約拿單與大衛成為摯友
18 大衛對掃羅說完了話，約拿單的心和大衛的心就深相契合。約拿單愛大衛如同愛自己的命。 2 從那天起，掃羅就把大衛留下來，不讓他回到父家去。 3 約拿單與大衛立盟約，因為他愛大衛如同愛自己的命。 4 約拿單把自己身上的外袍脫下來給大衛，又把自己的戰衣、刀、弓和腰帶都給了他。
掃羅妒忌大衛
5 掃羅無論差派大衛到哪裡去，他都去，並且凡事亨通。於是掃羅立他作軍兵的將領。所有的人民和掃羅的臣僕都非常高興。
6 大衛擊殺了那非利士人，與眾人一同回來的時候，婦女們從以色列各城裡出來，唱歌、跳舞、打鼓、歡呼、擊磬迎接掃羅王。 7 婦女們跳舞、歌唱，說：
“掃羅殺死千千！
大衛殺死萬萬！”
8 掃羅非常惱怒，不喜歡這話，就說：“他們給大衛萬萬，只給我千千，就只剩下王位沒給他。” 9 從那天起，掃羅就妒忌大衛。
10 第二天，從 神那裡來的惡鬼降在掃羅身上，他就在家中胡言亂語。大衛照常彈琴，掃羅手裡拿著槍。 11 掃羅把槍擲過去，心裡說：“我要把大衛刺在牆上。”大衛兩次避開了他。 12 掃羅懼怕大衛，因為耶和華與大衛同在，卻離開了掃羅。 13 因此掃羅使大衛離開自己，立他作千夫長，大衛就領導眾民出入。 14 大衛所行的一切都亨通，因為耶和華與他同在。 15 掃羅看見大衛所行的十分亨通，就怕他。 16 但是所有的以色列人和猶大人都愛大衛，因為他領導他們出入。
大衛娶掃羅之女
17 掃羅對大衛說：“我的大女兒米拉在這裡。我要把她賜給你作妻子；只要你作我的勇士，為耶和華爭戰。”原來掃羅心裡說：“我不好親手害他，讓非利士人害他吧。” 18 大衛回答掃羅：“我是誰？我是甚麼身分？我父家在以色列人中算得甚麼？我怎麼作王的女婿呢？” 19 到了掃羅的女兒米拉該嫁給大衛的時候，掃羅卻把她給了米何拉人亞得列作妻子。
20 掃羅的女兒米甲愛大衛。有人把這事告訴掃羅，掃羅就歡喜， 21 心裡想：“我要把米甲給大衛，利用米甲作他的陷阱，好讓非利士人的手害他。”於是掃羅對大衛說：“你今天可以第二次作我的女婿。”
掃羅懼怕大衛
22 掃羅吩咐他的臣僕：“你們要私下對大衛說：‘王喜歡你，他的臣僕也都愛你，現在你要作王的女婿！’” 23 於是掃羅的臣僕把這些話說給大衛聽。大衛說：“你們以為作王的女婿是一件小事嗎？我是個貧窮卑微的人。” 24 掃羅的臣僕把大衛所說的這些話都報告了掃羅。 25 掃羅說：“你們要對大衛這樣說：‘王不要甚麼聘禮，只要一百個非利士人的包皮，好在王的仇敵身上報仇。’”掃羅企圖使大衛死在非利士人的手裡。 26 掃羅的臣僕把這些話告訴了大衛，大衛就樂意作王的女婿。在日期未滿之時， 27 大衛和跟隨他的人就起身出去，在非利士人中擊殺了二百人，把他們的包皮帶回來，滿數交給王，要作王的女婿。於是掃羅把他的女兒米甲給大衛作妻子。 28 掃羅看見耶和華與大衛同在，又知道自己的女兒米甲也愛大衛， 29 就更怕大衛，常常與他為敵。
30 非利士人的領袖常常出征，每逢他們出征，大衛作事都比掃羅所有的臣僕所作的更亨通，所以他的名字極為人尊重。

Saul’s Growing Fear of David
18 After David had finished talking with Saul, Jonathan(A) became one in spirit with David, and he loved(B) him as himself.(C) 2 From that day Saul kept David with him and did not let him return home to his family. 3 And Jonathan made a covenant(D) with David because he loved him as himself. 4 Jonathan took off the robe(E) he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow and his belt.(F)
5 Whatever mission Saul sent him on, David was so successful(G) that Saul gave him a high rank in the army.(H) This pleased all the troops, and Saul’s officers as well.
