6 那时，所罗门说：
“耶和华啊，
你曾说你要住在密云中，
2 现在我为你建造了殿宇，
作你永远的居所。”
所罗门为民众祝福
3 王转身为站立在那里的以色列全体会众祝福。 4 他说：“以色列的上帝耶和华当受称颂！祂亲口给我父大卫的应许，祂也亲手成就了！ 5 祂曾说，‘自从我把我的子民带出埃及以来，我并没有在以色列众支派中选出一座城建造殿宇作为我名所在之地，也没有选立一人做我以色列子民的君王。 6 但如今，我拣选了耶路撒冷作为我名所在之地，又拣选了大卫来治理我的以色列子民。’”
7 所罗门又说：“我父大卫曾想建一座殿来尊崇以色列的上帝耶和华之名， 8 但耶和华对我父大卫说，‘你想为我建殿，这番心意是好的， 9 但你不要建，要由你的亲生儿子为我建殿。’ 10 现在耶和华已经成就祂的应许，让我继承我父大卫的王位统治以色列，又为以色列的上帝耶和华的名建了殿。 11 我把约柜安放在里面，约柜里有耶和华与以色列人所立的约。”

12 所罗门当着以色列会众的面，站在耶和华的坛前，向天伸出双手祷告。 13 他曾造一个长二点二五米，宽二点二五米，高一点三五米的铜台，放在院子中间。他站在台上，当着以色列会众的面跪下，向天伸出双手， 14 祷告说：“以色列的上帝耶和华啊，天上地下没有神明可以与你相比！你向尽心遵行你旨意的仆人守约、施慈爱。 15 你持守给你仆人——我父大卫的应许，你曾亲口应许，你今天亲手成就了。 16 以色列的上帝耶和华啊，你曾对你仆人——我父大卫说，‘若你的子孙像你一样谨慎行事，遵行我的律法，你的王朝就不会中断。’求你信守这应许。 17 以色列的上帝耶和华啊，求你实现你给你仆人大卫的应许。

