16 人は計画を立てますが、
その結果は主の手の中にあります。
2 人はいつも自分が正しいと思います。
しかし、主もそう思っているでしょうか。
3 自分でしようとしていることを主にゆだねなさい。
そうすればうまくいきます。
4 主はすべてのものを目的をもって造りました。
悪者でさえ、罰するために造られたのです。
5 主は高慢な人をきらいます。
そういう人は必ず罰せられます。
6 思いやりと真心があれば罪は除かれ、
主を恐れる気持ちがあれば悪に手を染めません。
7 主を喜ばせようとすれば、
その人の最大の敵も、主が味方に変えてくれます。
8 人をだまして大もうけするより、
わずかずつでも正直にかせぐほうがましです。
9 人は心に計画を立てます。
しかし、それを確かなものにするのは神です。
10 神は、王が正しく裁けるように助けるので、
王は間違ったことを言ってはいけません。
11 正直に商売すること、
それが主の決めた鉄則です。
12 王が悪を行うのは恐ろしいことです。
正しく治めてこそ、その地位は長続きするのです。
13 国民が正しく生きることは
王の喜びです。
14 王を怒らせるのは死刑を宣告されたようなもので、
知恵のある人は王の怒りをうまくなだめます。
15 王を喜ばせる者は目をかけられます。
16 知恵は金にまさり、
すぐれた理解力は銀にまさります。
17 神を恐れる人は悪を行いません。
その道を歩む者は安全です。
18 プライドが高すぎると身を滅ぼし、
高慢は失敗を招きます。
19 金持ちで高慢な人より、
貧しくても謙遜な人のほうが幸せです。
20 神のみことばを聞く人は祝福されます。
主に信頼する人は幸せです。
21 知恵のある人は聡明な人と呼ばれ、
人に好かれる最高の教師です。
22 知恵のある人は生きる喜びにあふれ、
愚か者は愚かさのために苦しみます。
23 知恵のある人のことばは的確で
説得力があります。
24 親切なことばははちみつのように甘く、
人々を元気づけます。
25 広くて歩きやすい道は正しい道に見えます。
しかし、その終点は死です。
26 食べるために働く気を起こさせるなら、
ひもじさも役に立ちます。
27 怠け者の手は悪魔の手、
その口は悪魔の口です。
28 悪人は争いを起こし、
陰口を言う者は親友が離れていきます。
29 悪者は仲間を作るのが大好きで、
人を罪に誘い込みます。
30 悪者は心の中で悪いことを企み、
口をすぼめてうかがっています。
31 白髪は光栄の冠、
神に従う人の中に多く見いだされます。
32 英雄よりも温和な者のほうがすぐれ、
軍隊を動かす指揮官よりも
自分を制する者のほうに力があります。
33 人はくじを引きますが、
その結果を決めるのは主です。
17 ごちそうがありながら毎日争いごとがある家より、
たった一切れのパンを
仲良く食べる家のほうが幸せです。
2 賢い使用人は、主人の恥知らずの息子を監督し、
財産の分け前をもらいます。
3 銀や金は火で精錬しますが、
人の心をきよめるのは主です。
4 悪人は悪人同士でつき合い、
うそつきはうそつき同士でつき合います。
5 貧しい人をさげすむのは、
その人を造った神をさげすむのと同じです。
神は人の不幸を喜ぶ者を罰します。
6 孫は老人の無上の栄誉、
子どもの栄誉は彼らの父です。
7 神に背く者が真実を言ったり、
王がうそをついたりすることはめったにありません。
8 わいろには魔力があり、
だれが使っても効果があります。
9 愛のある人は人の誤りを水に流し、
いつまでもこだわる者は親友までも失います。
10 理解力ある人は一度しかれば十分です。
それは、聞き分けのない者の背を
百ぺんむち打つよりも効き目があります。
11 悪者は何でも逆らって生きるので、
きびしい罰を受けます。
12 愚かなことにふける愚か者に会うより、
子を奪われた雌熊に会うほうがよほど安全です。
13 よくしてもらいながら、
その好意を裏切る者はのろわれます。
14 いったん火のついた争いごとは、
なかなか収まりません。
だから、初めから争いはしないことです。
15 間違いを正しいと言い、
正しいことを間違いだと言う者は、主に憎まれます。
16 真理を学ぶ気がなければ、
いくら授業料を払っても意味がありません。
17 真の友は決して裏切りません。
兄弟は苦しみに会ったときに
助け合うためにいるのです。
18 思慮の足りない者は気安く保証人になり、
その人の借金の責任を負います。
19 罪人は争いが大好きで、
高ぶる者は問題を探し求めます。
20 悪人はだれにでも疑いの目を向け、
いつも災いに陥ります。
21 反抗する者の父親には、
生きる楽しみがありません。
22 心が陽気になれば体も健康になり、
気がふさげば病気になります。
23 買収されて正義を曲げるのはよくありません。
24 分別のある人は知恵から目を離さず、
