感恩与祷告
3-4 我们听说了你们对基督耶稣的信心和对众圣徒的爱心，为你们祷告的时候，常常感谢我们主耶稣基督的父上帝。 5 你们能有这样的信心和爱心是因为那给你们存在天上的盼望，就是你们从前从福音真道中听到的盼望。 6 这福音不但传到了你们那里，也传到了世界各地，并且开花结果，信主的人数不断增长，正如你们当初听了福音，因为明白真理而认识上帝的恩典后的情形。 7 这福音是你们从我们亲爱的同工以巴弗那里得知的。他代表我们[a]做基督的忠仆， 8 并把圣灵赐给你们的爱心告诉了我们。
9 因此，从听到你们的消息那天起，我们便不断地为你们祷告，求上帝使你们在一切属灵的智慧和悟性上完全明白祂的旨意， 10 以便你们行事为人对得起主，凡事蒙祂喜悦，在一切良善的事上结出果实，对上帝的认识不断增加。 11 愿上帝以祂荣耀的权能使你们刚强，无论遇到什么事都能长久忍耐， 12 欢喜地感谢天父，因祂使你们有资格跟众圣徒在光明中同享基业。 13 祂把我们从黑暗的权势下拯救出来，带进祂爱子的国度里。 14 我们借着祂的爱子蒙救赎，罪过得到赦免。
基督超越一切
15 基督是那不能看见之上帝的真像，超越[b]一切受造之物。 16 因为万物都是借着祂创造的，天上的、地上的、有形的、无形的、做王的、统治的、执政的、掌权的，一切都是借着祂也是为了祂而创造的。 17 祂存在于万物之前，万物都靠祂而维系。 18 祂是教会的头，教会是祂的身体；祂是源头，是首先从死里复活的，这样祂可以在一切事上居首位。 19 因为上帝乐意让一切的丰盛住在祂里面， 20 又借着祂在十字架上所流的血成就了和平，使天地万物借着祂与上帝和好。
21 你们从前与上帝隔绝，行事邪恶，心思意念与祂为敌； 22 但现在上帝借着基督肉身的死使你们与祂和好了，让你们在祂面前成为圣洁无瑕、无可指责的人。 23 只是你们必须恒心持守所信的道，根基稳固，坚定不移，不要失去你们听到福音后所得到的盼望。这福音传给了天下万民。我保罗也做了这福音的使者。
保罗为教会受苦
24 现在我因能够为你们受苦而欢喜，并且我是为基督的身体——教会的缘故，在自己身上补满基督未受的苦难。 25 我受上帝的委派成为教会的仆人，要把上帝的道完整地传给你们。 26 这道是历世历代一直隐藏的奥秘，现在已经向祂的众圣徒显明了。 27 上帝要他们知道这奥秘在外族人中有何等丰富的荣耀，这奥秘就是基督在你们里面，使你们有荣耀的盼望。 28 我们传扬基督，用各样的智慧劝诫、教导众人，使他们在基督里长大成熟，好把他们带到上帝面前。 29 为此，我按着祂在我身上运行的大能尽心竭力，不辞劳苦。

感恩與禱告

Salutation
1 Paul, apôtre de Jésus-Christ par la volonté de Dieu, et le frère Timothée, saluent 2 ceux qui, à Colosses, font partie du peuple saint par leur union avec Christ et qui sont nos fidèles frères et sœurs en lui.
Que la grâce et la paix vous soient accordées par Dieu notre Père[a].
Prière de reconnaissance
3 Nous exprimons constamment à Dieu, le Père de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, notre reconnaissance à votre sujet dans nos prières pour vous. 4 En effet, nous avons entendu parler de votre foi en Jésus-Christ et de votre amour pour tous les membres du peuple saint. 5 Cette foi et cet amour se fondent sur ce qui fait votre espérance et que Dieu vous réserve dans les cieux. Cette espérance, vous l’avez connue par la prédication de la vérité, cet Evangile 6 qui est parvenu jusqu’à vous, comme il est aussi présent dans le monde entier où il porte du fruit et va de progrès en progrès – ce qui est également le cas parmi vous, depuis le jour où vous avez reçu et reconnu la grâce de Dieu dans toute sa vérité.
