可拉之亂
16 可拉是利未的曾孫、哥轄的孫子、以斯哈的兒子。他跟呂便支派以利押的兩個兒子大坍和亞比蘭以及比勒的兒子安心中狂妄， 2 聯合二百五十名在以色列會眾中有聲望的首領反叛摩西， 3 一起攻擊摩西和亞倫，說：「你們太過分了！全體會眾都是聖潔的，有耶和華住在他們當中，你們憑什麼將自己置於耶和華的會眾之上？」 4 摩西聽了這話，就俯伏在地， 5 對可拉一夥人說：「到了明天早上，耶和華必顯明誰是屬於祂的，誰是聖潔的。祂必讓祂所揀選的人到祂面前。 6 可拉啊，你們要這樣做，你和你的同夥明天帶香爐來， 7 在耶和華面前點火添香。耶和華揀選誰，誰就是聖潔的。你們利未人太過分了！」 8 摩西又對可拉說：「利未人啊，你們聽我說！ 9 以色列的上帝把你們從以色列會眾中分別出來，使你們可以到祂面前，在祂的聖幕裡司職，替會眾辦事，你們還不滿足嗎？ 10 可拉啊，耶和華使你和其他利未人事奉祂，你們還不滿足，還要貪求祭司的職分嗎？ 11 其實你和你的同夥合謀反叛的是耶和華，而不是亞倫。」 12 摩西派人去召以利押的兒子大坍和亞比蘭，他們卻說：「我們不去！ 13 你帶我們離開奶蜜之鄉，要讓我們死在曠野，這還不夠嗎？你還想自立為王管轄我們嗎？ 14 你並沒有領我們到奶蜜之鄉，也沒有給我們田地和葡萄園作產業，你還想繼續矇騙我們嗎？我們不去！」
15 摩西非常憤怒，就對耶和華說：「求你不要接納他們的祭物。我沒有取過他們一頭驢，也沒有害過他們任何人。」 16 摩西對可拉說：「明天你和你的同夥要跟亞倫一起站在耶和華面前。 17 每人要拿一個香爐，放上香，帶到耶和華面前，共二百五十個。你和亞倫也要各拿一個香爐。」 18 於是，他們都拿著香爐，盛著火和香，跟摩西和亞倫一起站在會幕門口。 19 可拉把全體會眾招聚到會幕門口，要對付摩西和亞倫。這時，耶和華的榮光向會眾顯現。
20 耶和華對摩西和亞倫說： 21 「你們離開這些會眾，我好在頃刻之間消滅他們。」 22 摩西和亞倫就伏在地上說：「上帝啊，賜人生命的上帝啊！一人犯罪，你就要向全體會眾發怒嗎？」 23 耶和華對摩西說： 24 「你叫會眾離可拉、大坍和亞比蘭的帳篷遠一點。」
25 於是，摩西起來去大坍和亞比蘭那裡，以色列的長老也跟著他。 26 他對會眾說：「你們離這些惡人的帳篷遠一點，不要碰他們的任何東西，免得你們因他們的罪而受牽連，同遭毀滅。」 27 會眾便離開可拉、大坍和亞比蘭的帳篷。大坍和亞比蘭帶著妻小出來，站在自己的帳篷門口。 28 摩西對會眾說：「你們很快就知道，我所做的事都是奉耶和華之命而行，並非出於私意。 29 如果這些人像常人一樣死去，遭遇跟世人無異，我就不是耶和華派來的。 30 但如果耶和華做一件前所未有的事，使地裂開，吞下他們和屬於他們的一切，使他們活生生地墜入陰間，你們就知道這些人藐視耶和華了。」

36 耶和華對摩西說： 37 「你叫亞倫祭司的兒子以利亞撒去從火中把香爐撿起來，把炭火撒在遠處，因為那些香爐是聖潔的。 38 要把那些因犯罪而喪命之人的香爐打成薄片，用來包祭壇，因為那些香爐曾被獻在耶和華面前，是聖潔的，並且可讓以色列人引以為戒。」 39 於是，以利亞撒祭司取來被燒死之人所獻的銅香爐，叫人打成薄片用來包祭壇， 40 讓以色列人引以為戒，使亞倫子孫以外的人不致到耶和華面前燒香，以免像可拉及其同夥一樣滅亡。這是按照耶和華藉摩西的吩咐做的。
41 第二天，以色列全體會眾都埋怨摩西和亞倫說：「你們害死了耶和華的子民。」 42 會眾聚集起來反對摩西和亞倫，他們向會幕觀看，忽然有雲彩遮蓋了會幕，耶和華的榮光顯現了。 43 摩西和亞倫來到會幕前， 44 耶和華對摩西說： 45 「你們離開這些會眾，我好在頃刻之間消滅他們。」他們二人就俯伏在地。 46 摩西對亞倫說：「取香爐來，裡面放些壇上的火，添上香，趕快帶到會眾那裡為他們贖罪，因為耶和華發怒了，瘟疫已經開始。」 47 亞倫就照著摩西的吩咐取來香爐，跑到會眾當中。那時瘟疫已經在人群中蔓延起來。他就在爐中放上香為民眾贖罪。 48 他站在活人和死人中間，瘟疫就止住了。 49 除了在可拉事件中死亡的人以外，當天有一萬四千七百人死於瘟疫。 50 瘟疫止住後，亞倫便回到在會幕門口的摩西那裡。

16 Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men:
2 And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:
3 And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the Lord?
4 And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face:
5 And he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even to morrow the Lord will shew who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.
6 This do; Take you censers, Korah, and all his company;
7 And put fire therein, and put incense in them before the Lord to morrow: and it shall be that the man whom the Lord doth choose, he shall be holy: ye take too much upon you, ye sons of Levi.
8 And Moses said unto Korah, Hear, I pray you, ye sons of Levi:
9 Seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the Lord, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them?
10 And he hath brought thee near to him, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee: and seek ye the priesthood also?
11 For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered together against the Lord: and what is Aaron, that ye murmur against him?
12 And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: which said, We will not come up:
13 Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except thou make thyself altogether a prince over us?
14 Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up.