愚か者は遠くをぼんやり眺めています。
25 反抗的な子は親泣かせです。
26 正しい人を正しさゆえに罰金を科し、
高潔な人を正直さゆえに罰するのは、
なんと愚かなことでしょう。
27-28 賢い人は無口で、すぐに怒ったりしません。
だから、愚かな人も黙っていれば賢く見え、
くちびるを閉じていれば得をします。
18 自分のことしか考えない者は、
あらゆる規則に盾をつき、
自分のやり方を押し通します。
2 神に背く者はただ大声で叫びたいだけで、
事実はどうでもよいのです。
3 悪いことをすれば必ず恥をかきます。
4 知恵のある人は、
深い流れのように味わいのあることを言います。
5 裁判官が悪者をかばい、
無実の者を罰するのはよくありません。
6-7 愚か者はすぐにけんかをします。
愚か者の口は破滅のもとで、
いつも危ない橋を渡ります。
8 陰口はよだれの出そうなごちそうのように、
大いに食欲をそそります。
9 怠け者は破壊する者の兄弟です。
10 主は絶対安全なとりで、
正しい人はその中に逃げ込みます。
11 金持ちは浅はかにも、
「富がすべて。富さえあれば絶対安全だ」と思っています。
12 高慢になると身を滅ぼし、
謙遜になると人から称賛されます。
13 よく聞かないで早合点すると、恥をかきます。
14 心がしっかりしていれば病気にも負けません。
しかし、心が失せたら望みはありません。
15 知識のある人はいつも、
新しいことを知ろうと努力します。
16 贈り物には不思議な力があります。
地位ある人の前に彼を導きます。
17 だれの話でも、他の人が裏を明かして、
全貌がわかるまではもっともらしく思えます。
18 いくら言い争っても解決しないときは、
くじで決めなさい。
そうすれば丸く収まります。
19 堅固な城を攻め落とすより、
けんかした友人と仲直りするほうが大変です。
怒った相手は、頑としてあなたを受けつけません。
20 忠告するのが上手な人は、
ごちそうをたらふく食べたときのような
満足感をいつも味わいます。
21 おしゃべり好きは、
おしゃべりの後始末をさせられます。
うっかり間違ったことを言って
死ぬ場合もあるのです。
22 良い妻を見つける人は幸せ者です。
良い妻は神からのすばらしい贈り物です。
23 貧しい人は拝むようにして頼み、
金持ちは相手を軽蔑しきって答えます。
24 友人のふりをする「友人」もいれば、
実の兄弟より親しい友人もいます。

16 To humans belong the plans of the heart,
but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue.(A)
3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do,
and he will establish your plans.(E)
6 Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for;
through the fear of the Lord(J) evil is avoided.(K)
7 When the Lord takes pleasure in anyone’s way,
he causes their enemies to make peace(L) with them.(M)
9 In their hearts humans plan their course,
but the Lord establishes their steps.(P)
10 The lips of a king speak as an oracle,
and his mouth does not betray justice.(Q)
11 Honest scales and balances belong to the Lord;
all the weights in the bag are of his making.(R)
12 Kings detest wrongdoing,
for a throne is established through righteousness.(S)
13 Kings take pleasure in honest lips;
they value the one who speaks what is right.(T)
17 The highway of the upright avoids evil;
those who guard their ways preserve their lives.(AA)
19 Better to be lowly in spirit along with the oppressed
than to share plunder with the proud.