7 C’est Epaphras, notre cher collaborateur, qui vous en a instruits. Il est un fidèle serviteur de Christ auprès de vous[b] 8 et il nous a appris quel amour l’Esprit vous inspire.
Prière de Paul et hymne à Jésus-Christ
9 Aussi, depuis le jour où nous avons entendu parler de vous, nous aussi, nous ne cessons de prier Dieu pour vous. Nous lui demandons qu’il vous fasse connaître pleinement sa volonté, en vous donnant, par le Saint-Esprit, une entière sagesse et un parfait discernement. 10 Ainsi vous pourrez avoir une conduite digne du Seigneur et qui lui plaise à tous égards. Car vous porterez comme fruit toutes sortes d’œuvres bonnes et vous ferez des progrès dans la connaissance de Dieu. 11 Dieu vous fortifiera pleinement à la mesure de sa puissance glorieuse, pour que vous puissiez tout supporter et persévérer jusqu’au bout – et cela avec joie[c]. 12 Vous exprimerez votre reconnaissance au Père qui vous a rendus capables d’avoir part à l’héritage qu’il réserve dans la lumière aux membres de son peuple saint[d]. Car :
13 Il nous a arrachés
au pouvoir des ténèbres
et nous a fait passer
dans le royaume
de son Fils bien-aimé.
14 Etant unis à lui,
nous sommes délivrés,
car nous avons reçu
le pardon des péchés.
15 Ce Fils,
il est l’image
du Dieu que nul ne voit,
il est le Premier-né
de toute création.
16 Car c’est en lui
qu’ont été créées toutes choses
dans les cieux comme sur la terre,
les visibles, les invisibles,
les Trônes et les Seigneuries,
les Autorités, les Puissances.
C’est par lui et pour lui
que Dieu a tout créé.
17 Il est lui-même
bien avant toutes choses
et tout subsiste en lui.
18 Il est lui-même
la tête de son corps
qui est l’Eglise[e].
Ce Fils
est le commencement,
le Premier-né
de tous ceux qui sont morts,
afin qu’en toutes choses
il ait le premier rang.
19 Car c’est en lui
que Dieu a désiré
que toute plénitude
ait sa demeure.
20 Et c’est par lui
qu’il a voulu
réconcilier avec lui-même
l’univers tout entier :
ce qui est sur la terre
et ce qui est au ciel,
en instaurant la paix
par le sang que son Fils
a versé sur la croix.
21 Or vous, autrefois, vous étiez exclus de la présence de Dieu, vous étiez ses ennemis à cause de vos pensées qui vous amenaient à faire des œuvres mauvaises ; 22 mais maintenant, Dieu vous a réconciliés avec lui par le sacrifice de son Fils qui a livré à la mort son corps humain, pour vous faire paraître saints, irréprochables et sans faute devant lui. 23 Mais il vous faut, bien sûr, demeurer dans la foi, fermement établis sur ce fondement sans vous laisser écarter de l’espérance qu’annonce l’Evangile. Cet Evangile, vous l’avez entendu, il a été proclamé parmi toutes les créatures sous le ciel, et moi, Paul, j’en suis devenu le serviteur.
Christ, la vraie sagesse
Le combat de l’apôtre pour l’Eglise
24 Maintenant, je me réjouis des souffrances que j’endure pour vous. Car, en ma personne, je complète, pour le bien de son corps – qui est l’Eglise – ce qui manque aux persécutions dirigées contre Christ[f]. 25 C’est de cette Eglise que je suis devenu le serviteur, selon la responsabilité que Dieu m’a confiée à votre égard. Il m’a chargé d’annoncer sa Parole dans toute sa plénitude 26 en vous faisant connaître le secret de son plan tenu caché depuis toujours, de génération en génération, mais qui s’accomplit de façon manifeste pour les membres de son peuple saint. 27 Car Dieu a voulu leur faire connaître quelle est la glorieuse richesse que renferme le secret de son plan pour les non-Juifs. Et voici ce secret : Christ en vous[g], garantie de votre espérance de la gloire à venir.
28 C’est lui, Christ, que nous, nous annonçons, en avertissant et en enseignant tout être humain, en toute sagesse, afin de faire paraître devant Dieu tout homme parvenu à l’état d’adulte dans son union avec Christ. 29 Voilà pourquoi je travaille et je combats par la force de Christ qui agit puissamment en moi.

