2 祭司们啊，这诫命是传给你们的。 2 万军之耶和华说：“如果你们不听从我的话，也不从内心尊崇我的名，我必使咒诅临到你们，把你们的福气变成咒诅。事实上，因为你们不把我的诫命放在心上，我已经咒诅了你们。 3 我必斥责你们的子孙，把你们祭牲的粪便抹在你们脸上，又把你们和粪便一同丢掉， 4 你们便知道我这样告诫你们，是为了维持我与你们祖先利未所立的约。这是万军之耶和华说的。 5 我与他所立的是生命和平安之约，我将生命和平安赐给他，使他心存敬畏。他就尊崇我，敬畏我的名。 6 他口中教导真理，嘴里毫无诡诈。他与我同行，过着平安正直的生活，并引导许多人远离罪恶。 7 祭司的嘴唇应持守知识，人民应从他口中寻求训诲，因为他是万军之耶和华的使者。 8 然而，你们却偏离正道，你们的教导使许多人跌倒，破坏了我和利未所立的约。”这是万军之耶和华说的。 9 “因此，我必使你们在众人面前遭藐视、轻贱。因为你们不遵守我的道，在教导上偏心待人。”
10 难道我们不是出于同一位父亲，由同一位上帝所造吗？为何我们竟彼此欺骗，背弃上帝与我们祖先所立的约呢？ 11 犹大人不忠贞，在以色列和耶路撒冷做了可憎的事，他们娶信奉外邦神明的女子为妻，亵渎了耶和华所爱的圣所。 12 愿耶和华从雅各的帐篷中铲除所有做这事并献供物给万军之耶和华的人！

True and False Priests
2 I, the Lord All-Powerful, have something else to say to you priests. 2 You had better take seriously the need to honor my name. Otherwise, when you give a blessing, I will turn it into a curse. In fact, I have already done this, because you haven't taken to heart your duties as priests. 3 I will punish your descendants and rub your faces in the manure from your animal sacrifices, and then be done with you.[a]
4 (A) I am telling you this, so I can continue to keep my agreement with your ancestor Levi. 5 (B) I blessed him with a full life, as I had promised, and he kept his part of the agreement by honoring me and respecting my name. 6 He taught the truth and never told lies, and he led a lot of people to turn from sin, because he obeyed me and lived right.
7 You priests should be eager to spread knowledge, and everyone should come to you for instruction, because you speak for me, the Lord All-Powerful. 8 But you have turned your backs on me. Your teachings have led others to do sinful things, and you have broken the agreement I made with your ancestor Levi. 9 So I caused everyone to hate and despise you, because you disobeyed me and failed to treat all people alike.
A Broken Agreement
10 Don't you know that we all have God as our Father? Didn't the one God create each of us? Then why do you cheat each other by breaking the agreement God made with your ancestors? 11 You people in Judah and Jerusalem have been unfaithful to the Lord. You have disgraced the temple that he loves, and you have committed the disgusting sin of marrying the worshipers of other gods. 12 I pray that the Lord will no longer let those who are guilty belong to his people, even if they eagerly decide to offer the Lord a gift.[b]
13 And what else are you doing? You cry noisily and flood the Lord's altar with your tears, because he isn't pleased with your offerings and refuses to accept them. 14 And why isn't God pleased? It's because he knows that each of you men has been unfaithful to the wife you married when you were young. You promised that she would be your partner, but now you have broken that promise. 15 Didn't God create you and your wife to become like one person?[c] And why did he do this? It was so you would have children, and then lead them to become God's people. Don't ever be unfaithful to your wife. 16 The Lord God All-Powerful of Israel hates anyone who is cruel enough to divorce his wife. So take care never to be unfaithful!
17 You have worn out the Lord with your words. And yet, you ask, “How did we do that?”
You did it by saying, “The Lord is pleased with evil and doesn't care about justice.”

Rules for Priests
2 “Priests, this command is for you. 2 Listen to me. Pay attention to what I say. Honor my name,” says the Lord of heaven’s armies. “If you don’t, I will send a curse on you. I will curse your blessings. I have already cursed them because you don’t pay attention to what I say.
3 “I will punish your descendants. I will smear your faces with the garbage from your feasts. And you will be thrown away with it. 4 Then you will know why I am giving you this command. It is so that my agreement with Levi will continue,” says the Lord of heaven’s armies. 5 “My agreement for priests was with the tribe of Levi. I promised them life and peace. And I gave these to them so they would honor me. They did honor me and fear me. 6 They taught the true teachings. They spoke no lies. With peace and honesty they did what I said they should do. They kept many people from sinning.
7 “A priest should teach what he knows. People should learn the teachings from him because he is the messenger of the Lord of heaven’s armies. 8 But you priests have stopped obeying me. With your teachings you have caused many people to do wrong. You have broken the agreement with the tribe of Levi!” says the Lord of heaven’s armies. 9 “You have not been careful to do what I say. You take sides in court cases. So I have caused you to be hated and disgraced in front of everybody.”
Judah Was Not Loyal to God
10 We all have the same father. The same God made us. So why do people break their promises to each other? They don’t respect the agreement that our ancestors made with God. 11 The people of Judah have broken their promises. They have done something God hates in Israel and Jerusalem. The people of Judah did not respect the Temple that the Lord loves. The men of Judah married the women who worship foreign gods. 12 The man who does this might bring offerings to the Lord of heaven’s armies. But the Lord will still separate him from the community of Israel.
13 This is another thing you do. You cover the Lord’s altar with your tears. You cry and moan because the Lord does not accept your offerings. He is not pleased with what you bring. 14 You ask, “Why?” It is because the Lord sees how you treated the wife you married when you were young. You broke your promise with her. She was your partner. You promised yourself to her. 15 God made husbands and wives to become one body and one spirit for his purpose. This is so they would have children who are true to God. So be careful. Do not break your promise with the wife you married when you were young.
16 The Lord God of Israel says, “I hate divorce. And I hate people who do cruel things as easily as they put on clothes,” says the Lord of heaven’s armies. So be careful. And do not break your trust.
The Special Day of Judging
17 You have tired the Lord with what you say.
You ask, “How have we tired him?”
You did it by saying, “God thinks anyone who does evil is good. And he is pleased with them.” Or you asked, “Where is the God who is fair?”
