西罗非哈之众女儿
27 属约瑟的儿子玛拿西的各家族，有玛拿西的玄孙、玛吉的曾孙、基列的孙子、希弗的儿子西罗非哈的女儿，名叫玛拉、挪阿、曷拉、密迦、得撒；她们前来， 2 站在会幕门口，在摩西和以利亚撒祭司、众领袖和全体会众面前，说： 3 “我们的父亲死在旷野，他并不是在那聚集攻击耶和华的人之中，不属可拉一党的人；他死在自己的罪中，只是他没有儿子。 4 为甚么因为我们的父亲没有儿子，就把他的名从他的家族中除掉呢？求你在我们父亲的兄弟中，给我们产业。” 5 于是摩西就把她们的案件呈到耶和华面前。
6 耶和华对摩西说： 7 “西罗非哈的女儿说得有理，你一定要在她们父亲的兄弟中，给她们产业，要把她们父亲的产业给她们。 8 你也要告诉以色列人说：‘一个人死时，如果没有儿子，就要使他的产业归给他的女儿。 9 如果他没有女儿，就要把他的产业给他的兄弟。 10 如果他没有兄弟，就要把他的产业给他父系的兄弟。 11 如果他父亲没有兄弟，你们就要把他的产业给他家族中最近的亲属，那人就要得他的产业。这要作以色列人的律例、典章，是照着耶和华吩咐摩西的。’”
约书亚承继摩西的职位(A)
12 耶和华吩咐摩西说：“你要上这亚巴琳山去，看看我赐给以色列人的地。 13 看了以后，你也必归到你的本族那里去，像你哥哥亚伦归去一样。 14 因为在寻的旷野，会众争闹的时候，你们违背了我的命令，没有在涌水之地，在会众眼前尊我为圣。”这涌水之地在寻的旷野，就是加低斯的米利巴水。
15 摩西对耶和华说： 16 “愿耶和华万人之灵的 神，立一个人治理会众， 17 可以在他们面前出入；带领他们出入，免得耶和华的会众好象没有牧人的羊一样。” 18 耶和华对摩西说：“你要拣选嫩的儿子约书亚，他心里有圣灵，你要按手在他头上， 19 叫他站在以利亚撒祭司和全体会众面前，当他们的面委派他。 20 你要把你的尊荣给他几分，好叫以色列全体会众都听从他。 21 他要站在以利亚撒祭司面前，以利亚撒要借着乌陵的判断，在耶和华面前为他求问；他和以色列众人，就是全体会众，都要按着以利亚撒的命令出入。” 22 于是，摩西照着耶和华吩咐他的去行；他把约书亚领来，叫他站在以利亚撒祭司和全体会众面前， 23 按手在他头上，委派他，是照着耶和华藉摩西吩咐的。

女儿的继承权
27 西罗非哈是约瑟之子玛拿西的玄孙、玛吉的曾孙、基列的孙子、希弗的儿子。他的女儿是玛拉、挪阿、曷拉、密迦和得撒。她们前来， 2 站在会幕门口对摩西、以利亚撒祭司、众首领和全体会众说： 3 “我们的父亲死在旷野，他并没有跟可拉一伙一起反叛耶和华，而是因自己的罪而死，没有留下儿子。 4 难道因为他没有儿子，他的名字就要从族中消失吗？请让我们在父亲的家族中分一份产业吧。” 5 摩西就把她们的请求呈到耶和华面前。 6 耶和华对摩西说： 7 “西罗非哈的女儿说得有理。你要从她们父亲的家族中分一份产业给她们，让她们继承父亲的产业。 8 你要告诉以色列人，‘人死后如果没有儿子，就由女儿继承产业； 9 如果没有女儿，就由其兄弟继承； 10 如果没有兄弟，就由其父的兄弟继承； 11 如果其父没有兄弟，就由其族中最近的亲属继承。’”这是耶和华吩咐摩西颁布给以色列人的律例。
约书亚接替摩西做首领
12 耶和华对摩西说：“你上亚巴琳山去眺望我赐给以色列人的土地。 13 看了以后，你就要像你哥哥亚伦一样去祖先那里了。 14 因为会众在荀旷野反叛我的时候，你们二人没有按照我的指示取水，没有在他们面前尊我为圣。”耶和华指的是米利巴泉事件，发生在荀旷野的加低斯。 15 摩西对耶和华说： 16 “耶和华啊，你是赐人生命的上帝，求你立一个人做会众的首领， 17 带领他们或进或退，免得你的会众像没有牧人的羊群。” 18 耶和华对摩西说：“嫩的儿子约书亚心里有圣灵，你把他召来，按手在他身上， 19 让他站在以利亚撒祭司和全体会众面前，当着他们的面任命他做首领， 20 把你的权柄赐给他，使以色列全体会众都听从他。 21 遇到事情，他要去以利亚撒祭司那里，让祭司借着乌陵为他求问我。他和全体会众或进或出都要听从以利亚撒的指示。” 22 摩西遵命而行，把约书亚召来，让他站在以利亚撒祭司和全体会众面前， 23 然后照耶和华的吩咐按手在他的头上，任命他做首领。