Paulus' gebed voor de gelovigen in Kolosse
1 Deze brief is van Paulus en van onze broeder Timoteüs. Ik heb van God de taak gekregen om boodschapper van Jezus Christus[a] te zijn. 2 We schrijven deze brief aan onze broeders en zusters die in Kolosse bij God horen en in Christus geloven. Ik bid dat God onze Vader in alles goed voor jullie zal zijn. En dat jullie vol zullen zijn van de vrede van God de Vader en van de Heer Jezus Christus. 3 We bidden altijd voor jullie. Dan danken we God, de Vader van onze Heer Jezus Christus, voor jullie. 4 Want we hebben gehoord over jullie geloof in Jezus Christus. Ook over jullie liefde voor alle gelovigen. 5 Jullie zijn zo vol geloof en liefde, doordat jullie vol verwachting uitkijken naar wat er in de hemel voor jullie klaarligt. Jullie hebben daarvan gehoord toen jullie het goede nieuws hoorden. En het goede nieuws is de waarheid.
6 Over de hele wereld worden mensen door het goede nieuws veranderd. Ook jullie zijn aan het veranderen. Dat begon op de dag dat jullie het goede nieuws hoorden en werkelijk ontdekten hoe goed en liefdevol God is. 7 Jullie hebben het goede nieuws gehoord van onze goede vriend en medewerker Epafras. Hij dient jullie als een trouwe dienaar van Christus. 8 Hij heeft ons verteld hoeveel jullie door de Heilige Geest van elkaar houden.
9 Sinds we dat weten, blijven we dan ook aldoor voor jullie bidden. We vragen God dat Hij jullie veel wijsheid en geestelijk inzicht zal geven. Want daardoor zullen jullie duidelijk kunnen weten wat zijn wil is. 10 Dan kunnen jullie leven zoals Hij het wil en Hem blij maken met alles wat jullie doen. Dan zullen jullie goede resultaten hebben van alle goede dingen die jullie doen. En ook zullen jullie God steeds beter leren kennen. 11 En jullie zullen vol worden van zijn hemelse kracht. Door die kracht zullen jullie kunnen volhouden en alles met blijdschap kunnen verdragen. 12 Ook zullen jullie de Vader danken, die jullie geschikt heeft gemaakt om zijn erfenis te krijgen. Die erfenis ligt klaar voor iedereen die bij zijn Koninkrijk van het licht hoort. 13 Hij heeft ons gered uit de macht van de duisternis. En Hij heeft ons overgeplaatst in het Koninkrijk van zijn Zoon, van wie Hij heel veel houdt. 14 Hij heeft ons gered door de dood van zijn Zoon. Want dankzij zijn dood heeft God ons al onze ongehoorzaamheid kunnen vergeven.
Jezus is in alle dingen de eerste
15 Jezus is de afbeelding van God. God kunnen we niet zien. Maar aan Jezus kunnen we zien wie God is. Jezus was er al vóórdat God alles maakte. 16 Want door Jezus heeft God alle dingen in de hemel en op de aarde gemaakt: de zichtbare dingen en de onzichtbare dingen, alles wat heerst en macht heeft. Alles is door Hem en voor Hem gemaakt. 17 Hij was er eerder dan al het andere. Alle dingen bestaan door Hem. 18 Hij is het Hoofd van de gemeente en de gemeente is zijn Lichaam. Hij is het begin van alles. Hij is de eerste die uit de dood is opgestaan. Zo is Hij dus van alles de eerste. 19 Want God had besloten Zelf in Jezus te komen wonen. 20 Door Jezus' dood aan het kruis heeft God vrede met ons gesloten. Door Jezus heeft Hij de vriendschap hersteld tussen Hemzelf en alles wat leeft op de aarde en in de hemel.
