23 有人告訴大衛：“看哪，非利士人正在攻打基伊拉，並且搶掠禾場。” 2 大衛就求問耶和華說：“我可以去擊打這些非利士人嗎？”耶和華對大衛說：“你可以去擊打非利士人，拯救基伊拉。” 3 跟隨大衛的人對他說：“看哪，我們在猶大地這裡尚且懼怕，何況到基伊拉去攻打非利士人的軍兵呢？” 4 於是大衛再求問耶和華。耶和華回答他說：“你只管起來，下到基伊拉去，因為我必把非利士人交在你的手裡。” 5 大衛和跟隨他的人就到基伊拉去，與非利士人爭戰，擄走了他們的牲畜，又在他們中間殺戮多人。這樣，大衛拯救了基伊拉的居民。
6 亞希米勒的兒子亞比亞他逃到基伊拉去見大衛的時候，是手裡帶著以弗得下來的。 7 有人告訴掃羅，大衛到了基伊拉，掃羅就說：“ 神把他交在我的手中了，因為他進了一座有門有閂的城，把自己關閉起來了。” 8 於是掃羅召集眾人去爭戰，要下到基伊拉去，圍困大衛和跟隨他的人。 9 大衛知道掃羅設計害他，就對亞比亞他祭司說：“把以弗得拿來！” 10 大衛說：“耶和華以色列的 神啊！你僕人確實聽見了掃羅想要到基伊拉來，為了我的緣故要毀滅這城。 11 基伊拉人會把我交在掃羅的手裡嗎？掃羅會照著你僕人所聽到的下來嗎？耶和華以色列的 神啊！求你告訴你僕人。”耶和華說：“他必下來。” 12 大衛又說：“基伊拉人會把我和跟隨我的人交在掃羅手裡嗎？”耶和華說：“他們必把你們交出來。” 13 大衛和跟從他的人，約有六百人，就起身離開基伊拉，到處漂泊。有人告訴掃羅，大衛已經逃離了基伊拉，掃羅就不出去了。 14 大衛住在曠野的山寨裡，又住在西弗曠野的山裡。掃羅天天尋索大衛， 神卻不把大衛交在他手裡。
大衛再與約拿單立約
15 大衛懼怕，因為掃羅出來尋索他的命。那時大衛住在西弗曠野的何列斯那裡。 16 掃羅的兒子約拿單起身，到何列斯去見大衛，鼓勵他，使他靠 神堅強起來， 17 對他說：“你不要懼怕！我父親掃羅的手必不能害你。你必要作以色列的王，我要在你以下位居第二，這事連我父親掃羅也知道了。” 18 於是他們二人在耶和華面前立了約。大衛仍住在何列斯，約拿單卻回自己的家去了。
19 西弗人上到基比亞去見掃羅，說：“大衛不是在我們這裡的何列斯的山寨，就是在曠野南邊的哈基拉山上藏著嗎？ 20 王啊，現在請下來，請你隨著你的心願下來，我們必親自把他交在王的手裡。” 21 掃羅說：“願耶和華賜福你們，因為你們關心我。 22 你們要去再確實查看他腳蹤所到的地方，有誰看見他在那裡，因為有人對我說，他非常狡猾。 23 你們要去查看他所有藏身的地方，確定以後再回來見我，我就與你們同去；如果他在本地，我必從猶大的千門萬戶中把他搜出來。”
掃羅在瑪雲曠野追尋大衛
24 於是西弗人起身，在掃羅以先到西弗去了。那時大衛和跟隨他的人卻在瑪雲曠野，就是在荒野南邊的亞拉巴。 25 掃羅和跟隨他的人去尋找大衛。有人告訴大衛，他就下到磐石那裡，留在瑪雲曠野。掃羅聽見了，就在瑪雲曠野追趕大衛。 26 掃羅在山這邊走，大衛和跟隨他的人卻在山那邊走。大衛匆匆忙忙逃避掃羅，掃羅和跟隨他的人卻四面包圍大衛和跟隨他的人，要把他們捉住。 27 那時忽有使者來見掃羅說：“請你趕快回去，因為非利士人來突擊這地。” 28 於是掃羅不再追趕大衛，回去迎戰非利士人。因此這地方被稱為西拉．哈瑪希羅結。 29 大衛從那裡上去，住在隱．基底的山寨裡。（本節在《馬索拉文本》為24:1）

23 一天，大卫得知非利士人正在攻打基伊拉，抢掠麦场， 2 便求问耶和华：“我可以去攻打非利士人吗？”耶和华答道：“你可以去攻打非利士人，营救基伊拉。” 3 大卫的部下却对他说：“我们在犹大这里尚且胆战心惊，何况去基伊拉攻打非利士军队呢！” 4 大卫再求问耶和华，耶和华答道：“到基伊拉去吧，我一定把非利士人交在你手里。” 5 于是，大卫和部下到基伊拉去攻打非利士人，大败敌人，夺取了他们的牲畜，救出基伊拉人。
6 亚希米勒的儿子祭司亚比亚他到基伊拉投奔大卫时，把以弗得也带了去。 7 扫罗得知大卫在基伊拉，就说：“这一次是上帝把他交在我手中了，因为他竟然自投网罗，进入有门有闩的城。” 8 扫罗召集全军准备攻打基伊拉，围困大卫和他的部下。 9 大卫知道了扫罗的计谋，便吩咐祭司亚比亚他把以弗得带来， 10 然后说：“耶和华，以色列的上帝啊，仆人听说扫罗要来毁灭基伊拉，因为我在这里。 11 基伊拉的人会不会把我交给扫罗呢？扫罗是不是像我听说的那样要来这里呢？耶和华，以色列的上帝啊，求你告诉我。”耶和华说：“扫罗一定会来。” 12 大卫又问耶和华：“基伊拉的人会不会把我和我的部下交给扫罗呢？”耶和华说：“他们一定会。” 13 于是，大卫率领自己的六百部下离开基伊拉，到处流浪。扫罗得知大卫已经离开基伊拉，就不去了。
14 大卫住在旷野的堡垒或西弗旷野的山区。扫罗天天搜捕大卫，但上帝没有把大卫交在他的手中。 15 大卫在西弗旷野的何利沙得知扫罗要来杀他。 16 扫罗的儿子约拿单去何利沙见大卫，鼓励大卫坚定地信靠上帝。 17 他对大卫说：“不要害怕，我父亲害不了你。你将做以色列的王，我将做你的宰相。我父亲也明白这一点。” 18 二人在耶和华面前立了约。之后，大卫仍留在何利沙，约拿单则回家去了。

23 Then they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fight against Keilah, and they rob the threshingfloors.
2 Therefore David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the Lord said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.
3 And David's men said unto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?
4 Then David enquired of the Lord yet again. And the Lord answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hand.
5 So David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.
6 And it came to pass, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand.
7 And it was told Saul that David was come to Keilah. And Saul said, God hath delivered him into mine hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that hath gates and bars.
8 And Saul called all the people together to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.