6 When the men were returning home after David had killed the Philistine, the women came out from all the towns of Israel to meet King Saul with singing and dancing,(I) with joyful songs and with timbrels(J) and lyres. 7 As they danced, they sang:(K)
“Saul has slain his thousands,
and David his tens(L) of thousands.”
8 Saul was very angry; this refrain displeased him greatly. “They have credited David with tens of thousands,” he thought, “but me with only thousands. What more can he get but the kingdom?(M)” 9 And from that time on Saul kept a close(N) eye on David.
10 The next day an evil[a] spirit(O) from God came forcefully on Saul. He was prophesying in his house, while David was playing the lyre,(P) as he usually(Q) did. Saul had a spear(R) in his hand 11 and he hurled it, saying to himself,(S) “I’ll pin David to the wall.” But David eluded(T) him twice.(U)
12 Saul was afraid(V) of David, because the Lord(W) was with(X) David but had departed from(Y) Saul. 13 So he sent David away from him and gave him command over a thousand men, and David led(Z) the troops in their campaigns.(AA) 14 In everything he did he had great success,(AB) because the Lord was with(AC) him. 15 When Saul saw how successful he was, he was afraid of him. 16 But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he led them in their campaigns.(AD)
17 Saul said to David, “Here is my older daughter(AE) Merab. I will give her to you in marriage;(AF) only serve me bravely and fight the battles(AG) of the Lord.” For Saul said to himself,(AH) “I will not raise a hand against him. Let the Philistines do that!”
18 But David said to Saul, “Who am I,(AI) and what is my family or my clan in Israel, that I should become the king’s son-in-law?(AJ)” 19 So[b] when the time came for Merab,(AK) Saul’s daughter, to be given to David, she was given in marriage to Adriel of Meholah.(AL)
20 Now Saul’s daughter Michal(AM) was in love with David, and when they told Saul about it, he was pleased.(AN) 21 “I will give her to him,” he thought, “so that she may be a snare(AO) to him and so that the hand of the Philistines may be against him.” So Saul said to David, “Now you have a second opportunity to become my son-in-law.”
22 Then Saul ordered his attendants: “Speak to David privately and say, ‘Look, the king likes you, and his attendants all love you; now become his son-in-law.’”
23 They repeated these words to David. But David said, “Do you think it is a small matter to become the king’s son-in-law?(AP) I’m only a poor man and little known.”
24 When Saul’s servants told him what David had said, 25 Saul replied, “Say to David, ‘The king wants no other price(AQ) for the bride than a hundred Philistine foreskins, to take revenge(AR) on his enemies.’” Saul’s plan(AS) was to have David fall by the hands of the Philistines.
26 When the attendants told David these things, he was pleased to become the king’s son-in-law. So before the allotted time elapsed, 27 David took his men with him and went out and killed two hundred Philistines and brought back their foreskins. They counted out the full number to the king so that David might become the king’s son-in-law. Then Saul gave him his daughter Michal(AT) in marriage.
28 When Saul realized that the Lord was with David and that his daughter Michal(AU) loved David, 29 Saul became still more afraid(AV) of him, and he remained his enemy the rest of his days.
30 The Philistine commanders continued to go out to battle, and as often as they did, David met with more success(AW) than the rest of Saul’s officers, and his name became well known.

1 And when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, the [a]soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him, as his own soul.
2 And Saul took him that day, and would not let him return to his father’s house.
3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant: for he loved him as his own soul.
4 And Jonathan put off the robe that was upon him, and gave it David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
5 And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself [b]wisely: so that Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.
6 ¶ When they came again, and David returned from the slaughter of the [c]Philistine, the women came out of all cities of Israel singing and dancing to meet king Saul, with timbrels, with instruments of joy, and with rebecks.
7 And the women [d]sang by course in their play, and said, (A)Saul hath slain his thousand, and David his ten thousand.
8 Therefore Saul was exceedingly wroth, and the saying displeased him, and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousand, and to me they have ascribed but a thousand, and what can he have more save the kingdom?
9 Wherefore Saul [e]had an eye on David from that day forward.
10 ¶ And on the morrow, the evil spirit of God came upon Saul, and he [f]prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand like as at other times, and there was a spear in Saul’s hand.
11 And Saul took the spear, and said, I will smite David through to the wall. But David avoided twice out of his presence.
12 And Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with him, and was departed from Saul.
13 Therefore Saul put him from him, and made him a captain over a thousand, and he went [g]out and in before the people.
14 And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways: for the Lord was with him.
15 Wherefore when Saul saw that he was very wise, he was afraid of him.
16 For all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and in before them.
17 ¶ Then Saul said to David, Behold mine eldest daughter Merab, her I will give thee to wife: only be a valiant son unto me, and [h]fight the Lord’s battles: for Saul thought, Mine hand shall not be upon him, but the hand of the Philistines shall be upon him.
