2 我希望你們知道，為了你們和老底嘉人，以及許多從未和我見過面的人，我是怎樣努力奮鬥的， 2 為要使你們眾人心受鼓勵，聯結在愛裡，有豐富篤定的真知灼見，可以認識上帝的奧祕。這奧祕就是基督， 3 一切智慧和知識都蘊藏在祂裡面。 4 我講這番話是為了防止有人用花言巧語迷惑你們。 5 現在，我人雖不在你們那裡，心卻和你們在一起，看到你們生活井然有序，對基督堅信不移，我很喜樂。
生活以基督為中心
6 你們既然接受了基督耶穌為主，就當繼續遵從祂， 7 按照你們所受的教導在祂裡面扎根成長，信心堅固，滿懷感恩。
8 你們要謹慎，免得有人用空洞虛假的哲學把你們擄去。這些哲學不是出於基督，而是出於人的傳統和世俗的玄學。 9 因為上帝完全的神性有形有體地蘊藏在基督裡， 10 你們在基督裡得到了豐盛的生命。祂是一切執政者和掌權者的元首。
11 你們也在基督裡受了非人手所行的割禮，是基督為除掉你們的罪惡本性而行的割禮。 12 你們接受洗禮時已經與基督一同埋葬了，並藉著相信上帝使基督從死裡復活的大能，與基督一同復活了。 13 你們從前死在過犯和未被割除的罪惡本性中，但現在上帝卻使你們與基督一同活了過來。上帝赦免了我們一切的過犯， 14 撤銷了指控我們違背律法的罪狀，將它和基督一同釘在了十字架上， 15 打敗了一切在靈界執政、掌權的邪惡勢力，用基督在十字架上的勝利公開羞辱牠們。
16 所以，不可讓人在飲食、節期、朔日[a]或安息日的事上批評你們。 17 這些都不過是將來之事的影子，那真實的本體是基督。 18 有些人喜歡故作謙虛，敬拜天使，沉迷於所看見的幻象，你們不要因他們而失去得獎賞的資格。他們隨從墮落的思想無故自高自大， 19 沒有與身體的頭——基督聯結。全身是靠關節和筋絡維繫，從基督得到供應，按上帝的旨意漸漸成長。
20 你們既然和基督一同死了，擺脫了世俗的玄學，為什麼仍像活在世俗中， 21 服從「不可拿、不可嚐、不可摸」之類的規條呢？ 22 這些規條不過是人的戒律和說教，經不起實踐的考驗， 23 看似充滿智慧，其實只不過是自創的宗教、自表謙卑、苦待己身，對於克制邪情私慾毫無用處。

2 Jag vill att ni ska veta hur mycket jag kämpar för er och för dem i Laodikeia[a], och för alla andra som jag inte har träffat personligen. 2 Mitt mål är att de ska styrkas i sina hjärtan, bindas samman i kärlek och nå fram till hela den djupa och rika insikt som är kunskapen om Guds hemlighet[b], nämligen Kristus själv. 3 I honom finns vishetens och kunskapens[c] alla skatter gömda. 4 Detta säger jag för att ingen ska kunna lura er med lockande argument. 5 Även om jag fysiskt är långt borta från er, så är jag hos er i anden. Och jag gläder mig över att få se er stå disciplinerade och fasta i er tro på Kristus.
Nytt liv i gemenskapen med Kristus
6 Ni har tagit emot Kristus Jesus som Herren. Lev[d] då i honom, 7 fast rotade och uppbyggda i honom, styrkta i den tro ni har fått undervisning i, och tacka honom ständigt.
8 Låt ingen fängsla er med tomma och bedrägliga vishetsläror[e], som bygger på mänskliga traditioner och världens läror[f] och inte på Kristus. 9 Den gudomliga fullheten[g] bor nämligen i Kristus i kroppslig gestalt. 10 I honom, som är huvudet för alla härskare och makter,[h] har ni nått er fullhet. 11 I honom har ni också blivit omskurna[i], men inte så som människor gör det, utan genom Kristus omskärelse, det vill säga: ert gamla jag, som styrdes av synden, skars bort 12 när ni begravdes med honom i dopet. I dopet har ni också uppstått med honom genom tron på Guds kraft som uppväckte Kristus från de döda.
13 Ni var döda på grund av era överträdelser och ert oomskurna tillstånd. Men Gud lät er bli levande tillsammans med Kristus. Han förlät oss alla våra överträdelser 14 och drog ett streck över det skuldebrev med dess föreskrifter som anklagade oss. Det tog han bort och spikade fast på korset. 15 Han avväpnade härskarna och makterna och skämde ut dem inför hela världen, då han segrade över dem på korset.[j]
16 Låt därför ingen döma er för vad ni äter eller dricker, eller när det gäller olika högtider, nymånadsdagar eller sabbater. 17 Sådana är bara en skugga av det som skulle komma, men själva kroppen är Kristus.[k] 18 Låt inte segern tas ifrån er av några som ägnar sig åt falsk ödmjukhet och ängladyrkan och aldrig slutar att analysera sina syner. De tänker på ett högfärdigt, mänskligt sätt 19 och har tappat kontakten med huvudet, som hela kroppen får sitt stöd av och hålls samman av, med leder och senor, så att den växer så som Gud vill.
20 Med Kristus har ni dött bort från världens stadgar.[l] Varför beter ni er då som om ni fortfarande hörde till den här världen? Varför lyder ni påbud som: 21 ”Ha inte med det där att göra! Smaka inte på det där! Rör inte det där!”? 22 Sådant ska ju förbrukas och försvinna och hör bara ihop med mänskliga regler och läror. 23 Det kanske ser ut som vishet och som självvalda religiösa övningar, falsk ödmjukhet och förnekelse av och förakt för kroppens behov, men saknar värde.

2 I want you to know how hard I am contending(A) for you and for those at Laodicea,(B) and for all who have not met me personally. 2 My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart(C) and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery(D) of God, namely, Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.(E) 4 I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments.(F) 5 For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit(G) and delight to see how disciplined(H) you are and how firm(I) your faith in Christ(J) is.
Spiritual Fullness in Christ
6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord,(K) continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted(L) and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught,(M) and overflowing with thankfulness.
8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy,(N) which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces[a] of this world(O) rather than on Christ.
9 For in Christ all the fullness(P) of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head(Q) over every power and authority.(R) 11 In him you were also circumcised(S) with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh[b](T) was put off when you were circumcised by[c] Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism,(U) in which you were also raised with him(V) through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.(W)
13 When you were dead in your sins(X) and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you[d] alive(Y) with Christ. He forgave us all our sins,(Z) 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness,(AA) which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.(AB) 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities,(AC) he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them(AD) by the cross.[e]
Freedom From Human Rules
16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you(AE) by what you eat or drink,(AF) or with regard to a religious festival,(AG) a New Moon celebration(AH) or a Sabbath day.(AI) 17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come;(AJ) the reality, however, is found in Christ. 18 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility(AK) and the worship of angels disqualify you.(AL) Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind. 19 They have lost connection with the head,(AM) from whom the whole body,(AN) supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.(AO)
20 Since you died with Christ(AP) to the elemental spiritual forces of this world,(AQ) why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules:(AR) 21 “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? 22 These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish(AS) with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings.(AT) 23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility(AU) and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.

2 For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;
2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.
5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.
6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
19 And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not;
22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?
23 Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body: not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.