34 “你的子民奉你的命令上阵与敌人作战，无论他们在哪里，如果他们向着你选择的这城和我为你建造的这殿祷告， 35 求你从天上垂听，使他们得胜。

Salomoʼs gebed bij de inwijding van de tempel
6 1,2 Dit was het gebed dat Salomo bij deze plechtigheid uitsprak: ‘De Here heeft gezegd dat Hij wilde wonen in een donkere wolk. Zo heb ik dan een huis voor U gebouwd, een woonplaats waar U voor altijd kunt verblijven.’ 3 Daarna draaide de koning zich om naar de samengekomen Israëlieten en zegende hen met de woorden: 4 ‘Gezegend zij de Here, de God van Israël, die rechtstreeks tegen mijn vader David sprak en nu zijn belofte aan hem is nagekomen. Want Hij zei tegen hem: 5,6 “Nooit eerder, al sinds de dag waarop Ik mijn volk uit Egypte bevrijdde, heb Ik in Israël een stad uitgekozen om mijn tempel te laten bouwen om mijn naam daar te laten eren, en nooit eerder koos Ik een koning voor mijn volk Israël. Maar nu heb Ik Jeruzalem gekozen om er te wonen en David uitgekozen als koning.” 7 Het was de hartewens van mijn vader David deze tempel te bouwen als een woonplaats voor de Here, de God van Israël. 8,9 Maar de Here zei tegen mijn vader David: “Het is goed dat dit uw voornemen is, maar u mag dit zelf niet doen. Maar uw eigen zoon zal dit huis wel voor mijn naam bouwen.” 10 En nu heeft de Here gedaan wat Hij beloofd heeft, want Ik ben mijn vader opgevolgd als koning en ik heb de tempel gebouwd voor de naam van de Here, de God van Israël 11 en er de ark een plaats gegeven. In die ark rust het verbond tussen de Here en zijn volk Israël.’
12,13 Terwijl hij deze toespraak hield, stond koning Salomo op een verhoging midden in de buitenste voorhof voor het altaar van de Here. Die verhoging was van koper, 2,25 meter in het vierkant en 1,35 meter hoog. Terwijl iedereen toekeek, knielde hij, spreidde zijn armen uit naar de hemel en sprak het volgende gebed uit: 14 ‘O Here, God van Israël, er is geen god zoals U in de hele hemel of op aarde. U houdt U aan het verbond en blijft trouw aan hen die U gehoorzamen en die met vreugde uw wil doen. 15 U bent uw belofte aan mijn vader David nagekomen, zoals vandaag blijkt. 16 En nu, God van Israël, wilt U zorgen dat ook de rest van wat U hem hebt beloofd, werkelijkheid wordt? U zei immers tegen mijn vader David: “Uw nakomelingen zullen voor altijd over Israël regeren als zij mijn wetten net zo nauwgezet gehoorzamen als u hebt gedaan.” 17 Ja, Here, God van Israël, laat ook dat werkelijkheid worden. 18 Maar zou God werkelijk bij de mensen op aarde willen wonen? Maar waarom dan toch? De hemel, zelfs de allerhoogste hemelen kunnen U niet bevatten. Hoe zou die tempel die ik heb gebouwd, dat dan wel kunnen? 19 Ik bid dat U mijn gebeden zult verhoren, Here, mijn God. Luister naar mijn gebed dat ik nu naar U opzend. 20,21 Zie dag en nacht vriendelijk neer op deze tempel, op deze plaats waarvan U hebt gezegd dat U hier uw naam zou vestigen. Wilt U altijd de gebeden die ik naar deze tempel gekeerd naar U opzend, horen en beantwoorden? Luister naar de gebeden van mij en van uw volk Israël, als wij naar deze tempel gericht tot U bidden. Ja, luister naar ons vanuit de hemel en als U ons hoort, vergeef ons dan.
22 Als iemand een misdaad heeft begaan en voor dit altaar een zelfvervloeking over zich afroept, 23 luister dan vanuit de hemel. Straf hem als hij werkelijk schuldig is en spreek hem vrij als hij onschuldig is.
24 Als de Israëlieten worden verslagen door hun vijanden omdat zij tegen U hebben gezondigd en als zij zich daarna tot U wenden, zichzelf uw volk noemen en naar deze tempel gericht tot U bidden, 25 luister dan vanuit de hemel naar hen, vergeef hun zonden en geef hun het land terug dat U hun voorouders gaf.
26 Als de hemel is gesloten en het niet regent omdat wij hebben gezondigd en wij naar deze tempel gericht bidden, U onze God noemen en wij ons bekeren van onze zonden nadat U ons hebt gestraft, 27 luister dan vanuit de hemel en vergeef de zonden van uw dienaren, uw volk Israël, en wijs ons de juiste levensweg. Stuur dan weer regen naar dit land, dat U aan uw volk als eigendom hebt gegeven.
28 Als hongersnood heerst in uw land of de pest, er misoogsten zijn of het land te lijden heeft van sprinkhanen of andere insecten, als de vijanden van uw volk het land zijn binnengevallen en de steden belegeren of als er andere plagen of ziektes zijn, 29 luister dan zowel naar het smeekgebed van ieder persoonlijk als naar het bidden van uw gehele volk. 30 Luister vanuit de hemel waar U woont, vergeef en geef ieder wat hij verdient, want U alleen kent de harten van alle mensen. 31 Dan zullen zij diep ontzag voor U koesteren en de wegen bewandelen die U wijst, zolang ze leven in het land dat u onze voorouders gegeven hebt.
32 Zelfs als vreemdelingen die niet bij uw volk Israël horen, iets vernemen over uw grote naam en vanuit verre landen hierheen komen om uw grote naam te vereren en in de richting van deze tempel bidden, 33 luister dan naar hen vanuit de hemel waar U woont en geef hun wat zij van U vragen. Dan zullen alle volken ter wereld U leren kennen, eren en gehoorzamen, net zoals uw volk Israël dat doet. En ook zij zullen dan beseffen dat aan deze tempel, die ik heb gebouwd, uw Naam verbonden is.
34 Als de Israëlieten op uw bevel de strijd aanbinden met hun vijanden en bidden in de richting van deze stad Jeruzalem, die U hebt uitgekozen en deze tempel die ik voor uw naam heb gebouwd, 35 luister dan vanuit de hemel naar hun gebeden en geef hun de overwinning.
36 Als zij tegen U zondigen (er is immers geen mens die niet zondigt) en U toornig op hen wordt en toelaat dat hun vijanden hen verslaan en als gevangenen naar een nabijgelegen of verafgelegen vreemd land meenemen 37,38 en als zij in dat land van ballingschap zich weer tot U bekeren en vol verlangen in de richting kijken van dit land dat U aan hun voorouders gaf en in de richting van deze stad en deze tempel die ik heb gebouwd en met hun hele hart hun zonden aan U belijden en U vragen hen te vergeven, 39 luister dan vanuit de hemel waar U woont, naar hen. Help hen en vergeef uw volk, dat tegen U heeft gezondigd. 40 Ja, mijn God, houd uw ogen en oren geopend voor alle gebeden die vanuit deze plaats tot U worden gericht.
41 Sta nu op, Here God, en vestig U in deze rustplaats waar de ark van uw kracht al een plaats heeft gevonden. Laten uw priesters, Here, in heil gekleed gaan en laten uw vrienden zich verheugen over uw vriendelijke optreden. 42 O Here God, keer uw gezicht niet af van mij, uw gezalfde. Denk toch aan uw liefde voor David en de goedheid waarmee U hem hebt behandeld.’

6 Then (A)Solomon spoke:
“The Lord said He would dwell in the (B)dark cloud.
2 I have surely built You an exalted house,
And (C)a place for You to dwell in forever.”

