大衛擊敗亞捫人和亞蘭人
19 後來，亞捫王拿轄死了，他兒子繼位。 2 大衛說：「我要恩待拿轄的兒子哈嫩，因為他父親曾經恩待我。」他便派臣僕去安慰喪父的哈嫩。大衛的臣僕來到亞捫境內要安慰哈嫩， 3 亞捫的官長卻對哈嫩說：「大衛派人來安慰你，你以為他是來弔唁你父親嗎？他的臣僕來見你不過是來探聽虛實，想征服這地方。」 4 哈嫩便把大衛的臣僕抓起來，剃去他們一半鬍子，割去他們下身的衣服，然後放走他們。 5 消息傳到大衛那裡，他就派人去迎接他們，告訴他們住在耶利哥，等鬍鬚長好了再回來，因為他們倍覺羞辱。
6 哈嫩及其他亞捫人知道得罪了大衛，就派人用三十四噸銀子從美索不達米亞、亞蘭瑪迦和瑣巴招兵買馬， 7 雇了三萬二千輛戰車和瑪迦王及其軍隊。他們在米底巴附近紮營，亞捫人也從各城出來準備作戰。 8 大衛聽見消息後，就派約押率領全體勇士出戰。 9 亞捫人在城門前列陣，來助戰的諸王在郊野列陣。
10 約押見自己前後受敵，就從以色列軍中挑選一些精兵迎戰亞蘭人， 11 把餘下的軍兵交給他的兄弟亞比篩領導，迎戰亞捫人。 12 他對亞比篩說：「倘若我勝不過亞蘭人，你便過來支援我；倘若你勝不過亞捫人，我便過去支援你。 13 我們要剛強，為我們的人民和我們上帝的城邑而奮勇作戰。願耶和華成全祂自己的旨意！」 14 於是，約押率領軍兵進攻亞蘭人，亞蘭人敗逃。 15 見亞蘭人敗逃，亞捫人也逃離亞比篩，退回城中。約押便回師耶路撒冷。
16 亞蘭人見自己敗在以色列人手下，就派使者調來幼發拉底河那邊的亞蘭人，由哈大底謝的將軍朔法率領。 17 大衛聽到消息後，就召集以色列全軍，渡過約旦河，列陣與亞蘭人交戰。 18 他們擊潰了亞蘭人，殺了七千名戰車兵、四萬步兵，還殺了他們的將軍朔法。 19 哈大底謝的屬下見自己敗於以色列人，便向大衛求和，臣服於他。從此，亞蘭人不敢再支援亞捫人了。

19 后来，亚扪人的王拿辖死了，他的儿子接续他作王。 2 大卫说：“我要恩待拿辖的儿子哈嫩，因为他的父亲曾恩待我。”于是大卫差派使者去为了他丧父的事安慰他。大卫的臣仆到了亚扪人境内，去见哈嫩要安慰他。 3 但亚扪人的众领袖对哈嫩说：“大卫差派这些慰问的人到你这里来，你以为他是尊敬你父亲吗？他的臣仆来见你，不是为了窥探、倾覆、侦察这地吗？” 4 于是，哈嫩拿住大卫的臣仆，剃去他们的胡须，又把他们的衣服，从臀部以下割去半截，然后才放他们走。 5 有人去把这些人遭遇的事告诉大卫，他就派人去迎接他们；因为他们非常羞耻，王就说：“你们可以住在耶利哥，等到你们的胡须长长了才回来。”

6 亚扪人看见自己与大卫结了仇恨，哈嫩和亚扪人就派人用三万公斤银子，从米所波大米、亚兰玛迦和琐巴去雇战车和马兵。 7 他们雇了三万二千辆战车，以及玛迦王和他的军队；他们都来在米底巴前面安营。亚扪人也从他们的各城聚集起来，出来作战。 8 大卫听见了，就差派约押和全体勇士出去。 9 亚扪人出来，在城门前摆阵；前来助阵的列王，也在田野摆阵。

