New International Version
2 We had previously suffered(A) and been treated outrageously in Philippi,(B) as you know, but with the help of our God we dared to tell you his gospel in the face of strong opposition.(C) 3 For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives,(D) nor are we trying to trick you.(E) 4 On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel.(F) We are not trying to please people(G) but God, who tests our hearts.(H)
1 Thessalonians 2:2-4
King James Version
2 But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention.
3 For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:
4 But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.