21 Ook met jullie is Hij vrienden geworden. Hij heeft al jullie schuld weggedaan. Vroeger leefden jullie vér bij God vandaan. Jullie waren vijanden van God door de slechte dingen die jullie deden. 22 Maar nu mogen jullie bij God horen, doordat Jezus mens werd en stierf om jullie schuld op Zich te nemen. Want Hij wilde dat jullie volmaakt en vrij van schuld bij Hem zouden kunnen komen. 23 Maar dat kan alleen, als jullie stevig blijven staan in het geloof. Laat je dus niet afleiden van het goede nieuws dat jullie hebben gehoord. Want alleen dat is de waarheid. En ik, Paulus, ben één van de mensen die dat goede nieuws aan de mensen vertel.
Paulus lijdt voor de gemeente van Christus
24 Ik ben er blij over dat ik voor jullie moet lijden. Zo vul ik aan wat Christus nog niet geleden heeft. Dat is goed voor zijn Lichaam: de gemeente.[b] 25 Ik ben een dienaar van de gemeente geworden. God gaf mij namelijk de taak om jullie het woord van God bekend te maken. 26 Eeuwenlang is Gods plan een groot geheim voor de mensen gebleven. 27 Maar nu heeft God zijn geweldige plan aan zijn kinderen bekend willen maken. Dat geweldige plan is, dat Christus ook in niet-Joodse mensen wil wonen. Door Hem ontvangen jullie alle goede dingen die God jullie wil geven.
28 Overal vertellen we over Christus. We waarschuwen alle mensen. Met alle wijsheid leren we hun alles wat we weten. Zo willen we iedereen de mogelijkheid geven om door Christus vrij te worden van schuld. 29 Hiervoor doe ik dan ook mijn uiterste best. Ik span mij ervoor in met alle kracht van God die in mij is.

- Colossenzen 1:1 'Christus' is niet Jezus' achternaam! Het woord 'Christus' is Grieks en betekent 'Gezalfde'. (Het Nieuwe Testament is in het Grieks geschreven). 'De gezalfde' is in de Joodse Boeken de man die speciaal door God met zijn Geest is gevuld ('gezalfd') om Israël te redden. In het Hebreeuws, de taal waarin het Oude Testament is geschreven, werd hij de 'Messias' genoemd, wat hetzelfde betekent.
- Colossenzen 1:24 Jezus' lijden deed de gemeente ontstaan. Het lijden van de gelovigen doet de gemeente groeien. Dus hun lijden is goed voor het Lichaam.

Thanksgiving and Prayer
3 We always thank God,(F) the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, 4 because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love(G) you have for all God’s people(H)— 5 the faith and love that spring from the hope(I) stored up for you in heaven(J) and about which you have already heard in the true message(K) of the gospel 6 that has come to you. In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit(L) and growing throughout the whole world(M)—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace. 7 You learned it from Epaphras,(N) our dear fellow servant,[c] who is a faithful minister(O) of Christ on our[d] behalf, 8 and who also told us of your love in the Spirit.(P)

The Supremacy of the Son of God
15 The Son is the image(AH) of the invisible God,(AI) the firstborn(AJ) over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created:(AK) things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities;(AL) all things have been created through him and for him.(AM) 17 He is before all things,(AN) and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head(AO) of the body, the church;(AP) he is the beginning and the firstborn(AQ) from among the dead,(AR) so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased(AS) to have all his fullness(AT) dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile(AU) to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven,(AV) by making peace(AW) through his blood,(AX) shed on the cross.
21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies(AY) in your minds(AZ) because of[g] your evil behavior. 22 But now he has reconciled(BA) you by Christ’s physical body(BB) through death to present you(BC) holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation(BD)— 23 if you continue(BE) in your faith, established(BF) and firm, and do not move from the hope(BG) held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven,(BH) and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.(BI)
Paul’s Labor for the Church
24 Now I rejoice(BJ) in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions,(BK) for the sake of his body, which is the church.(BL) 25 I have become its servant(BM) by the commission God gave me(BN) to present to you the word of God(BO) in its fullness— 26 the mystery(BP) that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. 27 To them God has chosen to make known(BQ) among the Gentiles the glorious riches(BR) of this mystery, which is Christ in you,(BS) the hope of glory.
28 He is the one we proclaim, admonishing(BT) and teaching everyone with all wisdom,(BU) so that we may present everyone fully mature(BV) in Christ. 29 To this end I strenuously(BW) contend(BX) with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.(BY)