20 Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers,[a](AE)
and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord.(AF)
22 Prudence is a fountain of life to the prudent,(AH)
but folly brings punishment to fools.
26 The appetite of laborers works for them;
their hunger drives them on.
29 A violent person entices their neighbor
and leads them down a path that is not good.(AS)
30 Whoever winks(AT) with their eye is plotting perversity;
whoever purses their lips is bent on evil.
31 Gray hair is a crown of splendor;(AU)
it is attained in the way of righteousness.
32 Better a patient person than a warrior,
one with self-control than one who takes a city.
17 Better a dry crust with peace and quiet
than a house full of feasting, with strife.(AY)
2 A prudent servant will rule over a disgraceful son
and will share the inheritance as one of the family.
4 A wicked person listens to deceitful lips;
a liar pays attention to a destructive tongue.
5 Whoever mocks the poor(BB) shows contempt for their Maker;(BC)
whoever gloats over disaster(BD) will not go unpunished.(BE)
6 Children’s children(BF) are a crown to the aged,
and parents are the pride of their children.
7 Eloquent lips are unsuited to a godless fool—
how much worse lying lips to a ruler!(BG)
8 A bribe is seen as a charm by the one who gives it;
they think success will come at every turn.(BH)
9 Whoever would foster love covers over an offense,(BI)
but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.(BJ)
10 A rebuke impresses a discerning person
more than a hundred lashes a fool.
11 Evildoers foster rebellion against God;
the messenger of death will be sent against them.
12 Better to meet a bear robbed of her cubs
than a fool bent on folly.(BK)
14 Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam;
so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.(BN)
16 Why should fools have money in hand to buy wisdom,
when they are not able to understand it?(BQ)
17 A friend loves at all times,
and a brother is born for a time of adversity.(BR)
18 One who has no sense shakes hands in pledge
and puts up security for a neighbor.(BS)
19 Whoever loves a quarrel loves sin;
whoever builds a high gate invites destruction.
20 One whose heart is corrupt does not prosper;
one whose tongue is perverse falls into trouble.
21 To have a fool for a child brings grief;
there is no joy for the parent of a godless fool.(BT)
24 A discerning person keeps wisdom in view,
but a fool’s eyes(BY) wander to the ends of the earth.
25 A foolish son brings grief to his father
and bitterness to the mother who bore him.(BZ)
26 If imposing a fine on the innocent is not good,(CA)
surely to flog honest officials is not right.
27 The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint,(CB)
and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.(CC)
28 Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent,
and discerning if they hold their tongues.(CD)
18 An unfriendly person pursues selfish ends
and against all sound judgment starts quarrels.
2 Fools find no pleasure in understanding
but delight in airing their own opinions.(CE)
3 When wickedness comes, so does contempt,
and with shame comes reproach.
4 The words of the mouth are deep waters,(CF)
but the fountain of wisdom is a rushing stream.
6 The lips of fools bring them strife,
and their mouths invite a beating.(CI)
8 The words of a gossip are like choice morsels;
they go down to the inmost parts.(CL)
9 One who is slack in his work
is brother to one who destroys.(CM)
11 The wealth of the rich is their fortified city;(CP)
they imagine it a wall too high to scale.
12 Before a downfall the heart is haughty,
but humility comes before honor.(CQ)
13 To answer before listening—
that is folly and shame.(CR)
14 The human spirit can endure in sickness,
but a crushed spirit who can bear?(CS)
15 The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge,(CT)
for the ears of the wise seek it out.
16 A gift(CU) opens the way
and ushers the giver into the presence of the great.
17 In a lawsuit the first to speak seems right,
until someone comes forward and cross-examines.
18 Casting the lot settles disputes(CV)
and keeps strong opponents apart.
19 A brother wronged(CW) is more unyielding than a fortified city;
disputes are like the barred gates of a citadel.
20 From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled;
with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied.(CX)
23 The poor plead for mercy,
but the rich answer harshly.