18 And David answered Saul, What am I? and what is my life, or the family of my father in Israel, that I should be son-in-law to the King?
19 Howbeit when Merab Saul’s daughter should have been given to David, [i]she was given unto Adriel a Meholathite to wife.
20 ¶ Then Michal Saul’s daughter loved David: and they showed Saul, and the thing pleased him.
21 Therefore Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a [j]snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son-in-law in the one of the twain.
22 And Saul commanded his servants, Speak with David secretly, and say, Behold, the king hath a favor to thee, and all his servants love thee: be now therefore the King’s son-in-law.
23 And Saul’s servants spake these words in the ears of David. And David said, [k]Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king’s son-in-law, seeing that I am a poor man and of small reputation?
24 And then Saul’s servants brought him word again, saying, Such words spake David.
25 And Saul said, This wise shall ye say to David, The king desireth no dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the King’s enemies: for Saul thought to make David fall into the hands of the Philistines.
26 And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well, to be the [l]King’s son-in-law: and the days were not expired.
27 Afterward David arose with his men, and went and slew of the Philistines two hundred men: and David brought their foreskins, and [m]they gave them wholly to the King that he might be the King’s son-in-law: therefore Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.
28 Then Saul saw, and understood that the Lord was with David, and that Michal the daughter of Saul loved him.
29 Then Saul was more and more afraid [n]of David, and Saul became always David’s enemy.
30 And when the Princes of the Philistines went forth, at their going forth [o]David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul, so that his name was much set by.

18 大衛與掃羅說完話後，又見了約拿單，二人一見如故，約拿單像愛自己一樣愛大衛。 2 從那天起，掃羅把大衛留在身邊，不讓他再回父親那裡。 3 約拿單像愛自己一樣愛大衛，他與大衛立了盟約， 4 並把身上的外袍、戰衣、刀、弓和腰帶都送給大衛。 5 無論掃羅派大衛辦什麼事，他都表現出色。掃羅派他做軍隊的將領，民眾和掃羅的臣僕都非常滿意。
6 大衛殺死了非利士人歌利亞，以色列人凱旋歸來，婦女們擊鼓彈琴、載歌載舞地從以色列各城出來迎接掃羅王。 7 她們跳舞歌唱：「掃羅殺死千千，大衛殺死萬萬。」 8 掃羅聽了非常憤怒，說：「她們將萬萬歸功給大衛，將千千歸功給我，只剩我的王位沒有給他了！」 9 掃羅從此對大衛起了嫉妒之心。

12 耶和華離開了掃羅與大衛同在，因而掃羅懼怕大衛。 13 他把大衛調離自己身邊，立為千夫長，讓他領兵作戰。 14 耶和華與大衛同在，因此他事事成功。 15 掃羅看見大衛做事精明，就懼怕他。 16 以色列人和猶大人都愛戴他，因為他帶領他們作戰。
17 掃羅對大衛說：「我要把大女兒米拉嫁給你，但你要英勇作戰，效忠於我，為耶和華爭戰。」掃羅心裡想：「我不要親自動手，我要藉非利士人的手殺他。」 18 大衛說：「我算什麼？我的家族在以色列那麼卑微，我怎麼配做王的女婿呢？」 19 到了婚禮的日子，掃羅卻把米拉嫁給了米何拉人亞得列。 20 掃羅的次女米甲愛上了大衛，掃羅知道了非常高興。 21 他心裡想：「我把這個女兒給大衛，讓他中圈套，好藉非利士人的手殺掉他。」於是，他對大衛說：「你現在還有一次機會做我的女婿。」 22 他又吩咐臣僕，說：「你們私底下告訴大衛，說王很欣賞他，群臣都愛戴他，勸他做王的女婿。」 23 掃羅的臣僕把這話告訴了大衛，大衛卻說：「做王的女婿豈是一件小事呢？我不過是個貧窮卑微的人。」 24 臣僕把這番話回報掃羅， 25 掃羅說：「你們去告訴大衛，就說王只需要一百個非利士人的包皮作聘禮，好向他的敵人報仇。」掃羅想讓大衛死在非利士人的手上。 26 臣僕把這番話告訴了大衛，大衛欣然答應做王的女婿。期限到來之前， 27 大衛和部下出去殺了二百個非利士人，把他們的包皮獻給掃羅，好做王的女婿。掃羅便把女兒米甲嫁給了大衛。 28 掃羅知道耶和華與大衛同在，自己的女兒米甲也愛他， 29 就更加懼怕大衛，終生與大衛為敵。