15 And Moses was very wroth, and said unto the Lord, Respect not thou their offering: I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them.
16 And Moses said unto Korah, Be thou and all thy company before the Lord, thou, and they, and Aaron, to morrow:
17 And take every man his censer, and put incense in them, and bring ye before the Lord every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; thou also, and Aaron, each of you his censer.
18 And they took every man his censer, and put fire in them, and laid incense thereon, and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron.
19 And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the glory of the Lord appeared unto all the congregation.
20 And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
21 Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.
22 And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?
23 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
24 Speak unto the congregation, saying, Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.
25 And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.
26 And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of their's, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.
27 So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children.
28 And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that the Lord hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind.
29 If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the Lord hath not sent me.
30 But if the Lord make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the Lord.
31 And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them:
32 And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.
33 They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.
34 And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also.
35 And there came out a fire from the Lord, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.
36 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
37 Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter thou the fire yonder; for they are hallowed.
38 The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the Lord, therefore they are hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel.
39 And Eleazar the priest took the brasen censers, wherewith they that were burnt had offered; and they were made broad plates for a covering of the altar:
40 To be a memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the Lord; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as the Lord said to him by the hand of Moses.
41 But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the Lord.
42 And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the Lord appeared.
43 And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.
44 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
45 Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.
46 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the Lord; the plague is begun.
47 And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people.
48 And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.
49 Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside them that died about the matter of Korah.
