25 以色列人驻扎在什亭期间，有些人与摩押女子行淫。 2 那些女子邀他们参加祭祀，他们吃了祭物，并跪拜她们的神明， 3 结果使以色列与巴力·毗珥苟合。耶和华大怒， 4 对摩西说：“把为首的人都抓起来，当着我的面在大白天处死他们，以消除我对以色列人的怒气。” 5 于是，摩西对以色列的审判官说：“你们各自把权下与巴力·毗珥苟合的人处死。”
6 摩西和以色列全体会众正在会幕门口痛哭的时候，有个以色列人当着他们的面把一个米甸女子带进自家的帐篷。 7 亚伦祭司的孙子、以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈看见了，便起身离开会众，拿着矛枪， 8 跟着进入那人的帐篷，一枪刺透那对男女的腹部。以色列人当中的瘟疫马上止住了， 9 但已有两万四千人死于瘟疫。
10 耶和华对摩西说： 11 “亚伦祭司的孙子、以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈消了我对以色列人的怒气。因为在会众中他与我一样痛恨不贞，我才没有在烈怒中消灭他们。 12 你告诉他，我要赐给他平安的约， 13 使他和他的后代凭此约可以永远做祭司，因为他为我除掉了不贞之人，为以色列人赎了罪。”
14 与米甸女子一同被杀的以色列人名叫心利，是撒路的儿子，是西缅支派的一个族长。 15 被杀的米甸女子名叫哥斯比，她父亲苏珥是米甸人的一个族长。 16 耶和华对摩西说： 17 “你要攻打米甸人，击杀他们。 18 因为他们心存敌意，在毗珥陷害你们，他们的姊妹——米甸首领的女儿哥斯比诱惑你们，她在毗珥事件招来瘟疫之日被杀。”

25 以色列人住在什亭，人民與摩押的女子行起淫亂來。 2 那些女子叫以色列人來，一同給她們的神獻祭，以色列人也吃了她們的祭物，跪拜她們的神。 3 以色列人與巴力．毘珥連合，耶和華就向以色列人發怒。 4 耶和華對摩西說：“把人民的首領都捉來，在我耶和華面前對著太陽把他們懸掛起來，好使耶和華的烈怒可以轉消，不向以色列人發作。” 5 於是摩西對以色列的審判官說：“你們各人要把與巴力．毘珥連合的人都殺了。”
6 摩西和以色列全體會眾在會幕門口哭泣的時候，以色列人中有一個人來，當著他們的面帶了一個米甸女子到自己的兄弟那裡去。 7 亞倫祭司的孫子、以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈看見了，就從會眾中起來，手裡拿著槍， 8 跟著那以色列人，進入臥室，把他們兩人刺透，就是刺透那以色列人和那女子。槍刺進了那女子的肚腹。這樣，在以色列人中的瘟疫才止住。 9 那時因瘟疫而死的，共有二萬四千人。
10 耶和華對摩西說： 11 “亞倫祭司的孫子、以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈，使我的烈怒稍消，不向以色列人發作，因為他在他們中間以我忌邪的心為心，使我不因我忌邪的心把他們消滅。 12 因此你要說：‘現在我把平安之約賜給他， 13 要給他和他的後裔作為永遠擔當祭司職分的約，因為他為他的 神有忌邪的心，為以色列人贖罪。’”
14 那被殺的以色列人，就是與那米甸女子一同被殺的人，名叫心利，是撒路的兒子，是西緬支派中一個家族的領袖。 15 那被殺的米甸女子，名叫哥斯比，是蘇珥的女兒；這蘇珥是米甸一個家族的族長。
16 耶和華對摩西說： 17 “你要擾害米甸人，打擊他們； 18 因為他們用詭計擾害你們；在毘珥的事上，和他們的姊妹，米甸領袖的女兒哥斯比的事上，用詭計欺騙了你們。”這哥斯比在瘟疫的日子，因毘珥的事被殺了。

Baal Worship at Peor
25 While Israel lived in (A)Shittim, (B)the people began to whore with the daughters of Moab. 2 (C)These invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods. 3 So Israel yoked himself to Baal of Peor. And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel. 4 And the Lord said to Moses, (D)“Take all the chiefs of the people and (E)hang[a] them in the sun before the Lord, (F)that the fierce anger of the Lord may turn away from Israel.” 5 And Moses said to (G)the judges of Israel, (H)“Each of you kill those of his men who have yoked themselves to Baal of Peor.”
6 And behold, one of the people of Israel came and brought a Midianite woman to his family, in the sight of Moses and in the sight of the whole congregation of the people of Israel, while they were (I)weeping in the entrance of the tent of meeting. 7 (J)When Phinehas (K)the son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose and left the congregation and took a spear in his hand 8 and went after the man of Israel into the chamber and pierced both of them, the man of Israel and the woman through her belly. Thus the plague on the people of Israel was stopped. 9 Nevertheless, (L)those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.
The Zeal of Phinehas
10 And the Lord said to Moses, 11 “Phinehas the son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has turned back my wrath from the people of Israel, in that he (M)was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I did not consume the people of Israel in (N)my jealousy. 12 Therefore say, (O)‘Behold, I give to him my covenant of peace, 13 and it shall be to him and to (P)his descendants after him the covenant of (Q)a perpetual priesthood, because he was jealous for his God and made atonement for the people of Israel.’”
14 The name of the slain man of Israel, who was killed with the Midianite woman, was Zimri the son of Salu, chief of a father's house belonging to the Simeonites. 15 And the name of the Midianite woman who was killed was Cozbi the daughter of (R)Zur, who was the tribal head of a father's house in Midian.
16 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 17 (S)“Harass the Midianites and strike them down, 18 for they have harassed you with their (T)wiles, with which they beguiled you in the matter of (U)Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of the chief of Midian, their sister, who was killed on the day of the plague on account of Peor.”
