主严惩恶人
4 万军之耶和华说：“那日临近，势如烧着的火炉，凡狂傲的和行恶的必如碎秸，在那日必被烧尽，根本、枝条一无存留。 2 但向你们敬畏我名的人，必有公义的日头出现，其光线[a]有医治之能。你们必出来，跳跃如圈里的肥犊。 3 你们必践踏恶人，在我所定的日子，他们必如灰尘在你们脚掌之下。这是万军之耶和华说的。
劝众遵律守诫
4 “你们当记念我仆人摩西的律法，就是我在何烈山为以色列众人所吩咐他的律例、典章。
预言以利亚奉遣而至
5 “看哪，耶和华大而可畏之日未到以前，我必差遣先知以利亚到你们那里去。 6 他必使父亲的心转向儿女，儿女的心转向父亲，免得我来咒诅遍地。”

4 Car voici, le jour vient, Ardent comme une fournaise. Tous les hautains et tous les méchants seront comme du chaume; Le jour qui vient les embrasera, Dit l'Éternel des armées, Il ne leur laissera ni racine ni rameau.
2 Mais pour vous qui craignez mon nom, se lèvera Le soleil de la justice, Et la guérison sera sous ses ailes; Vous sortirez, et vous sauterez comme les veaux d'une étable,
3 Et vous foulerez les méchants, Car ils seront comme de la cendre Sous la plante de vos pieds, Au jour que je prépare, Dit l'Éternel des armées.
4 Souvenez-vous de la loi de Moïse, mon serviteur, Auquel j'ai prescrit en Horeb, pour tout Israël, Des préceptes et des ordonnances.
5 Voici, je vous enverrai Élie, le prophète, Avant que le jour de l'Éternel arrive, Ce jour grand et redoutable.
6 Il ramènera le coeur des pères à leurs enfants, Et le coeur des enfants à leurs pères, De peur que je ne vienne frapper le pays d'interdit.

4 Look! The day is coming, burning like a blast furnace.[a] All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble. The day that is coming will set them on fire, says the Lord of Armies, a day that will not leave behind a root or branch for them. 2 But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness[b] will rise, and there will be healing in its wings. You will go out and jump around like calves from the stall. 3 You will trample the wicked. They will surely be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day when I take action, says the Lord of Armies.
4 Remember the law of my servant Moses, which I commanded to him at Horeb to serve as statutes and judgments over all Israel.
5 Look! I am going to send Elijah the prophet to you before the great and fearful day of the Lord comes![c] 6 He will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers. Otherwise, I will come and strike the land with complete destruction.

- Malachi 4:2 Or the Sun of Righteousness will rise, and there will be healing in his wings. The question here is whether the words sun of righteousness are a title for the Messiah or a picture of the blessings of the Messianic era.
- Malachi 4:5 This is fulfilled by John the Baptist (Matthew 11:7-14 and Luke 1:17).