Inheritance Laws
27 Then came the daughters of (A)Zelophehad the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, from the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph; and these were the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. 2 And they stood before Moses, before Eleazar the priest, and before the leaders and all the congregation, by the doorway of the tabernacle of meeting, saying: 3 “Our father (B)died in the wilderness; but he was not in the company of those who gathered together against the Lord, (C)in company with Korah, but he died in his own sin; and he had no sons. 4 Why should the name of our father be (D)removed[a] from among his family because he had no son? (E)Give us a [b]possession among our father’s brothers.”
5 So Moses (F)brought their case before the Lord.
6 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 7 “The daughters of Zelophehad speak what is right; (G)you shall surely give them a possession of inheritance among their father’s brothers, and cause the inheritance of their father to pass to them. 8 And you shall speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘If a man dies and has no son, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass to his daughter. 9 If he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers. 10 If he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father’s brothers. 11 And if his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to the relative closest to him in his family, and he shall possess it.’ ” And it shall be to the children of Israel (H)a statute of judgment, just as the Lord commanded Moses.
Joshua the Next Leader of Israel(I)
12 Now the Lord said to Moses: (J)“Go up into this Mount Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the children of Israel. 13 And when you have seen it, you also (K)shall [c]be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother was gathered. 14 For in the Wilderness of Zin, during the strife of the congregation, you (L)rebelled against My command to hallow Me at the waters before their eyes.” (These are the (M)waters of Meribah, at Kadesh in the Wilderness of Zin.)
15 Then Moses spoke to the Lord, saying: 16 “Let the Lord, (N)the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, 17 (O)who may go out before them and go in before them, who may lead them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord may not be (P)like sheep which have no shepherd.”
18 And the Lord said to Moses: “Take Joshua the son of Nun with you, a man (Q)in whom is the Spirit, and (R)lay your hand on him; 19 set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation, and (S)inaugurate[d] him in their sight. 20 And (T)you shall give some of your authority to him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel (U)may be obedient. 21 (V)He shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire before the Lord for him (W)by the judgment of the Urim. (X)At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, he and all the children of Israel with him—all the congregation.”
22 So Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation. 23 And he laid his hands on him (Y)and [e]inaugurated him, just as the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses.

Zelophehad’s Daughters(A)
27 The daughters of Zelophehad(B) son of Hepher,(C) the son of Gilead,(D) the son of Makir,(E) the son of Manasseh, belonged to the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph. The names of the daughters were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah. They came forward 2 and stood before Moses,(F) Eleazar the priest, the leaders(G) and the whole assembly at the entrance to the tent of meeting(H) and said, 3 “Our father died in the wilderness.(I) He was not among Korah’s followers, who banded together against the Lord,(J) but he died for his own sin and left no sons.(K) 4 Why should our father’s name disappear from his clan because he had no son? Give us property among our father’s relatives.”
5 So Moses brought their case(L) before the Lord,(M) 6 and the Lord said to him, 7 “What Zelophehad’s daughters are saying is right. You must certainly give them property as an inheritance(N) among their father’s relatives and give their father’s inheritance to them.(O)
8 “Say to the Israelites, ‘If a man dies and leaves no son, give his inheritance to his daughter. 9 If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers. 10 If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father’s brothers. 11 If his father had no brothers, give his inheritance to the nearest relative in his clan, that he may possess it. This is to have the force of law(P) for the Israelites, as the Lord commanded Moses.’”
Joshua to Succeed Moses
12 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go up this mountain(Q) in the Abarim Range(R) and see the land(S) I have given the Israelites.(T) 13 After you have seen it, you too will be gathered to your people,(U) as your brother Aaron(V) was, 14 for when the community rebelled at the waters in the Desert of Zin,(W) both of you disobeyed my command to honor me as holy(X) before their eyes.” (These were the waters of Meribah(Y) Kadesh, in the Desert of Zin.)
15 Moses said to the Lord, 16 “May the Lord, the God who gives breath to all living things,(Z) appoint someone over this community 17 to go out and come in before them, one who will lead them out and bring them in, so the Lord’s people will not be like sheep without a shepherd.”(AA)
18 So the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership,[a](AB) and lay your hand on him.(AC) 19 Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and the entire assembly and commission him(AD) in their presence.(AE) 20 Give him some of your authority so the whole Israelite community will obey him.(AF) 21 He is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiring(AG) of the Urim(AH) before the Lord. At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in.”
22 Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and had him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole assembly. 23 Then he laid his hands on him and commissioned him,(AI) as the Lord instructed through Moses.