50 And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the plague was stayed.

16 (A)Or Core, figlio di Isar, figlio di Cheat, figlio di Levi, insieme con Datan e Abiram, figli di Eliab, e On, figlio di Pelet, tutti e tre della tribù di Ruben, 2 insorsero contro Mosè con duecentocinquanta Israeliti autorevoli nella comunità, membri del consiglio, uomini rinomati; 3 e, radunatisi contro Mosè e contro Aaronne, dissero loro: «Basta! Tutta la comunità, tutti, dal primo all’ultimo, sono santi, e il Signore è in mezzo a loro; perché dunque vi mettete al di sopra dell’assemblea del Signore?»
4 Quando Mosè ebbe udito questo, si prostrò con la faccia a terra; 5 poi parlò a Core e a tutta la gente che era con lui, e disse: «Domani mattina il Signore farà conoscere chi è suo e chi è santo, e se lo farà avvicinare; farà avvicinare a sé colui che egli avrà scelto. 6 Fate questo: prendete dei turiboli, tu, Core, e tutta la gente che è con te; 7 domani li riempirete di fuoco e li coprirete d’incenso davanti al Signore: colui che il Signore sceglierà, sarà santo. Basta, figli di Levi!» 8 Mosè disse inoltre a Core: «Ora ascoltate, o figli di Levi! 9 Vi sembra poco che il Dio d’Israele vi abbia scelti in mezzo alla comunità d’Israele e vi abbia fatto avvicinare a sé per fare il servizio del tabernacolo del Signore e per tenervi davanti alla comunità per esercitare il vostro ministero per lei? 10 Egli vi fa avvicinare a sé, te e tutti i tuoi fratelli figli di Levi con te, e pretendete anche il sacerdozio? 11 Per questo tu e tutta la gente che è con te avete fatto lega contro il Signore! Poiché chi è Aaronne che vi mettete a mormorare contro di lui?»
12 E Mosè mandò a chiamare Datan e Abiram, figli di Eliab; ma essi dissero: «Noi non saliremo. 13 Ti sembra poco l’averci fatto uscire da un paese dove scorrono il latte e il miele, per farci morire nel deserto? Vuoi elevarti su di noi come un capo? 14 E poi, non ci hai davvero condotti in un paese dove scorrono il latte e il miele e non ci hai dato possesso di campi né di vigne! Credi forse di poter bendare gli occhi a questa gente? Noi non saliremo».
15 Allora Mosè si adirò molto e disse al Signore: «Non gradire la loro oblazione; io non ho preso da costoro neppure un asino, e non ho fatto torto ad alcuno di loro».
16 Poi Mosè disse a Core: «Tu e tutta la tua gente trovatevi domani davanti al Signore: tu e loro con Aaronne; 17 e ciascuno di voi prenda il suo turibolo, vi metta dell’incenso, e porti ciascuno il suo turibolo davanti al Signore: saranno duecentocinquanta turiboli. Anche tu e Aaronne prenderete ciascuno il vostro turibolo». 18 Essi dunque presero ciascuno il proprio turibolo, vi misero del fuoco, vi posero sopra dell’incenso e si fermarono all’ingresso della tenda di convegno; lo stesso fecero Mosè e Aaronne. 19 E Core convocò tutta la comunità contro Mosè e Aaronne all’ingresso della tenda di convegno; e la gloria del Signore apparve a tutta la comunità. 20 Il Signore parlò a Mosè e ad Aaronne e disse: 21 «Separatevi da questa gente e io li consumerò in un attimo». 22 Ma essi si prostrarono con la faccia a terra e dissero: «O Dio, Dio che dai la vita a ogni creatura! Un uomo solo ha peccato, e vorresti adirarti contro tutta la comunità?» 23 E il Signore disse a Mosè: 24 «Parla alla comunità e dille: “Allontanatevi dalla dimora di Core, di Datan e di Abiram”».
25 Mosè si alzò e andò da Datan e da Abiram; e gli anziani d’Israele lo seguirono. 26 Egli disse alla comunità: «Allontanatevi dalle tende di questi uomini malvagi e non toccate nulla di ciò che appartiene a loro, affinché non periate a causa di tutti i loro peccati». 27 Così quelli si allontanarono dalla dimora di Core, di Datan e di Abiram. Datan e Abiram uscirono e si fermarono all’ingresso delle loro tende con le loro mogli, i loro figli e i loro bambini.