10 约押看见自己前后受敌，就从以色列所有的精兵中，挑选一部分出来，使他们摆阵去迎战亚兰人， 11 他把其余的人交在他兄弟亚比筛手下，使他们摆阵去迎战亚扪人。 12 约押对亚比筛说：“如果亚兰人比我强，你就来帮助我；如果亚扪人比你强，我就去帮助你。 13 你当刚强；为了我们的人民和我们 神的众城镇，我们要刚强；愿耶和华成全他看为美的行事。”

14 于是约押和他的军队前进，预备作战攻打亚兰人；亚兰人却在约押面前逃跑了。 15 亚扪人看见亚兰人逃跑，他们也在约押的兄弟亚比筛面前逃跑，退回城里。约押就回耶路撒冷去了。
16 亚兰人看见自己在以色列人面前被打败，就差派使者去把大河那边的亚兰人调过来，有哈大底谢的元帅朔法率领他们。 17 大卫得到报告，就招聚以色列众人，渡过约旦河，来到亚兰人那里，向他们摆阵。大卫摆好阵迎战亚兰人，亚兰人就与他交战。 18 亚兰人在以色列人面前逃跑；大卫杀了亚兰人七千辆战车上的军兵和四万步兵。又杀了亚兰人的元帅朔法。 19 哈大底谢的臣仆看见自己在以色列人面前被打败了，就与大卫议和，臣服了他；于是亚兰人不敢再帮助亚扪人。

19 4 Hanun King of the children of Ammon doeth great injuries to the servants of David. 6 He prepareth an army against David, 15 and is overcome.
1 After this also (A)Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his stead.
2 And David said, I will show kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his [a]father showed kindness unto me. And David sent messengers to comfort him for his father. So the servants of David came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.
3 And the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David doth honor thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? Are not his servants come to thee to [b]search, to seek and to spy out the land?
4 Wherefore Hanun took David’s servants, and [c]shaved them, and cut off their [d]garments by the half unto the buttocks, and sent them away.
5 And there went certain and told David concerning the men: and he sent to meet them (for the men were exceedingly ashamed) and the King said, Tarry at Jericho, until your beards be grown: then return.
6 ¶ When the children of Ammon saw that they [e]stank in the sight of David, then sent Hanun and the children of Ammon a thousand talents of silver, to hire them chariots and horsemen out (B)of Aram Naharaim, and out of Aram Maacah, and out of [f]Zobah.
7 And they hired them two and thirty thousand chariots, and the king of Maacah and his people, which came and pitched before [g]Medeba: and the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to the battle.
8 ¶ And when David heard it, he sent Joab and all the host of the valiant men.
9 And the children of Ammon came out, and set their battle in array at the gate of the city. And the kings that were come, were by themselves in the field.
10 When Joab saw that the front of the battle was against him before and behind, then he chose out of all the choice of Israel, and set himself in array to meet the Aramites.
11 And the rest of the people he delivered unto the hand of Abishai his brother, and they put themselves in array against the children of Ammon.
12 And he said, If Aram be too strong for me, then thou shalt succor me: and if the children of Ammon prevail against thee, then I will succor thee.
13 Be strong, and let us show ourselves valiant for our [h]people, and for the cities of our God, and let the Lord do that which is good in his own sight.
14 So Joab and the people that was with him, came near before the Aramites unto the battle, and they fled before him.
15 And when the children of Ammon saw that the Aramites fled, they fled also before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city: so Joab came to Jerusalem.
16 ¶ And when the Aramites saw that they were discomfited before Israel, they sent messengers, and caused the Aramites to come forth that were beyond the [i]river: and Shophach the captain of the host of Hadadezer went before them.
17 And when it was showed David, he gathered all Israel, and went over Jordan, and came unto them, and put himself in array against them: And when David had put himself in battle array to meet the Aramites, they fought with him.
18 But the Aramites fled before Israel, and David destroyed of the Aramites [j]seven thousand chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the host.
19 And when the servants of Hadadezer saw that they fell before Israel, they made peace with David, and served him. And the Aramites would no more succor the children of Ammon.
