6 以色列人哪，当听耶和华的话：“要起来，向山岭争辩，使冈陵听你的话！ ²山岭和地永久的根基啊，要听耶和华争辩的话，因为耶和华要与他的百姓争辩，与以色列争论。 ³我的百姓啊，我向你做了什么呢？我在什么事上使你厌烦？你可以对我证明。 ⁴我曾将你从埃及地领出来，从做奴仆之家救赎你，我也差遣摩西、亚伦和米利暗在你前面行。 ⁵我的百姓啊，你们当追念摩押王巴勒所设的谋和比珥的儿子巴兰回答他的话，并你们从什亭到吉甲所遇见的事，好使你们知道耶和华公义的作为。”

责民愚顽以为献祭可蒙主悦

⁶我朝见耶和华，在至高神面前跪拜，当献上什么呢？岂可献一岁的牛犊为燔祭吗？ ⁷耶和华岂喜悦千千的公羊，或是万万的油河吗？我岂可为自己的罪过献我的长子吗？为心中的罪恶献我身所生的吗？ ⁸世人哪！耶和华已指示你何为善。他向你所要的是什么呢？只要你行公义，好怜悯，存谦卑的心，与你的神同行。

责其言行不义

⁹耶和华向这城呼叫，智慧人必敬畏他的名。“你们当听是谁派定刑杖的惩罚。 ¹⁰恶人家中不仍有非义之财和可恶的小升斗吗？ ¹¹我若用不公道的天平和囊中诡诈的法码，岂可算为清洁呢？ ¹²城里的富户满行强暴，其中的居民也说谎言，口中的舌头是诡诈的。 ¹³因此我击打你，使你的伤痕甚重，使你因你的罪恶荒凉。

责其从邪

¹⁴“你要吃却吃不饱，你的虚弱必显在你中间。你必挪去却不得救护，所救护的我必交给刀剑。 ¹⁵你必撒种却不得收割，踹橄榄却不得油抹身，踹葡萄却不得酒喝。 ¹⁶因为你守暗利的恶规，行亚哈家一切所行的，顺从他们的计谋。因此，我必使你荒凉，使你的居民令人嗤笑，你们也必担当我民的羞辱。”

The Lord’s Complaint

6 Now hear what the Lord says:

“Get up; plead your case in front of the mountains.
    Let the hills hear your story.
²Mountains, listen to the Lord’s complaint.
    Foundations of the earth, listen to the Lord.
The Lord has a complaint against his people.
    He will prove that Israel is wrong.”

³The Lord says, “My people, did I do something wrong to you?
    How did I make you tired of me?
    Tell me.
⁴I brought you from the land of Egypt.
    I freed you from slavery.
    I sent Moses, Aaron and Miriam to you.
⁵My people, remember
    the evil plans of Balak king of Moab.
    Remember what Balaam son of Beor told Balak.
Remember what happened from Acacia to Gilgal.
    Then you will know the Lord does what is right!”

⁶You say, “What can I bring with me
    when I come before the Lord?
What can I bring
    when I bow before God on high?
Should I come before the Lord with burnt offerings,
    with year-old calves?
⁷Will the Lord be pleased with 1,000 male sheep?
    Will he be pleased with 10,000 rivers of oil?
Should I give my first child for the evil I have done?
    Should I give my very own child for my sin?”
⁸The Lord has told you what is good.
    He has told you what he wants from you:
Do what is right to other people.
    Love being kind to others.
    And live humbly, trusting your God.

⁹The voice of the Lord shouts to the city.
    The wise person honors the Lord.
So pay attention to the rod of punishment.
    Pay attention to the One who threatens to punish.
¹⁰Can the Lord forget that the wicked still hide
    treasures they have stolen?
    Do they still cheat others?
    I curse their false measure!
¹¹Can I forgive people who cheat others
    with wrong weights and scales?
¹²The rich men in the city
    still do cruel things.
The people still tell lies.
    They do not tell the truth.
¹³So I have started to punish you.
    I will destroy you because of your sins.
¹⁴You will eat, but you won’t become full.
    You will still be hungry and empty.
You will store up but save nothing.
    What you store up the sword will destroy.
¹⁵You will plant,
    but you won’t harvest.
You will squeeze your olives.
    But you won’t get any oil from them to put on your skin.
You will crush the grapes.
    But you will not drink the wine.
¹⁶This is because you obey the wicked laws of King Omri.
    You do all the evil that Ahab’s family does.
    You follow their teachings.
So I will let you be destroyed.
    The people in your city will be laughed at.
    Other nations will make fun of you.

Micah 6

God Pleads with Israel

6 Hear now what the Lord says:

“Arise, plead your case before the mountains,
And let the hills hear your voice.
²^(A)Hear, O you mountains, ^(B)the Lord’s complaint,
And you strong foundations of the earth;
For ^(C)the Lord has a complaint against His people,
And He will ^[a]contend with Israel.

³“O My people, what ^(D)have I done to you?
And how have I ^(E)wearied you?
Testify against Me.
⁴^(F)For I brought you up from the land of Egypt,
I redeemed you from the house of bondage;
And I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.
⁵O My people, remember now
What ^(G)Balak king of Moab counseled,
And what Balaam the son of Beor answered him,
From ^[b]Acacia Grove to Gilgal,
That you may know ^(H)the righteousness of the Lord.”

⁶With what shall I come before the Lord,
And bow myself before the High God?
Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings,
With calves a year old?
⁷^(I)Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams,
Ten thousand ^(J)rivers of oil?
^(K)Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression,
^[c]The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

⁸He has ^(L)shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But ^(M)to do justly,
To love ^[d]mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God?

Punishment of Israel’s Injustice

⁹The Lord’s voice cries to the city—
Wisdom shall see Your name:

“Hear the rod!
Who has appointed it?
¹⁰Are there yet the treasures of wickedness
In the house of the wicked,
And the short measure that is an abomination?
¹¹Shall I count pure those with ^(N)the wicked scales,
And with the bag of deceitful weights?
¹²For her rich men are full of ^(O)violence,
Her inhabitants have spoken lies,
And ^(P)their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

¹³“Therefore I will also ^(Q)make you sick by striking you,
By making you desolate because of your sins.
¹⁴^(R)You shall eat, but not be satisfied;
^[e]Hunger shall be in your midst.
You may carry some away,^[f] but shall not save them;
And what you do rescue I will give over to the sword.

¹⁵“You shall ^(S)sow, but not reap;
You shall tread the olives, but not anoint yourselves with oil;
And make sweet wine, but not drink wine.
¹⁶For the statutes of ^(T)Omri are ^(U)kept;
All the works of Ahab’s house are done;
And you walk in their counsels,
That I may make you a ^[g]desolation,
And your inhabitants a hissing.
Therefore you shall bear the ^(V)reproach of ^[h]My people.”
