问候
1 我保罗做上帝的奴仆和耶稣基督的使徒，是为了使上帝拣选的人有信心、明白真理，从而过敬虔的生活， 2 有永生的盼望。这永生是从不说谎的上帝在亘古以前应许的。 3 祂在所定的时候，借着人的传扬将自己的道显明出来。我奉我们救主上帝的命令传扬这道。
4 提多啊，我写信给你，就我们共同的信仰来说，你是我真正的儿子。
愿父上帝和我们的救主基督耶稣赐给你恩典和平安！
长老的资格
5 当初，我把你留在克里特岛，是要你完成未办完的事工，并照我的指示在各城选立长老。 6 做长老的必须无可指责，只有一位妻子，儿女都信主、没有放荡不羁的行为。 7 身为上帝的管家，做监督的必须无可指责，不傲慢，不暴躁，不酗酒，不好斗，不贪财。 8 他必须好客、乐善、自制、正直、圣洁、自律， 9 持守所领受的真道，以便能够以纯正的教导劝勉人，驳倒那些反对的人。
10 因为有许多悖逆之人喜欢空谈，善于欺骗，尤其是那些奉行割礼的人。 11 你一定要堵住他们的口，因为他们为了不义之财教不该教的，误导了别人全家。 12 克里特人自己的一位先知说：“克里特人说谎成性，邪恶如兽，好吃懒做。” 13 这话是真的。因此你要严正地斥责他们，使他们有纯正的信仰， 14 不理会犹太人荒诞的传说和那些违背真理之人的诫律。 15 对洁净的人而言，一切都是洁净的；对污秽不信的人而言，什么都不洁净，连他们的思想和良心都是污秽的。 16 他们自称认识上帝，在行为上却否认祂。他们令人可憎，悖逆成性，一无是处。

1 하나님의 종이며 예수 그리스도의 사도인 나 바울이 이 편지를 쓴다. 나는 하나님께서 택하신 사람들의 믿음을 더욱 굳게 하고, 어떻게 하면 하나님께서 원하시는 대로 살 수 있는지를 보여 주는 진리를 더 잘 알게 해 주려고 사도로 세우심을 받았다. 2 이 믿음과 지식은 하나님의 백성에게 영원한 생명에 대한 희망을 준다. 이 영원한 생명은 결코 거짓말하지 않으시는 하나님께서 영원 전에 이미 우리에게 약속하신 것이다. 3 하나님께서는 당신께서 정해 놓으신 때에 말씀의 선포를 통하여 이 기쁜 소식을 알리셨다. 나는 우리 구세주이신 하나님의 명령으로 그 소식을 알리는 일을 맡았다.
4 나와 같은 믿음 안에 있는 진실된 내 아들 디도에게 이 편지를 쓴다.
아버지 하나님과 우리 구세주 그리스도 예수께로부터 나오는 은혜와 평화가 그대에게 있기를 빈다.
디도가 크레테에서 할 일
5 내가 그대를 크레테에 남겨 둔 까닭은, 그대가 아직 마무리되지 않은 일들을 마무리 짓고, 내가 명한 대로 도시마다 장로들을 뽑아 세우게 하려는 것이었다. 6 장로는 흠잡을 데가 없는 사람이어야 하고, 한 여자만을 아내로 가진 사람이어야 한다. 그의 자녀들은 믿는 사람들이어야 하고, 방탕하다거나 순종하지 않는다는 비난을 받아서는 안 된다. 7 감독은 하나님의 일을 관리하는 사람으로서 흠잡힐 데가 없는 사람이어야 한다. 그는 거만하지 않고, 쉽게 화를 내지 않으며, 술을 즐기지 않으며, 다투기를 좋아하지 않아야 한다. 그리고 부당한 이득을 좇아서도 안 된다. 8 오히려 손님을 잘 대접하고, 선을 사랑하고, 조심스러우면서 듬직하고, 올바르고, 경건하고, 자기 자신을 다스릴 줄 아는 사람이어야 한다. 9 그리고 그는 자기가 배운 진실된 말씀을 굳게 지키는 사람이어야 한다. 그래야 건전한 가르침으로 사람들을 격려하고, 그 가르침에 반대하는 사람들을 책망할 수 있을 것이다.
10 순종하지 않는 사람과, 쓸데없는 이야기를 일삼는 사람과, 다른 사람들을 속이는 사람들이 많이 있다. 특히 할례 받은 사람들 가운데 그런 사람들이 많다. 11 그대는 그들의 입을 막아야 한다. 그들은 가르쳐서는 안 될 것들을 가르침으로써, 여러 집안을 통째로 망쳐놓고 있다. 그들은 부당한 이익을 얻기 위해서 그렇게 한다. 12 바로 그런 크레테 사람들 가운데서, 그들의 예언자라는 한 사람이 이런 말을 한 적이 있다.
“크레테 사람들은 언제나 거짓말쟁이이고
사악한 짐승이고
게으른 먹보들이다.”
13 이 증언은 옳은 말이다. 그러므로 그들이 건전한 믿음을 가지도록, 그들을 엄하게 꾸짖어라. 14 그리고 그들로 하여금, 유대 사람의 꾸며 낸 이야기와 진리를 저버리는 사람들의 명령에 귀를 기울이지 못하게 하여라.
15 깨끗한 사람들에게는 모든 것이 깨끗하다. 그러나 썩은 사람들과 믿지 않는 사람들에게는 깨끗한 것이 하나도 없다. 실은 그들 자신의 정신과 양심이 모두 썩었다. 16 그들은 말로는 하나님을 안다고 하지만, 행동으로는 하나님을 부인하고 있다. 그들은 밉살스럽고 하나님의 말씀에 순종하지 않으며 좋은 일이라고는 할 수 없는 사람들이다.

1 Paul, a servant of God(A) and an apostle(B) of Jesus Christ to further the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth(C) that leads to godliness(D)— 2 in the hope of eternal life,(E) which God, who does not lie,(F) promised before the beginning of time,(G) 3 and which now at his appointed season(H) he has brought to light(I) through the preaching entrusted to me(J) by the command of God(K) our Savior,(L)
4 To Titus,(M) my true son(N) in our common faith:
Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.(O)
Appointing Elders Who Love What Is Good(P)
5 The reason I left you in Crete(Q) was that you might put in order what was left unfinished and appoint[a] elders(R) in every town, as I directed you. 6 An elder must be blameless,(S) faithful to his wife, a man whose children believe[b] and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. 7 Since an overseer(T) manages God’s household,(U) he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.(V) 8 Rather, he must be hospitable,(W) one who loves what is good,(X) who is self-controlled,(Y) upright, holy and disciplined. 9 He must hold firmly(Z) to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine(AA) and refute those who oppose it.
Rebuking Those Who Fail to Do Good
10 For there are many rebellious people, full of meaningless talk(AB) and deception, especially those of the circumcision group.(AC) 11 They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households(AD) by teaching things they ought not to teach—and that for the sake of dishonest gain. 12 One of Crete’s own prophets(AE) has said it: “Cretans(AF) are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.”[c] 13 This saying is true. Therefore rebuke(AG) them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith(AH) 14 and will pay no attention to Jewish myths(AI) or to the merely human commands(AJ) of those who reject the truth.(AK) 15 To the pure, all things are pure,(AL) but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure.(AM) In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted.(AN) 16 They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him.(AO) They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.(AP)
