耶和華呼召撒母耳
3 那孩子撒母耳在以利面前事奉耶和華，在那些日子，耶和華的言語稀少，異象也不常有。 2 有一天，以利躺臥在自己的地方，他的眼睛早已昏花，不能看得清楚了。 3 神的燈還沒有熄滅，撒母耳躺臥在耶和華的殿中，就是安放 神約櫃的地方。 4 耶和華呼喚撒母耳，他說：“我在這裡。” 5 他就跑到以利那裡，說：“你呼喚我，我在這裡。”以利說：“我沒有呼喚你，回去睡吧。”他就回去睡了。 6 耶和華再次呼喚撒母耳，他就起來走到以利那裡，說：“你呼喚我，我在這裡。”以利說：“我兒，我沒有呼喚你，回去睡吧。” 7 那時撒母耳還沒有認識耶和華，因為耶和華的話還沒有向他啟示。 8 耶和華第三次呼喚撒母耳，他又起來，走到以利那裡，說：“你呼喚我，我在這裡。”以利就明白是耶和華呼喚這孩子。 9 因此以利對撒母耳說：“去睡吧！如果他呼喚你，你就說：‘耶和華啊！請說，僕人敬聽。’”於是撒母耳回去，仍然睡在自己的地方。
10 耶和華又來站著，像前幾次一樣呼喚：“撒母耳，撒母耳！”他回答：“請說！僕人敬聽。” 11 耶和華對撒母耳說：“看哪！我要在以色列中行一件事，聽見的人，都必耳鳴； 12 在那日，我必在以利身上徹底實現我論到他的家所說的一切話。 13 我曾告訴他：‘我必按著他所知道的罪孽永遠處罰他的家。這罪就是他的兒子自招咒詛，他也不責備他們。’ 14 所以我向以利家起了誓：‘以利家的罪孽永遠不能用祭物或供物來買贖。’”
撒母耳將異象告訴以利
15 撒母耳睡到天亮，他就開了耶和華殿的門。但撒母耳不敢把異象告訴以利。 16 以利呼喚撒母耳，說：“我兒撒母耳！”他回答：“我在這裡。” 17 以利說：“耶和華對你說了甚麼話呢？你不要向我隱瞞，他對你所說的一切話，如果你向我隱瞞一句，願 神對付你，並且加倍對付你。” 18 於是撒母耳把一切話都告訴了以利，一句也沒有隱瞞。以利說：“他是耶和華，他看怎麼好，就怎麼行吧。”
撒母耳被立為先知
19 撒母耳漸漸長大，耶和華與他同在，使他所說的一切話，沒有一句落空。 20 從但到別是巴，以色列人都知道撒母耳被耶和華確立為先知。 21 耶和華又在示羅顯現，因為耶和華在示羅藉著他的話向撒母耳啟示自己。

Gott redet mit Samuel
3 Der junge Samuel wohnte bei Eli und diente dem Herrn. Zu jener Zeit geschah es sehr selten, dass der Herr den Menschen durch Worte oder Visionen etwas mitteilte. 2 Der alte Eli war inzwischen fast erblindet. Eines Nachts war er wie gewohnt zu Bett gegangen. 3 Auch Samuel hatte sich hingelegt. Er schlief im Heiligtum, ganz in der Nähe der Bundeslade. Die Lampe vor dem Allerheiligsten[a] brannte noch.
4 Da rief der Herr: »Samuel, Samuel!« »Ja«, antwortete der Junge, »ich komme!«, 5 und lief schnell zu Eli. »Hier bin ich. Du hast mich gerufen.«
Aber Eli sagte: »Nein, ich habe dich nicht gerufen. Geh nur wieder schlafen.« So legte Samuel sich wieder ins Bett.
6 Aber der Herr rief noch einmal: »Samuel, Samuel!« Und wieder sprang Samuel auf und lief zu Eli. »Ich bin schon da, du hast mich doch gerufen!«, sagte er. Eli verneinte wieder: »Ich habe dich nicht gerufen, mein Junge. Geh jetzt und leg dich ins Bett!«
7 Samuel wusste nicht, dass es der Herr war,[b] denn Gott hatte bisher noch nie direkt zu ihm gesprochen. 8 Doch nun rief der Herr zum dritten Mal: »Samuel, Samuel!« Und noch einmal lief der Junge zu Eli und sagte: »Hier bin ich! Jetzt hast du mich aber gerufen!« Da erkannte Eli, dass der Herr mit Samuel reden wollte. 9 Darum wies er ihn an: »Geh und leg dich wieder hin! Und wenn dich noch einmal jemand ruft, dann antworte: ›Sprich, Herr, ich höre. Ich will tun, was du sagst.‹«
Also ging Samuel wieder zu Bett. 10 Da trat der Herr zu ihm und rief wie vorher: »Samuel, Samuel!« Der Junge antwortete: »Sprich nur, ich höre. Ich will tun, was du sagst.« 11 Darauf sagte der Herr: »Ich will in Israel etwas so Schreckliches tun, dass keiner es ertragen kann, davon zu hören. 12 Bald werde ich Eli und seine Familie schwer bestrafen. Genauso wie ich es mir vorgenommen habe, lasse ich das Unglück über sie kommen. 13 Ich habe es Eli schon gesagt. Denn er wusste genau, dass seine Söhne durch ihre Machenschaften meinen Zorn auf sich ziehen. Trotzdem ließ er sie tun, was sie wollten. Darum sollen sie und ihre Nachkommen für alle Zeiten unter meinem Fluch stehen. 14 Ich habe geschworen: Weder durch Tieropfer noch durch andere Opfergaben sollen die Nachkommen Elis diese Schuld je wiedergutmachen können!«
15 Samuel blieb bis zum Morgen im Bett und öffnete dann wie gewohnt die Türen des Heiligtums. Er scheute sich, Eli von Gottes Botschaft zu erzählen. 16-17 Doch Eli rief ihn zu sich. »Mein Junge, was hat Gott dir gesagt?«, wollte er wissen. »Du musst mir alles genau berichten! Gott soll dich schwer bestrafen, wenn du mir auch nur ein Wort verheimlichst.« 18 Da erzählte Samuel ihm alles, ohne etwas zu verschweigen. »Er ist der Herr«, sagte Eli darauf, »er soll tun, was er für richtig hält.«
19 Samuel wuchs heran. Der Herr stand ihm bei und ließ keine Ankündigung von Samuel unerfüllt bleiben. 20 Ganz Israel, von Dan im Norden bis Beerscheba im Süden, erkannte, dass der Herr ihn zum Propheten erwählt hatte. 21 In den folgenden Jahren erschien Gott immer wieder in Silo, um mit Samuel zu reden und ihm Weisungen zu geben.

