金燈臺和橄欖樹
4 那位與我說話的天使又來喚醒我，像喚醒睡覺的人一樣。 2 他問我：「你看見了什麼？」
我說：「我看見一個純金的燈臺，上面有一個油碗，燈臺上有七盞燈，每盞燈有七個燈芯。 3 燈臺旁邊有兩棵橄欖樹，左右各一棵。」 4 我問與我說話的天使：「主啊，這是什麼意思？」 5 他說：「你不知道嗎？」我說：「主啊，我不知道。」
6 他對我說：「這是耶和華對所羅巴伯講的話。萬軍之耶和華說，『不靠權勢，不靠才能，乃靠我的靈。 7 大山啊，你算什麼？你必在所羅巴伯面前化為平地。他必搬出那塊封殿頂的石頭，伴隨著歡呼聲——願恩典、恩典歸於這殿！』」
8 耶和華的話又傳給了我，說： 9 「所羅巴伯的手奠立這殿的根基，他的手也必完成這項工程。那時你便知道是萬軍之耶和華差遣我到你們這裡來的。 10 誰敢藐視這微不足道的日子？人們看見所羅巴伯手中拿著線錘時，就必歡喜。
「這七盞燈是耶和華遍察天下的眼睛。」
11 我又問天使：「燈臺左右的兩棵橄欖樹是什麼意思？」 12 然後我又問道：「流出橄欖油的兩個金管旁邊的兩根橄欖枝是什麼意思？」 13 他說：「你不知道嗎？」我說：「主啊，我不知道。」 14 他說：「這是侍立在天下之主旁邊的兩位受膏者。」

The Vision of the Lampstand
4 Then the ·angel [messenger] who was talking with me returned and woke me up as if I had been asleep. 2 He asked me, “What do you see?”
I said, “I see a solid gold ·lampstand [menorah] with a bowl at the top. And there are seven lamps and also seven ·places [pipes; spouts] for wicks. 3 There are two olive trees by it, one on the right of the bowl and the other on the left.”
4 I asked the ·angel [messenger] who talked with me, “·Sir [My lord], what are these?”
5 ·The angel [L He] said, “Don’t you know what they are?”
“No, sir,” I said.
6 Then he told me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘·You will not succeed by your own strength or by your own power [T Not by might, nor by power], but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord ·All-Powerful [Almighty; of Heaven’s Armies; T of hosts].
7 “Who are you, ·big [mighty; great] mountain? ·In front of [Compared with] Zerubbabel you will become ·flat land [a level plain], and he will bring out the ·topmost stone [capstone], ·shouting [or amid shouting], ‘·It’s beautiful! It’s beautiful [or Blessings, Blessings upon it; L Grace, Grace to it]!’”
8 Then the ·Lord spoke his word [L word of the Lord came] to me again, saying, 9 “[L The hands of] Zerubbabel has laid the foundation of this ·Temple [L house; Ezra 3:7–13], and he will complete it [Ezra 6:13–18]. Then you will know that the Lord ·All-Powerful [Almighty; of Heaven’s Armies; T of hosts] has sent me to you.
10 “·The people should not think that small beginnings are unimportant [L For who despises the day of small things?]. ·They [or These seven eyes] will ·be happy [rejoice] when they see Zerubbabel with ·tools [or his plumb line; or the chosen capstone], building the Temple.
“(These are the seven eyes of the Lord, which look back and forth across the earth.)”
11 Then I asked the ·angel [messenger], “What are the two olive ·trees [or branches] on the right and left of the lampstand?”
12 ·I also [or Again I] asked him, “What are the two olive branches beside the two gold pipes, from which the olive oil ·flows to the lamps [pours out]?”
13 He answered, “Don’t you know what they are?”
“No, ·sir [my lord],” I said.
14 So he said, “They are symbols of the two ·who have been appointed to serve [anointed ones who stand by] the Lord of all the earth.”

Fifth Vision: A Lampstand and Olive Trees
4 The angel who explained the visions woke me from what seemed like sleep. 2 Then he asked, “What do you see?”
“A solid gold lampstand with an oil container above it,” I answered. “On the stand are seven lamps, each with seven flames. 3 (A) One olive tree is on the right side and another on the left of the oil container. 4 But, sir, what do these mean?”
5 Then he asked, “Don't you know?”
“No sir,” I replied.
6 (B) So the angel explained that it was the following message of the Lord to Zerubbabel:[a]
I am the Lord All-Powerful. So don't depend on your own power or strength, but on my Spirit. 7 Zerubbabel, that mountain in front of you will be leveled to the ground. Then you will bring out the temple's most important stone and shout, “God has been very kind.”[b]
8 The Lord spoke to me again and said:
9 Zerubbabel laid the foundation for the temple, and he will complete it. Then everyone will know that you were sent by me, the Lord All-Powerful. 10 (C) Those who have made fun of this day of small beginnings will celebrate when they see Zerubbabel holding this important stone.[c]
Those seven lamps represent my eyes—the eyes of the Lord—and they see everything on this earth.
11 (D) Then I asked the angel, “What about the olive trees on each side of the lampstand? What do they represent? 12 And what is the meaning of the two branches from which golden olive oil[d] flows through the two gold pipes?”
13 “Don't you know?” he asked.
“No sir, I don't,” was my answer.
14 Then he told me, “These branches are the two chosen leaders[e] who stand beside the Lord of all the earth.”

- 4.10 important stone: Or “measuring line (with a stone attached to the end).”
- 4.12 golden olive oil: The Hebrew text has “gold,” which possibly refers to the color of the olive oil as it flows through the gold pipe.
- 4.14 chosen leaders: The Hebrew text has “people of oil.” In ancient times prophets, priests, and kings had olive oil poured over their heads to show that they had been chosen (see 1 Samuel 10.1; 16.13).