28 Mosè disse: «Da questo conoscerete che il Signore mi ha mandato per fare tutte queste cose, e che non le ho fatte di testa mia. 29 Se questa gente muore come muoiono tutti gli uomini, se la loro sorte è la sorte comune a tutti gli uomini, il Signore non mi ha mandato; 30 ma se il Signore fa una cosa nuova, se la terra apre la sua bocca e li ingoia con tutto quello che appartiene a loro e se essi scendono vivi nel soggiorno dei morti, allora riconoscerete che questi uomini hanno disprezzato il Signore».
31 Appena egli ebbe finito di pronunciare tutte queste parole, il suolo si spaccò sotto i piedi di quelli, 32 la terra spalancò la sua bocca e li ingoiò: essi e le loro famiglie, con tutta la gente che apparteneva a Core e tutta la loro roba. 33 Scesero vivi nel soggiorno dei morti; la terra si richiuse su di loro, ed essi scomparvero dal mezzo dell’assemblea. 34 Tutto Israele che era intorno a loro fuggì alle loro grida; perché dicevano: «Che la terra non ingoi anche noi!» 35 Un fuoco uscì dalla presenza del Signore e divorò i duecentocinquanta uomini che offrivano l’incenso.
36 Poi il Signore disse a Mosè: 37 «Di’ a Eleazar, figlio del sacerdote Aaronne, di tirar fuori i turiboli dall’incendio e di disperdere qua e là il fuoco, perché quelli sono sacri; 38 e dei turiboli di quegli uomini che hanno peccato al prezzo della loro vita si facciano tante lamine battute per rivestirne l’altare, poiché sono stati presentati davanti al Signore e quindi sono sacri; serviranno di segno ai figli d’Israele». 39 Il sacerdote Eleazar prese i turiboli di bronzo presentati dagli uomini che erano stati bruciati, ne fece delle lamine per rivestirne l’altare 40 e ricordare ai figli d’Israele che nessun estraneo ai discendenti di Aaronne deve accostarsi per ardere incenso davanti al Signore, affinché non gli capiti la sorte di Core e di quelli che erano con lui. Eleazar fece come il Signore gli aveva detto per mezzo di Mosè.
41 (B)Il giorno seguente tutta la comunità dei figli d’Israele mormorò contro Mosè e Aaronne e disse: «Voi avete fatto morire il popolo del Signore». 42 E avvenne che, mentre la comunità si radunava contro Mosè e Aaronne, i figli d’Israele si volsero verso la tenda di convegno; ed ecco che la nuvola la ricoprì e apparve la gloria del Signore. 43 Mosè e Aaronne vennero davanti alla tenda di convegno. 44 Il Signore disse a Mosè: 45 «Allontanatevi da questa comunità e io li consumerò in un attimo». Ed essi si prostrarono con la faccia a terra. 46 Mosè disse ad Aaronne: «Prendi il turibolo, riempilo di fuoco preso dall’altare, mettici sopra dell’incenso e portalo presto in mezzo alla comunità e fa’ l’espiazione per loro; poiché l’ira del Signore è scoppiata, il flagello è già cominciato». 47 Aaronne prese il turibolo, come Mosè aveva detto, corse in mezzo all’assemblea, ed ecco che il flagello era già cominciato fra il popolo. Aaronne mise l’incenso nel turibolo e fece l’espiazione per il popolo. 48 Si fermò tra i morti e i vivi e il flagello cessò. 49 I morti a causa del flagello furono quattordicimilasettecento, oltre a quelli che morirono per il fatto di Core. 50 Aaronne tornò da Mosè all’ingresso della tenda di convegno e il flagello era cessato.
