要讨 神喜悦
4 此外，弟兄们，我们在主耶稣里求你们，劝你们，你们既然接受了我们的教训，知道应该怎样行事为人，并且怎样讨 神喜悦，就要照你们现在所行的更进一步。 2 我们凭着主耶稣传给你们的是甚么命令，你们是知道的。 3 神的旨意是要你们圣洁，远避淫行； 4 要你们各人晓得怎样用圣洁尊贵的方法保守自己的身体（“身体”原文作“器皿”）； 5 不要放纵邪情私欲，像那些不认识 神的外族人一样； 6 谁也不要在这事上越轨，占弟兄的便宜，因为这一类的事，主必报应。这是我们从前告诉过你们，又严严警戒过你们的。 7 神呼召我们，不是要我们沾染污秽，而是要我们圣洁。 8 所以那弃绝这命令的，不是弃绝人，而是弃绝把他自己的圣灵赐给你们的那位 神。
9 论到弟兄相爱，用不着人写甚么给你们，因为你们自己受了 神的教导，要彼此相爱。 10 其实，你们向全马其顿所有的弟兄，已经这样行了。但是，弟兄们，我们劝你们要更加彼此相爱； 11 又要立志过安静的生活，办自己的事，亲手作工，正如我们从前吩咐过你们， 12 使你们行事为人可以得到外人的尊敬，自己也不会有甚么缺乏了。
在主里睡了的人必先复活
13 弟兄们，论到睡了的人，我们不愿意你们不知道，免得你们忧伤，像那些没有盼望的人一样。 14 我们若信耶稣死了，又复活了，照样，也应该相信那些靠着耶稣已经睡了的人， 神必定把他们和耶稣一同带来。
15 我们现在照着主的话告诉你们：我们这些活着存留到主再来的人，绝不能在那些睡了的人以先。 16 因为主必亲自从天降临，那时，有发令的声音，有天使长的呼声，还有 神的号声，那些在基督里死了的人必先复活； 17 然后，我们还活着存留的人，必和他们一同被提到云里，在空中与主相会。这样，我们就要和主常常同在。 18 所以，你们应该用这些话彼此劝慰。

4 兄弟们，现在我要告诉你们另外一些事。你们做为主耶稣的信徒，我们请求和督促过你们并教导过你们如何生活会令上帝喜悦，（你们也的确在这样做），现在我们请求你们再接再励。 2 你们知道，我们是通过主耶稣的权威给你们下达指示的。 3 这是上帝的意愿，他要你们圣洁，摆脱不道德的性行为。 4 他要你们每一个人都学会用圣洁和荣誉的方式来支配自己的身体， 5 而不要像不知道上帝的异教徒那样，放纵情欲。 6 他还希望你们所有的人，在这方面不要做对不起或欺骗兄弟的事情。正像我们警告过你们的那样，上帝将惩罚犯这种罪的人。 7 因为上帝召唤我们不是要我们生活在罪孽之中，而是要我们圣洁。 8 所以，抵制这些教导的人，不是在抵制人而是在抵制赋予你们圣灵的上帝。

主即将来临
13 兄弟们，我们希望你们了解那些死者的情况，免得你们像其余没有盼望的人一样悲伤和失望。 14 既然我们相信耶稣死后又复活了，那么，我们也相信上帝将会使那些信仰过耶稣的死者与他一起复活。 15 我们现在告诉你们来自主的信息，当主再来时，我们这些活着的人绝对不会比那些死者先与主同在。 16 当响亮的命令伴随着大天使的声音和上帝的号角发出时，主将亲自从天而降。那些信仰过主的死者将会首先复活， 17 然后我们这些活着的人才会与他一起被升到云端，在空中与主相会。从此我们将与主永远同在。 18 用这些话互相鼓励吧。

