23 大衛年紀老邁，壽數將盡，就立他兒子所羅門為以色列王。 2 他召集了以色列的眾首領、祭司和利未人。 3 凡三十歲以上的利未人都在統計之列，共有三萬八千男子， 4 其中有兩萬四千人在耶和華的殿裡司職，六千人做官長和審判官， 5 四千人守門，四千人用大衛提供的樂器頌讚耶和華。 6 大衛將利未人革順、哥轄和米拉利的子孫分成班次。
7 革順的兒子有拉但和示每。 8 拉但有長子耶歇，還有細坦和約珥，共三個兒子， 9 都是拉但族的族長。示每的兒子有示羅密、哈薛和哈蘭三人。 10 示每的兒子還有雅哈、細拿、耶烏施和比利亞四人。 11 雅哈是長子，細拿是次子。耶烏施和比利亞的子孫不多，所以合為一族。
12 哥轄有暗蘭、以斯哈、希伯崙、烏薛四個兒子。 13 暗蘭的兒子是亞倫和摩西。亞倫和他的子孫永遠被分別出來事奉耶和華，向祂獻至聖之物，在祂面前燒香，奉祂的名祝福，直到永遠。 14 上帝的僕人摩西的子孫歸在利未支派的名下。 15 摩西的兒子是革舜和以利以謝。 16 革舜的長子是細布業。 17 以利以謝只有一個兒子利哈比雅，但利哈比雅子孫眾多。 18 以斯哈的長子是示羅密。 19 希伯崙的長子是耶利雅，次子是亞瑪利亞，三子是雅哈悉，四子是耶加緬。 20 烏薛的長子是米迦，次子是耶西雅。

The Divisions of the Levites
23 So when David was old and full of days, he made his son (A)Solomon king over Israel.
2 And he gathered together all the leaders of Israel, with the priests and the Levites. 3 Now the Levites were numbered from the age of (B)thirty years and above; and the number of individual males was thirty-eight thousand. 4 Of these, twenty-four thousand were to (C)look after the work of the house of the Lord, six thousand were (D)officers and judges, 5 four thousand were gatekeepers, and four thousand (E)praised the Lord with musical instruments, (F)“which I made,” said David, “for giving praise.”
6 Also (G)David separated them into [a]divisions among the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
7 Of the (H)Gershonites: [b]Laadan and Shimei. 8 The sons of Laadan: the first Jehiel, then Zetham and Joel—three in all. 9 The sons of Shimei: Shelomith, Haziel, and Haran—three in all. These were the heads of the fathers’ houses of Laadan. 10 And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, [c]Zina, Jeush, and Beriah. These were the four sons of Shimei. 11 Jahath was the first and Zizah the second. But Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons; therefore they were assigned as one father’s house.
12 (I)The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel—four in all. 13 The sons of (J)Amram: Aaron and Moses; and (K)Aaron was set apart, he and his sons forever, that he should [d]sanctify the most holy things, (L)to burn incense before the Lord, (M)to minister to Him, and (N)to give the blessing in His name forever. 14 Now (O)the sons of Moses the man of God were reckoned to the tribe of Levi. 15 (P)The sons of Moses were [e]Gershon and Eliezer. 16 Of the sons of Gershon, (Q)Shebuel[f] was the first. 17 Of the descendants of Eliezer, (R)Rehabiah was the first. And Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very many. 18 Of the sons of Izhar, (S)Shelomith was the first. 19 (T)Of the sons of Hebron, Jeriah was the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth. 20 Of the sons of Uzziel, Michah was the first and Jesshiah the second.
21 (U)The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli were Eleazar and (V)Kish. 22 And Eleazar died, and (W)had no sons, but only daughters; and their [g]brethren, the sons of Kish, (X)took them as wives. 23 (Y)The sons of Mushi were Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth—three in all.
24 These were the sons of (Z)Levi by their fathers’ houses—the heads of the fathers’ houses as they were counted individually by the number of their names, who did the work for the service of the house of the Lord, from the age of (AA)twenty years and above.
25 For David said, “The Lord God of Israel (AB)has given rest to His people, that they may dwell in Jerusalem forever”; 26 and also to the Levites, “They shall no longer (AC)carry the tabernacle, or any of the articles for its service.” 27 For by the (AD)last words of David the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above; 28 because their duty was to help the sons of Aaron in the service of the house of the Lord, in the courts and in the chambers, in the purifying of all holy things and the work of the service of the house of God, 29 both with (AE)the showbread and (AF)the fine flour for the grain offering, with (AG)the unleavened cakes and (AH)what is baked in the pan, with what is mixed and with all kinds of (AI)measures and sizes; 30 to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at evening; 31 and at every presentation of a burnt offering to the Lord (AJ)on the Sabbaths and on the New Moons and on the (AK)set[h] feasts, by number according to the ordinance governing them, regularly before the Lord; 32 and that they should (AL)attend to the (AM)needs of the tabernacle of meeting, the needs of the holy place, and the (AN)needs of the sons of Aaron their brethren in the work of the house of the Lord.

