⁷如果死者的兄弟不愿娶那寡妇，她要到城门口见长老们，告诉他们，‘我丈夫的兄弟不肯尽兄弟的责任娶我，不肯为我丈夫留后。’ ⁸长老们要把死者的兄弟召来，与他商谈。如果他执意不肯， ⁹那寡妇要当着众长老的面，上前脱下他的鞋，吐唾沫在他脸上，说，‘这就是不肯为兄弟留后之人的下场。’

King James Version

⁷And if the man like not to take his brother's wife, then let his brother's wife go up to the gate unto the elders, and say, My husband's brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform the duty of my husband's brother.

⁸Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak unto him: and if he stand to it, and say, I like not to take her;

⁹Then shall his brother's wife come unto him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face, and shall answer and say, So shall it be done unto that man that will not build up his brother's house.

⁷However, if a man does not want to marry his brother’s wife,^(A) she shall go to the elders at the town gate^(B) and say, “My husband’s brother refuses to carry on his brother’s name in Israel. He will not fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to me.”^(C) ⁸Then the elders of his town shall summon him and talk to him. If he persists in saying, “I do not want to marry her,” ⁹his brother’s widow shall go up to him in the presence of the elders, take off one of his sandals,^(D) spit in his face^(E) and say, “This is what is done to the man who will not build up his brother’s family line.”