4 το λοιπον ουν αδελφοι ερωτωμεν υμας και παρακαλουμεν εν κυριω ιησου καθως παρελαβετε παρ ημων το πως δει υμας περιπατειν και αρεσκειν θεω ινα περισσευητε μαλλον
2 οιδατε γαρ τινας παραγγελιας εδωκαμεν υμιν δια του κυριου ιησου
3 τουτο γαρ εστιν θελημα του θεου ο αγιασμος υμων απεχεσθαι υμας απο της πορνειας
4 ειδεναι εκαστον υμων το εαυτου σκευος κτασθαι εν αγιασμω και τιμη
5 μη εν παθει επιθυμιας καθαπερ και τα εθνη τα μη ειδοτα τον θεον
6 το μη υπερβαινειν και πλεονεκτειν εν τω πραγματι τον αδελφον αυτου διοτι εκδικος ο κυριος περι παντων τουτων καθως και προειπαμεν υμιν και διεμαρτυραμεθα
7 ου γαρ εκαλεσεν ημας ο θεος επι ακαθαρσια αλλ εν αγιασμω
8 τοιγαρουν ο αθετων ουκ ανθρωπον αθετει αλλα τον θεον τον και δοντα το πνευμα αυτου το αγιον εις ημας
9 περι δε της φιλαδελφιας ου χρειαν εχετε γραφειν υμιν αυτοι γαρ υμεις θεοδιδακτοι εστε εις το αγαπαν αλληλους
10 και γαρ ποιειτε αυτο εις παντας τους αδελφους τους εν ολη τη μακεδονια παρακαλουμεν δε υμας αδελφοι περισσευειν μαλλον

13 ου θελω δε υμας αγνοειν αδελφοι περι των κεκοιμημενων ινα μη λυπησθε καθως και οι λοιποι οι μη εχοντες ελπιδα
14 ει γαρ πιστευομεν οτι ιησους απεθανεν και ανεστη ουτως και ο θεος τους κοιμηθεντας δια του ιησου αξει συν αυτω
15 τουτο γαρ υμιν λεγομεν εν λογω κυριου οτι ημεις οι ζωντες οι περιλειπομενοι εις την παρουσιαν του κυριου ου μη φθασωμεν τους κοιμηθεντας

4 Therefore, brethren, from henceforward we pray you, and beseech in the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us, how it behooveth you to go and to please God, so walk ye, that ye abound more.
2 For ye know what commandments I have given to you by the Lord Jesus.
3 For this is the will of God, your holiness, that ye abstain you from fornication.
4 That each of you know how to wield his vessel in holiness, and honour;
5 not in passion of lust, as heathen men that know not God.
6 And that no man over-go, neither deceive his brother, in chaffering. For the Lord is venger of all these things, as we before-said to you, and have witnessed.
7 For God called not us into uncleanness, but into holiness.
8 Therefore he that despiseth these things, despiseth not man, but God, that also gave his Holy Spirit in us.
9 But of the charity of brotherhood we had no need to write to you; ye yourselves have learned of God, that ye love together;
10 [and] for ye do that into all brethren in all Macedonia. And, brethren, we pray you, that ye abound more;
11 and take keep, that ye be quiet; and that ye do your need [and give work, or busyness, that ye be quiet, and do your need], and that ye work with your [own] hands, as we have commanded to you;
12 and that ye wander honestly to them that be withoutforth, and that of no man ye desire any thing [and that of no man's ye desire any thing].
13 For, brethren, we will not, that ye not know of men that die [Forsooth, brethren, we will not you to unknow of men sleeping, or dying], that ye be not sorrowful, as [and] others that have not hope.
14 For if we believe, that Jesus was dead, and rose again, so God shall lead with him them that be dead by Jesus [so and God shall lead with him them that slept, or died, by Jesus].
15 And we say this thing to you in the word of the Lord, that we that live, that be left in the coming of the Lord, shall not come before them that be dead. [Soothly this thing we say to you in the word of the Lord, that we that live, that be residue, or left, in the coming of the Lord, shall not come before them that slept, or died.]
16 For the Lord himself shall come down from heaven, in the commandment, and in the voice of an archangel [in the commanding, and in the voice of the archangel], and in the trump of God; and the dead men that be in Christ, shall rise again first.
17 Afterward we that live, that be left, shall be snatched (up) together with them in clouds, meeting Christ in the air; and so evermore we shall be with the Lord.
18 Therefore be ye comforted together in these words. [Therefore comfort ye together in these words.]