The Lord Calls Samuel
3 The boy Samuel ministered(A) before the Lord under Eli. In those days the word of the Lord was rare;(B) there were not many visions.(C)
2 One night Eli, whose eyes(D) were becoming so weak that he could barely see,(E) was lying down in his usual place. 3 The lamp(F) of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the house(G) of the Lord, where the ark(H) of God was. 4 Then the Lord called Samuel.
Samuel answered, “Here I am.(I)” 5 And he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”
But Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down.
6 Again the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”
“My son,” Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.”
7 Now Samuel did not yet know(J) the Lord: The word(K) of the Lord had not yet been revealed(L) to him.
8 A third time the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”
Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy. 9 So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!(M)”
Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”
11 And the Lord said to Samuel: “See, I am about to do something in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears about it tingle.(N) 12 At that time I will carry out against Eli everything(O) I spoke against his family—from beginning to end. 13 For I told him that I would judge his family forever because of the sin he knew about; his sons blasphemed God,[a] and he failed to restrain(P) them. 14 Therefore I swore to the house of Eli, ‘The guilt of Eli’s house will never be atoned(Q) for by sacrifice or offering.’”
15 Samuel lay down until morning and then opened the doors of the house of the Lord. He was afraid to tell Eli the vision, 16 but Eli called him and said, “Samuel, my son.”
Samuel answered, “Here I am.”
17 “What was it he said to you?” Eli asked. “Do not hide(R) it from me. May God deal with you, be it ever so severely,(S) if you hide from me anything he told you.” 18 So Samuel told him everything, hiding nothing from him. Then Eli said, “He is the Lord; let him do what is good in his eyes.”(T)
19 The Lord was with(U) Samuel as he grew(V) up, and he let none(W) of Samuel’s words fall to the ground. 20 And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba(X) recognized that Samuel was attested as a prophet of the Lord.(Y) 21 The Lord continued to appear at Shiloh, and there he revealed(Z) himself to Samuel through his word.

Samuel’s Call
3 The boy Samuel served the Lord in Eli’s presence.(A) In those days the word of the Lord was rare and prophetic visions were not widespread.(B)
2 One day Eli, whose eyesight was failing,(C) was lying in his usual place. 3 Before the lamp of God had gone out,(D) Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was located.
4 Then the Lord called Samuel,[a] and he answered, ‘Here I am.’ 5 He ran to Eli and said, ‘Here I am; you called me.’
‘I didn’t call,’ Eli replied. ‘Go back and lie down.’ So he went and lay down.
6 Once again the Lord called, ‘Samuel! ’
Samuel got up, went to Eli, and said, ‘Here I am; you called me.’
‘I didn’t call, my son,’ he replied. ‘Go back and lie down.’
7 Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, because the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. 8 Once again, for the third time, the Lord called Samuel. He got up, went to Eli, and said, ‘Here I am; you called me.’
Then Eli understood that the Lord was calling the boy. 9 He told Samuel, ‘Go and lie down. If he calls you, say, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” ’ So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 The Lord came, stood there, and called as before, ‘Samuel, Samuel! ’
Samuel responded, ‘Speak, for your servant is listening.’
11 The Lord said to Samuel, ‘I am about to do something in Israel that will cause everyone who hears about it to shudder.[b](E) 12 On that day I will carry out against Eli everything I said about his family, from beginning to end.(F) 13 I told him that I am going to judge his family for ever because of the iniquity which he knows about: his sons are cursing God,[c] and he has not stopped them.(G) 14 Therefore, I have sworn to Eli’s family: The iniquity of Eli’s family will never be wiped out by either sacrifice or offering.’(H)
15 Samuel lay down until the morning; then he opened the doors of the Lord’s house. He was afraid to tell Eli the vision, 16 but Eli called him and said, ‘Samuel, my son.’
‘Here I am,’ answered Samuel.
17 ‘What was the message he gave you? ’ Eli asked. ‘Don’t hide it from me. May God punish you and do so severely if you hide anything from me that he told you.’(I) 18 So Samuel told him everything and did not hide anything from him. Eli responded, ‘He is the Lord. Let him do what he thinks is good.’(J)
19 Samuel grew.(K) The Lord was with him,(L) and he fulfilled everything Samuel prophesied.[d](M) 20 All Israel from Dan to Beer-sheba knew that Samuel was a confirmed prophet of the Lord.(N) 21 The Lord continued to appear in Shiloh, because there he revealed himself to Samuel by his word.(O)
