亞撒王擊敗古實人
14 亞比雅與他祖先同睡，葬在大衛城，他的兒子亞撒接續他作王。亞撒在位期間，國中太平十年。 2 亞撒行耶和華—他 神眼中看為善為正的事， 3 除掉外邦的祭壇和丘壇，打碎柱像，砍下亞舍拉， 4 吩咐猶大人尋求耶和華—他們列祖的 神，遵行他的律法和誡命， 5 又在猶大各城鎮除掉丘壇和香壇。在他治理下，國中太平。 6 他在猶大建造了幾座堅固城。那些年間，國中太平，沒有戰爭，因為耶和華賜他平安。 7 他對猶大人說：「我們要建造這些城鎮，四圍築牆，蓋城樓，安門，做閂；地仍屬於我們，因為我們尋求耶和華—我們的 神；我們尋求他，他就賜我們四境平安。」於是他們建造城鎮，諸事亨通。 8 亞撒的軍兵，出自猶大拿盾牌拿槍的三十萬人，出自便雅憫拿小盾牌拉弓的二十八萬人；這些全都是大能的勇士。
9 古實人謝拉率領一百萬軍兵，三百輛戰車，出來攻擊猶大人，到了瑪利沙。 10 亞撒出去迎戰，在瑪利沙的洗法谷彼此擺陣。 11 亞撒呼求耶和華—他的 神說：「耶和華啊，在強弱之間，惟有你能幫助。耶和華—我們的 神啊，求你幫助我們，因為我們仰賴你，奉你的名來抵擋這大軍。耶和華啊，你是我們的 神，不要讓人勝過你。」 12 於是耶和華擊打古實人，使他們敗在亞撒和猶大人面前，古實人就逃跑了。 13 亞撒和跟隨他的軍兵追趕他們，直到基拉耳。古實人被殺的很多，無法復原，因為他們在耶和華與他軍兵面前被擊潰。猶大人奪了許多財物， 14 又攻打基拉耳四圍一切的城鎮；城中的人都懼怕耶和華。猶大人擄掠了一切的城鎮，因其中的財物很多， 15 又毀壞了羣畜的圈，奪取許多的羊和駱駝，就回耶路撒冷去了。

14 亚比雅与祖先同眠后，葬在大卫城中，他儿子亚撒继位。亚撒执政期间，国中太平十年。 2 亚撒做他的上帝耶和华看为好、视为正的事， 3 拆除外族神明的丘坛和神庙，打碎神柱，砍倒亚舍拉神像， 4 命令犹大人寻求他们祖先的上帝耶和华，遵行祂的律法和诫命。 5 他除掉犹大各城邑的丘坛和香坛，那时国中太平。 6 他还在犹大修筑坚城，那些年国中太平，没有战事，因为耶和华赐他平安。 7 他对犹大人说：“我们要修筑城邑，在四周建造城墙和望楼，装置大门和门闩。我们仍拥有这片土地，是因为我们寻求我们的上帝耶和华；我们寻求祂，祂就赐我们四境平安。”于是，他们修筑城邑，凡事顺利。 8 亚撒的军队中有三十万持大盾牌和矛枪的犹大人，二十八万持小盾牌和弓箭的便雅悯人。他们都是英勇的战士。

12 于是，耶和华使古实人败在亚撒和犹大人面前，古实人溃逃。 13 亚撒率领军队乘胜追击，直追到基拉耳。古实人在耶和华和祂的军兵面前大败，伤亡惨重，一蹶不振。犹大人掳走了许多财物， 14 攻陷了基拉耳四周的城邑，因为这些城里的人都惧怕耶和华。他们洗劫各城，因为城中有大量财物。 15 他们毁坏牲畜的围栏，抢走许多羊和骆驼，然后返回耶路撒冷。

14 So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.
2 And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God:
3 For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:
4 And commanded Judah to seek the Lord God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.
5 Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
6 And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the Lord had given him rest.
7 Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the Lord our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.
8 And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour.
9 And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.
10 Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
11 And Asa cried unto the Lord his God, and said, Lord, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O Lord our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O Lord, thou art our God; let no man prevail against thee.
12 So the Lord smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
13 And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the Lord, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.
14 And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the Lord came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.
15 They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
