7 基列耶琳人就下來，將耶和華的約櫃接上去，放在山上亞比拿達的家中，分派他兒子以利亞撒看守耶和華的約櫃。
2 約櫃在基列耶琳許久。過了二十年，以色列全家都傾向耶和華。 3 撒母耳對以色列全家說：「你們若一心歸順耶和華，就要把外邦的神和亞斯她錄從你們中間除掉，專心歸向耶和華，單單地侍奉他，他必救你們脫離非利士人的手。」 4 以色列人就除掉諸巴力和亞斯她錄，單單地侍奉耶和華。
撒母耳祈禱勝敵
5 撒母耳說：「要使以色列眾人聚集在米斯巴，我好為你們禱告耶和華。」 6 他們就聚集在米斯巴，打水澆在耶和華面前，當日禁食，說：「我們得罪了耶和華！」於是撒母耳在米斯巴審判以色列人。 7 非利士人聽見以色列人聚集在米斯巴，非利士的首領就上來要攻擊以色列人。以色列人聽見，就懼怕非利士人。 8 以色列人對撒母耳說：「願你不住地為我們呼求耶和華我們的神，救我們脫離非利士人的手。」 9 撒母耳就把一隻吃奶的羊羔獻於耶和華做全牲的燔祭，為以色列人呼求耶和華，耶和華就應允他。 10 撒母耳正獻燔祭的時候，非利士人前來要與以色列人爭戰。當日，耶和華大發雷聲，驚亂非利士人，他們就敗在以色列人面前。 11 以色列人從米斯巴出來，追趕非利士人，擊殺他們，直到伯甲的下邊。
12 撒母耳將一塊石頭立在米斯巴和善的中間，給石頭起名叫以便以謝，說：「到如今耶和華都幫助我們。」 13 從此，非利士人就被制伏，不敢再入以色列人的境內。撒母耳做士師的時候，耶和華的手攻擊非利士人。 14 非利士人所取以色列人的城邑，從以革倫直到迦特，都歸以色列人了；屬這些城的四境，以色列人也從非利士人手下收回。那時，以色列人與亞摩利人和好。
15 撒母耳平生做以色列的士師。 16 他每年巡行到伯特利、吉甲、米斯巴，在這幾處審判以色列人。 17 隨後回到拉瑪，因為他的家在那裡；也在那裡審判以色列人，且為耶和華築了一座壇。

撒母耳征服非利士人
2 約櫃在基列·耶琳停留了二十年。那時，全體以色列人都痛悔地尋求耶和華。 3 撒母耳對他們說：「如果你們全心歸向耶和華，就要除掉你們那些外族的神明，包括亞斯她錄神像，一心歸向耶和華，單單事奉祂，祂必從非利士人手中救你們。」 4 於是，他們除掉了巴力和亞斯她錄神像，單單事奉耶和華。
5 撒母耳又說：「你們全體以色列人到米斯巴來，我會為你們向耶和華祈求。」 6 他們就在那裡聚集，打水倒在耶和華面前，並在當天禁食。他們說：「我們得罪了耶和華。」於是，撒母耳在米斯巴做以色列人的士師。 7 非利士人聽說以色列人在米斯巴聚集，他們的首領就率領軍隊來攻打以色列人。以色列人聽見消息後，非常害怕。 8 他們對撒母耳說：「請你為我們不停地呼求我們的上帝耶和華，求祂從非利士人手中拯救我們。」 9 撒母耳把一隻還在吃奶的羊獻給耶和華作全牲燔祭。他為以色列人呼求耶和華，耶和華垂聽了他的祈求。 10 撒母耳正在獻燔祭的時候，非利士人已經逼近了。那天，耶和華向非利士人發出雷霆之聲，使他們陷入一片恐慌，敗在了以色列人手下。 11 以色列人從米斯巴一路追殺他們，直到伯·甲附近。

13 這樣非利士人被征服了，沒有再侵犯以色列人。在撒母耳有生之年，耶和華一直嚴厲地對付非利士人。 14 以色列人收復了從以革倫到迦特之間被非利士人奪去的城邑，並奪回了這些城邑的周邊地區。那時以色列人與亞摩利人和平共處。

7 And the men of Kirjathjearim came, and fetched up the ark of the Lord, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the Lord.
2 And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjathjearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the Lord.
3 And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the Lord with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the Lord, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.
4 Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the Lord only.
5 And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the Lord.
6 And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the Lord, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against the Lord. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.
7 And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.
8 And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto the Lord our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.
9 And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a burnt offering wholly unto the Lord: and Samuel cried unto the Lord for Israel; and the Lord heard him.
10 And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the Lord thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel.
11 And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Bethcar.
12 Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the Lord helped us.
13 So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more into the coast of Israel: and the hand of the Lord was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.
14 And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto Gath; and the coasts thereof did Israel deliver out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.
15 And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.
16 And he went from year to year in circuit to Bethel, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and judged Israel in all those places.
17 And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the Lord.
