在恩典中刚强
2 所以我的儿子啊，你要藉着在基督耶稣里的恩典得以刚强。 2 你要把那些在许多见证人面前[a]从我所听见的，交托给那些忠心可靠、又有能力教导别人的人。
3 做为基督耶稣[b]的好士兵，你要与我[c]同受苦难。 4 凡是当兵的，没有一个会让日常事务纠缠自己，这是为要使那招兵的人喜悦。 5 同样，如果有人要参加竞赛，除非按着规矩去竞赛，否则就不能得冠冕。 6 劳苦做工的农夫，应该先享受果实。 7 你要思考我所说的话，主会在一切事上赐给你悟性。
8 你当记住那从死人中复活的耶稣基督，照着我的福音，他出自大卫的后裔。 9 我为这福音受苦，甚至像罪犯一样被捆绑；然而神的话语[d]是不受捆绑的。 10 所以，我为了那些蒙拣选的人忍受一切，好让他们也能得到那在基督耶稣里的救恩和永恒的荣耀。 11 以下的话是信实的：
我们如果与基督一同死了，就将与他一同活着；
12 我们如果忍耐，就将与他一同做王；
我们如果不认他，他也将不认我们。
13 我们如果不信实，他仍然是信实的，
因为他不能否定自己。
做无愧的工人
14 你要提醒他们这些事，在神[e]面前郑重地劝诫他们：不可在言词上争执，那是毫无益处的，只会败坏听见的人。 15 你要努力地向神显明自己是经过考验的，是无愧的工人，能正确分解真理的话语。 16 至于那些不敬神的空谈，你们要避免，因为说这些话的人[f]将导致更多不敬神的事； 17 他们的话像毒瘤那样将会扩散。这些人中间有希米奈奥和菲利特斯， 18 他们偏离了那有关真理的事，称复活为已经过去的事，结果推翻了一些人的信仰。 19 不过神坚固的根基始终确立，上面有这样的印记：
20 在大户人家，不仅有金器、银器，也有木器、瓦器；虽然有的为了贵重的用处[i]，但有的却为了卑贱的用处[j]。 21 所以，如果有人洁净自己脱离卑贱的事，他就会成为贵重的器皿，被分别为圣，对主人有用，而且是为着一切美善的工作所预备好的。
22 所以你要逃避年轻人的欲望；要与那些以洁净的心求告主的人一同追求公义、信仰、爱心、和平； 23 要拒绝愚拙无知的辩论，因为你知道这些只会引起争斗， 24 而主的奴仆不应该争斗；相反，要温和地对待所有的人，善于教导，忍受恶待， 25 温柔地管教那些反对的人；或许神会赐给这些人悔改的心，到真理的知识当中。 26 这样，那些被魔鬼掳去、随从魔鬼意思的人，就能醒悟过来，脱离魔鬼的网罗。

作基督的精兵
2 所以，我兒啊，你應當在基督耶穌的恩典裡剛強起來， 2 又應當把你在許多見證人面前從我這裡聽見的，交託給那些又忠心又能夠教導別人的人。 3 你應當和我同受磨難，好像基督耶穌的精兵。 4 當兵的人不讓世務纏身，為要使那招兵的人歡喜。 5 競賽的人若不遵守規則，就不能得冠冕。 6 勞力的農夫理當先嘗果實。 7 你要想想我的話，因為凡事主必給你領悟力。
8 你要記得那從死人中復活的耶穌基督，他是大衛的後裔所生的，這就是我所傳的福音。 9 我為了這福音受了磨難，甚至像犯人一樣被捆綁起來；可是， 神的話卻不被捆綁。 10 因此，我為了選民忍受一切，好叫他們也可以得著在基督耶穌裡的救恩，和永遠的榮耀。
11 “我們若與基督同死，就必與他同活；
12 我們若能堅忍，就必與他一同作王；
我們若不認他，他必不認我們；
13 我們縱然不信，他仍然是信實的，

作無愧的工人
14 你要在 神面前把這些事提醒眾人，叮囑他們不要作無益的爭辯；這只能敗壞聽見的人。 15 你應當竭力在 神面前作一個蒙稱許、無愧的工人，正確地講解真理的道。 16 總要遠避世俗的空談，因為這些必會引人進到更不敬虔的地步。 17 他們的話好像毒瘤一樣蔓延；他們當中有許米乃和腓理徒。 18 他們偏離了真道，說復活的事已經過去了，於是毀壞了一些人的信心。 19 然而， 神堅固的根基已經立定，上面刻著這樣的印：“主認識屬於他的人”和“凡稱呼主名的人都應當離開不義”。 20 在富貴人的家裡（“富貴人的家裡”原文作“大房子”），不但有金器、銀器，也有木器、瓦器；有貴重的，也有卑賤的。 21 人若自潔，離開卑賤的事，就必作貴重的器皿，成為聖潔，合主使用，預備行各樣的善事。 22 你應當逃避年輕人的私慾，要和那些以清潔的心求告主的人，一同追求公義、信心、愛心、和平。 23 你要拒絕愚蠢無知的問難；你知道這些事會引起爭論。 24 但主的僕人卻不可爭論，總要待人溫和，善於教導，存心忍耐， 25 以溫柔勸導那些對抗的人，或許 神給他們悔改的心，可以認識真理。 26 他們雖然曾經被魔鬼擄去，隨從他的意思而行，或許也能醒悟過來，脫離魔鬼的陷阱。

2 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
6 The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:
9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
