夫妻之道
3 1-2 照樣，作妻子的要順服丈夫。這樣，即使丈夫不信從真道，也會因為看見妻子貞潔和敬虔的品行而被無聲地感化。 3 你們不要注重外表的妝飾，像編頭髮、戴金飾或穿華麗的衣服， 4 要以溫柔、嫺靜這些永不褪色的內在美為妝飾，這是上帝所看重的。 5 從前那些仰賴上帝的聖潔婦女，都是以這些來妝飾自己，並順服自己的丈夫， 6 正如撒拉順服亞伯拉罕，稱他為主人。所以，如果你們做對的事，不怕恐嚇，就是撒拉的女兒。
7 你們作丈夫的也一樣，要按情理[a]與妻子共同生活，因為她們比你們軟弱。要敬重她們，因為她們和你們一同承受上帝施恩賜下的生命。這樣，你們的禱告就可以暢通無阻了。
要為義受苦
8 總而言之，你們要同心合意，互相關懷，彼此相愛，仁慈謙虛。 9 不要以惡報惡，以辱駡還辱駡，反要祝福對方，這是你們蒙召的目的，好叫你們得到祝福。 10 因為聖經上說：
「若有人熱愛生命，
渴望幸福，
就要舌頭不出惡言，
嘴唇不說詭詐的話。
11 要棄惡行善，竭力追求和睦。
12 因為主的眼睛看顧義人，
祂的耳朵垂聽他們的祈求。
但主必嚴懲作惡之人。」
13 如果你們熱心行善，有誰會害你們呢？ 14 就算你們為義受苦，也是有福的。不要害怕別人的恐嚇[b]，也不要驚慌， 15 要心裡尊基督為主。如果有人問起你們心中的盼望，你們要隨時準備答覆， 16 但態度要溫和恭敬，存無愧的良心。這樣，那些對你們因信基督而有的好品行妄加誣衊的人會自覺羞愧。 17 如果上帝的旨意是要你們因行善而受苦，這也總比你們因作惡而受苦強。
18 因為基督也曾一次為罪受苦，以無罪之身代替不義之人，為要領你們到上帝面前。祂的肉體雖被處死，但祂藉著聖靈復活了。 19 祂還藉著聖靈向那些監獄中的靈魂傳道， 20 他們就是從前在挪亞造方舟、上帝耐心等候人們悔改的時代中那些不肯信的人。當時進入方舟，從洪水中得救的人很少，只有八個人。 21 這水代表的洗禮現在藉著耶穌基督的復活也拯救了你們。這洗禮要表明的不是除掉肉體的污穢，而是求在上帝面前有無愧的良心。 22 基督已經升到天上，坐在上帝的右邊，眾天使、掌權的、有能力的都服從了祂。

3 ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਪਤਨੀਓ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਰਹੋ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਫ਼ੇਰ ਜੇਕਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਉਦਾਰ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਦੇ ਉਸ ਇੱਕ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਆਖੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਿੱਤ ਜਾਣਗੇ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਕਾਰ ਯੋਗ ਹੈ। 3 ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਾਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ, ਗਹਿਣੇ ਜਾਂ ਵੱਧੀਆ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ। 4 ਸਗੋਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਉਸ ਕੋਮਲਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਆਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹੋਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਕਦੀ ਵੀ ਫ਼ਿੱਕੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਵੇਗੀ।
5 ਅਤੀਤ ਵਿੱਚ, ਇਸੇ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ, ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਔਰਤਾਂ, ਆਪਣੀ ਆਸ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਵੀਕਾਰਿਆ ਸੀ। 6 ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰਾਹ ਵਰਗੀਆਂ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੱਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਸਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਲਕ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ। ਇਸੇ ਲਈ ਔਰਤੋ, ਜੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਵੀ ਉਹੀ ਕਰੋ ਜੋ ਸਹੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਭੈਭੀਤ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੋ, ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਵੀ ਸਾਰਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਸਲੀ ਬੱਚੀਆਂ ਹੋਵੋਂਗੀਆਂ।
7 ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਤੀਓ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਪਤਨੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਹਿਮਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪਤਨੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ। ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਹਨ। ਉਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਅਸੀਸ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਸੀਸਾਂ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।

