5 以色列的长子原是吕便，但因为他玷污了父亲的床[a]，他长子的名分就给了他弟弟约瑟的后代。因此，按家谱他不是长子。 2 犹大虽然在众弟兄中最强大，君王也是出自他的后裔，长子的名分却属于约瑟。 3 以色列长子吕便的儿子是哈诺、法路、希斯伦和迦米。

5 The sons of Reuben(A) the firstborn of Israel (he was the firstborn, but when he defiled his father’s marriage bed,(B) his rights as firstborn were given to the sons of Joseph(C) son of Israel;(D) so he could not be listed in the genealogical record in accordance with his birthright,(E) 2 and though Judah(F) was the strongest of his brothers and a ruler(G) came from him, the rights of the firstborn(H) belonged to Joseph)— 3 the sons of Reuben(I) the firstborn of Israel:
