, there will be nothing left,
as if their bodies were swallowed whole by the grave’s dark pit.
13 We’ll take whatever we want—all their wealth and their fancy clothes—
and when we’re through, we’ll have piles of their treasure for our own.
14 You have to join us; forget about God.
We’re going to rake in the goods, and we’ll share all we take!
15 My son, do not join them;
keep well away from their violent, destructive paths.
16 For they run right away, every time, to do wrong,
and they are thirsty for blood.
17 You see, it makes no sense to bait the net and set the trap
while the bird is watching,
18 But these hiding in the shadows and waiting to spill innocent blood
are really just hastening their own destruction!
By giving in to their sinful desires,
they set themselves up to be ambushed.
19 This is what happens to everyone who tries to profit by violence;
violence will eventually rob them of their very lives.
Each generation faces strong peer pressure to follow the world’s ways, especially during adolescence. That pressure can twist an innocent young man inside out until he is nearly unrecognizable to those close to him. Once gang mentality takes over, that young man could easily find himself in unexpected and troublesome situations. Wisdom calls, and her voice is clear: Remember your parents’ instruction. Avoid violence and violent people. If you don’t, violence will find you.
20 There’s another voice in town.
It belongs to Lady Wisdom, who calls out in the street.
She cries out in the town square,
21 At the city gates, in the noisy city streets,
you can hear her speaking over the racket.
22 Lady Wisdom: You simple, naive people, how long will you love your feeble ways?
You simpletons, how long will you enjoy making fun of what you don’t understand?
You fools, how long will you hate learning what truly matters?
23 Turn to me and receive my gentle correction;
Watch and I will pour out my spirit on you;
I will share with you my wise words in order to redirect your lives.
24 You hear, but you have refused to answer my call.
My hands reached out, but no one noticed.
25 All my advice, all my correction, all have been neglected—
you wanted nothing of them.
26 So I will be the laughter you hear when misfortune comes, and it will come.
I will be the mocking sound when panic grips you—
27 When panic comes like a stormy blast,
when misfortune sweeps in like a whirlwind,
when sorrow and anguish weigh you down.
28 This is when they will call on me, but I will not respond;
they will be frantic to find me, but they won’t be able.
29 Because they despised knowledge of my ways,
and they also refused to respect and honor the Eternal,
30 Because they rejected my advice
and turned down my correction,
31 They will surely get what’s coming to them:
they’ll be forced to eat the fruit of their wicked ways;
they’ll gorge themselves on the consequences of their choices.
32 You see, it’s turning away from me that brings death to the simple,
and it’s self-satisfaction that destroys the fools.
33 But those who listen to me now will live under divine protection;
they can rest knowing they are out of harm’s way.