8 ਸਮਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ, ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਕਿ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਸਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇੱਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰੋ, ਇੱਕ ਦੂਸਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਭੈਣਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰੋ। ਦਿਆਲੂ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਮ੍ਰ ਬਣੋ। 9 ਜਿਹੜਾ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਬੁਰਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਬਦਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਬੁਰਾ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ। ਜਾਂ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਮੰਦਾ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਬਦਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਮੰਦਾ ਨਾ ਬੋਲੋ। ਪਰ ਉਸ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਅਸੀਸ ਦਿਉ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਵੀ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਅਸੀਸਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸੱਦੇ ਗਏ ਸੀ। 10 ਪੋਥੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਕਥਨ ਹੈ,
“ਉਹ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਇੱਕ ਖੁਸ਼ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਤੀਤ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਅਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਦਿਨ ਬਿਤਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਦਾ ਬੋਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ
ਅਤੇ, ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਬੁਲ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ।
11 ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਲੱਭਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ
ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਖਤ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
12 ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਚੰਗੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ
ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਖਿਲਾਫ਼ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਬਦੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।” (A)
13 ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਚੰਗਿਆਈ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਖਤ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਕਰੋਂਗੇ, ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਵੇਗਾ। 14 ਜਦੋਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਹੀ ਕਰੋਂ ਜੋ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ, ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖ ਭੋਗਣਾ ਪਵੇ। ਜੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਵਾਪਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਧੰਨ ਹੋ। “ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਾ ਡਰੋ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਧਮਕਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਰੇਸ਼ਾਨ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੋ।” [a] 15 ਸਗੋਂ ਮਸੀਹ ਨੂੰ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਰਕੇ, ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਮੰਨੋ। ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਉਸ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਵਾਬ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਰਹੋ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਆਸ ਦੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਪੁੱਛਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜੀ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਹੈ। 16 ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਮਲਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਨਾਲ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿਉ। ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਇਹ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਹੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ। ਜੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਰੋਂਗੇ, ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਲੋਕ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਸੀਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਮੰਦਾ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦਾ ਹੋਣਗੇ।
17 ਬਦੀ ਕਰਕੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਝੱਲਣ ਨਾਲੋਂ, ਚੰਗਿਆਈ ਕਰਕੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਝੱਲਣਾ ਬੇਹਤਰ ਹੈ, ਜੇਕਰ ਇਹੀ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
18 ਮਸੀਹ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਝੱਲਿਆ
ਅਤੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇੱਕ ਹੀ ਵਾਰ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਲਈ ਮਰਿਆ।
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ
ਪਰ ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਮਰਿਆ। ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਨਜ਼ਦੀਕ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਲਈ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਉਸਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ
ਪਰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਿਉਂਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ।
19 ਫ਼ੇਰ ਆਤਮਾ ਵਿੱਚ, ਉਹ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕੈਦ ਵਿੱਚਲੇ ਆਤਮਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ। 20 ਇਹ ਆਤਮੇ ਉਹੀ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਨੂਹ ਦੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਣ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ। ਜਦੋਂ ਨੂਹ ਕਿਸ਼ਤੀ ਬਣਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਬਰ ਨਾਲ ਇੰਤਜ਼ਾਰ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਥੋੜੇ ਜਿਹੇ ਲੋਕ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁਲ ਅੱਠ ਸਨ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕਿਸ਼ਤੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਬਚਾਏ ਜਾ ਸੱਕੇ। 21 ਉਹ ਪਾਣੀ ਉਸ ਬਪਤਿਸਮੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਹੁਣ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਬਪਤਿਸਮੇ ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਲ ਲਾਹੁਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਗੋਂ ਇਹ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਬਚਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਯਿਸੂ ਮਸੀਹ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਜਿਵਾਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। 22 ਹੁਣ ਯਿਸੂ ਸਵਰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੱਲਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਸੱਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਦੂਤਾਂ, ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

3 (A)In the same way, you wives, (B)be subject to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be (C)won over without a word by the behavior of their wives, 2 as they observe your pure [a]and respectful behavior. 3 (D)Your adornment must not be merely the external—braiding the hair, wearing gold jewelry, or putting on apparel; 4 but it should be (E)the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God. 5 For in this way the holy women of former times, (F)who hoped in God, also used to adorn themselves, being subject to their own husbands, 6 just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, (G)calling him lord; and you have proved to be her children if you do what is right [b](H)without being frightened by any fear.
7 (I)You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with [c](J)someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
8 [d]To sum up, (K)all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, [e](L)loving, (M)compassionate, and (N)humble; 9 (O)not returning evil for evil or (P)insult for insult, but giving a (Q)blessing instead; for (R)you were called for the very purpose that you would (S)inherit a blessing. 10 For,
“(T)The one who desires life, to love and see good days,
Must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.
11 (U)He must turn away from evil and do good;
He must seek peace and pursue it.
12 (V)For the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous,
And His ears attend to their prayer,
But the face of the Lord is against evildoers.”
13 (W)And who is [f]there to harm you if you prove zealous for what is good? 14 But even if you should (X)suffer for the sake of righteousness, (Y)you [g]are blessed. 3 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:
6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
8 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
11 Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
13 And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?
14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.
18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.