9 And David knew that Saul secretly practised mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring hither the ephod.
10 Then said David, O Lord God of Israel, thy servant hath certainly heard that Saul seeketh to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake.
11 Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? will Saul come down, as thy servant hath heard? O Lord God of Israel, I beseech thee, tell thy servant. And the Lord said, He will come down.
12 Then said David, Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul? And the Lord said, They will deliver thee up.
13 Then David and his men, which were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went whithersoever they could go. And it was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah; and he forbare to go forth.
14 And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand.
15 And David saw that Saul was come out to seek his life: and David was in the wilderness of Ziph in a wood.
16 And Jonathan Saul's son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God.
17 And he said unto him, Fear not: for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee; and that also Saul my father knoweth.
18 And they two made a covenant before the Lord: and David abode in the wood, and Jonathan went to his house.
19 Then came up the Ziphites to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself with us in strong holds in the wood, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon?
20 Now therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of thy soul to come down; and our part shall be to deliver him into the king's hand.
21 And Saul said, Blessed be ye of the Lord; for ye have compassion on me.
22 Go, I pray you, prepare yet, and know and see his place where his haunt is, and who hath seen him there: for it is told me that he dealeth very subtilly.
23 See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hideth himself, and come ye again to me with the certainty, and I will go with you: and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out throughout all the thousands of Judah.
24 And they arose, and went to Ziph before Saul: but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the plain on the south of Jeshimon.
25 Saul also and his men went to seek him. And they told David; wherefore he came down into a rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard that, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.
26 And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain: and David made haste to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men compassed David and his men round about to take them.
27 But there came a messenger unto Saul, saying, Haste thee, and come; for the Philistines have invaded the land.
28 Wherefore Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines: therefore they called that place Selahammahlekoth.
29 And David went up from thence, and dwelt in strong holds at Engedi.