3 Then the king turned around and (E)blessed the whole assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel was standing. 4 And he said: “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who has fulfilled with His hands what He spoke with His mouth to my father David, (F)saying, 5 ‘Since the day that I brought My people out of the land of Egypt, I have chosen no city from any tribe of Israel in which to build a house, that My name might be there, nor did I choose any man to be a ruler over My people Israel. 6 (G)Yet I have chosen Jerusalem, that My name may be there, and I (H)have chosen David to be over My people Israel.’ 7 Now (I)it was in the heart of my father David to build a [a]temple for the name of the Lord God of Israel. 8 But the Lord said to my father David, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a temple for My name, you did well in that it was in your heart. 9 Nevertheless you shall not build the temple, but your son who will come from your body, he shall build the temple for My (J)name.’ 10 So the Lord has fulfilled His word which He spoke, and I have filled the position of my father David, and (K)sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised; and I have built the temple for the name of the Lord God of Israel. 11 And there I have put the ark, (L)in which is the covenant of the Lord which He made with the children of Israel.”

12 (N)Then [b]Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands 13 (for Solomon had made a bronze platform five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court; and he stood on it, knelt down on his knees before all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven); 14 and he said: “Lord God of Israel, (O)there is no God in heaven or on earth like You, who keep Your (P)covenant and mercy with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts. 15 (Q)You have kept what You promised Your servant David my father; You have both spoken with Your mouth and fulfilled it with Your hand, as it is this day. 16 Therefore, Lord God of Israel, now keep what You promised Your servant David my father, saying, (R)‘You shall not fail to have a man sit before Me on the throne of Israel, (S)only if your sons take heed to their way, that they walk in My law as you have walked before Me.’ 17 And now, O Lord God of Israel, let Your word come true, which You have spoken to Your servant David.
18 “But will God indeed dwell with men on the earth? (T)Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this [c]temple which I have built! 19 Yet regard the prayer of Your servant and his supplication, O Lord my God, and listen to the cry and the prayer which Your servant is praying before You: 20 that Your eyes may be (U)open toward this temple day and night, toward the place where You said You would put Your name, that You may hear the prayer which Your servant makes (V)toward this place. 21 And may You hear the supplications of Your servant and of Your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. Hear from heaven Your dwelling place, and when You hear, (W)forgive.
22 “If anyone sins against his neighbor, and is forced to take an (X)oath, and comes and takes an oath before Your altar in this temple, 23 then hear from heaven, and act, and judge Your servants, bringing retribution on the wicked by bringing his way on his own head, and justifying the righteous by giving him according to his (Y)righteousness.
24 “Or if Your people Israel are defeated before an (Z)enemy because they have sinned against You, and return and confess Your name, and pray and make supplication before You in this temple, 25 then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of Your people Israel, and bring them back to the land which You gave to them and their fathers.
26 “When the (AA)heavens are shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against You, when they pray toward this place and confess Your name, and turn from their sin because You afflict them, 27 then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of Your servants, Your people Israel, that You may teach them the good way in which they should walk; and send rain on Your land which You have given to Your people as an inheritance.
28 “When there (AB)is famine in the land, pestilence or blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers; when their enemies besiege them in the land of their cities; whatever plague or whatever (AC)sickness there is; 29 whatever prayer, whatever supplication is made by anyone, or by all Your people Israel, when each one knows his own burden and his own grief, and spreads out his hands to this temple: 30 then hear from heaven Your dwelling place, and forgive, and give to everyone according to all his ways, whose heart You know (for You alone (AD)know the (AE)hearts of the sons of men), 31 that they may fear You, to walk in Your ways as long as they live in the land which You gave to our fathers.
32 “Moreover, concerning a foreigner, (AF)who is not of Your people Israel, but has come from a far country for the sake of Your great name and Your mighty hand and Your outstretched arm, when they come and pray in this temple; 33 then hear from heaven Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You, that all peoples of the earth may know Your name and fear You, as do Your people Israel, and that they may know that [d]this temple which I have built is called by Your name.
34 “When Your people go out to battle against their enemies, wherever You send them, and when they pray to You toward this city which You have chosen and the temple which I have built for Your name, 35 then hear from heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.
36 “When they sin against You (for there is (AG)no one who does not sin), and You become angry with them and deliver them to the enemy, and they take them (AH)captive to a land far or near; 37 yet when they [e]come to themselves in the land where they were carried captive, and repent, and make supplication to You in the land of their captivity, saying, ‘We have sinned, we have done wrong, and have committed wickedness’; 38 and when they return to You with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, where they have been carried captive, and pray toward their land which You gave to their fathers, the (AI)city which You have chosen, and toward the temple which I have built for Your name: 39 then hear from heaven Your dwelling place their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive Your people who have sinned against You. 40 Now, my God, I pray, let Your eyes be (AJ)open and let Your ears be attentive to the prayer made in this place.
41 “Now(AK) therefore,
Arise, O Lord God, to Your (AL)resting place,
You and the ark of Your strength.
Let Your priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation,
And let Your saints (AM)rejoice in goodness.
42 “O Lord God, do not turn away the face of Your Anointed;
(AN)Remember the mercies of Your servant David.”