24 One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.(DC)

12 愛する皆さん。そういうわけですから、あなたがたにお願いします。あなたがたの体を、神に喜んでいただける、生きた、きよい供え物としてささげてください。それが神への礼拝となるのです。 2 この世の人々の生活や考え方をまねてはいけません。むしろ、神に喜ばれることは何かを思いながら、なすこと考えることすべての面で生き生きとした、全く新しい人となりなさい。
3 私は使徒として、あなたがた一人一人に警告します。自分を過大に評価してはいけません。神から与えられている信仰に応じて、慎み深くありなさい。 4-5 人の体には多くの器官があるのと同じように、キリストの体である教会にも、多くの器官があります。私たちはみな、キリストの体の各器官です。その体が形造られるには、私たちが必要です。というのは、それぞれが異なった役割を果たすからです。ですから、私たちは互いに依存し合っており、だれもがほかのすべての人を必要としているのです。 6 神は一人一人に、何かすぐれた賜物を授けてくださっています。ですから、預言する（神に託されたことばを語る）賜物を授かっているなら、預言しなさい。 7 他の人々に仕える賜物を授かっているなら、快く仕えなさい。教える立場にあるなら、よく教えなさい。 8 説教をする人であれば、人の助けとなるように説教しなさい。多くのものを与えられているなら、惜しみなく分け与えなさい。管理者としての賜物を与えられ、人々を監督する立場にあるなら、その責任を誠実に果たしなさい。悲しんでいる者を慰める賜物のある人は、喜んでそうしなさい。
9 見せかけだけで人を愛してはいけません。真心から愛しなさい。悪いことを憎み、良いことには賛成しなさい。 10 兄弟のような愛情で互いに愛し合い、また、心から尊敬し合いなさい。 11 決して仕事を怠けず、熱心に主に仕えなさい。 12 あなたがたのために神が計画しておられることすべてを喜びなさい。困難に耐え、常に祈りなさい。 13 仲間が困っている時には、助けてあげなさい。客を家に招いてもてなし、宿が必要なら泊めてあげるようにしなさい。 14 迫害されても、のろってはいけません。むしろ、神がその人を祝福してくださるように祈ってあげなさい。 15 だれかが幸せで喜んでいる時には、いっしょに喜んであげなさい。悲しんでいる人がいたら、いっしょに悲しんであげなさい。 16 互いに心を一つにし、楽しく働きなさい。高ぶってはいけません。偉い人に取り入ろうとせず、かえって、身分の低い人々と喜んで交際しなさい。何でも知っているなどと思い上がってはいけません。
17 悪いことをされても、決して仕返しをしてはいけません。だれが見ても、あなたがたの正直さを認めるように行動しなさい。 18 だれとも争ってはいけません。できる限り、あらゆる人と仲よくしなさい。 19 愛する皆さん。決して自分で復讐してはいけません。復讐は神に任せなさい。なぜなら、神が、「当然報復を受けなければならない人には、わたしが報復する」（申命32・35）と言っておられるからです。 20 むしろ、あなたの敵が飢えていたら、食べさせてやりなさい。のどが渇いていたら、飲ませてやりなさい。そうすることによって、あなたは、「敵の頭上に燃えさかる炭火を積む」（箴言25・22）ことになります。つまり彼は、あなたにしてきたことを思って、恥じ入るようになるのです。 21 悪に負けてはいけません。かえって、善を行うことによって悪に打ち勝ちなさい。

A Living Sacrifice
12 Therefore, I urge you,(A) brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice,(B) holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform(C) to the pattern of this world,(D) but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.(E) Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is(F)—his good, pleasing(G) and perfect will.
Humble Service in the Body of Christ
3 For by the grace given me(H) I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. 4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function,(I) 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body,(J) and each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have different gifts,(K) according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying,(L) then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith;(M) 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach;(N) 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement;(O) if it is giving, then give generously;(P) if it is to lead,[b] do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
Love in Action
9 Love must be sincere.(Q) Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.(R) 10 Be devoted to one another in love.(S) Honor one another above yourselves.(T) 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor,(U) serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope,(V) patient in affliction,(W) faithful in prayer.(X) 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need.(Y) Practice hospitality.(Z)
14 Bless those who persecute you;(AA) bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.(AB) 16 Live in harmony with one another.(AC) Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.[c] Do not be conceited.(AD)
17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil.(AE) Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.(AF) 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.(AG) 19 Do not take revenge,(AH) my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”[d](AI) says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”[e](AJ)
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