Recensement et fonctions des Lévites
23 Agé et rassasié de jours, David désigna son fils Salomon roi sur Israël. 2 Il rassembla tous les chefs d'Israël, les prêtres et les Lévites. 3 On fit le dénombrement des Lévites âgés de 30 ans et plus; on compta 38'000 individus de sexe masculin. 4 David dit: «Qu'il y en ait 24'000 pour diriger les travaux de la maison de l'Eternel, 6000 pour officier comme magistrats et juges, 5 4000 comme portiers et 4000 pour louer l'Eternel avec les instruments que j'ai faits pour le célébrer.» 6 David les répartit en classes d'après les fils de Lévi: Guershon, Kehath et Merari.
7 Pour les Guershonites, il y avait Laedan et Shimeï. 8 Fils de Laedan: le chef Jehiel, Zétham et Joël, 3 en tout. 9 Fils de Shimeï: Shelomith, Haziel et Haran, ce qui fait 3. Ce sont là les chefs de famille de Laedan. 10 Autres fils de Shimeï: Jachath, Ziza, Jeush et Beria. Ce sont là les 4 fils de Shimeï. 11 Jachath était le chef, et Ziza le deuxième; Jeush et Beria n'eurent pas beaucoup de fils et ils formèrent une seule famille dans le dénombrement.
12 Voici les fils de Kehath: Amram, Jitsehar, Hébron et Uziel, 4 en tout. 13 Fils d'Amram: Aaron et Moïse. Aaron fut mis à part pour être consacré au lieu très saint, avec ses descendants, pour toujours. Ils devaient offrir les parfums devant l'Eternel, le servir et bénir pour toujours en son nom. 14 Quant aux fils de Moïse, homme de Dieu, ils furent comptés dans la tribu de Lévi. 15 Fils de Moïse: Guershom et Eliézer. 16 Fils de Guershom: Shebuel, le chef. 17 Les descendants d'Eliézer furent: Rechabia, le chef, et ses très nombreux fils; Eliézer lui-même n'eut pas d'autre fils. 18 Fils de Jitsehar: Shelomith, le chef. 19 Fils d'Hébron: Jerija, le chef, Amaria, le deuxième, Jachaziel, le troisième, et Jekameam, le quatrième. 20 Fils d'Uziel: Michée, le chef, et Jishija, le deuxième.

24 Ce sont là les Lévites en fonction de leur famille avec les chefs de famille d'après le dénombrement qu'on en fit en comptant les noms des individus. Dès l’âge de 20 ans, ils furent affectés au service de la maison de l'Eternel, 25 car David avait dit: «L'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, a donné du repos à son peuple, et il habitera pour toujours à Jérusalem. 26 Ainsi, les Lévites n'auront plus à porter le tabernacle ni tous les ustensiles destinés à son service.» 27 Ce fut d'après les derniers ordres de David qu'eut lieu le dénombrement des Lévites âgés de 20 ans et plus. 28 Chargés d’assister les descendants d'Aaron pour le service de la maison de l'Eternel, ils étaient responsables des parvis et des chambres, de la purification de toutes les choses saintes, des travaux liés au service de la maison de Dieu, 29 des pains consacrés, de la fleur de farine pour les offrandes, des galettes sans levain, des gâteaux cuits sur la plaque et des gâteaux frits, de toutes les mesures de capacité et de longueur. 30 Ils devaient être présents chaque matin et chaque soir afin de louer et de célébrer l'Eternel, 31 et offrir continuellement devant lui tous les holocaustes qui lui étaient destinés lors des sabbats, des débuts de mois et des fêtes, suivant le nombre fixé par la règle. 32 Ils veillaient sur la tente de la rencontre, sur le sanctuaire et sur les descendants d'Aaron, leurs frères, pour le service de la maison de l'Eternel.
