5 从人间选出来的大祭司，都是受委任代表人办理与上帝有关的事，为人的罪向上帝献上礼物和赎罪祭。 2 他能体谅那些无知和迷失的人，因为他自己也有人性的软弱。 3 所以，他不但要为众人的罪献祭，也要为自己的罪献祭。 4 没有人能自取这大祭司的尊荣，只有像亚伦一样蒙上帝呼召的人才可以做大祭司。

5 同样，基督也没有自取荣耀做大祭司，是上帝对祂说：

“你是我的儿子，
我今日成为你父亲。”

6 在圣经的另一处，上帝又说：

“你照麦基洗德的模式永远做祭司。”

7 基督在世为人的时候，曾经声泪俱下地祈求能救祂脱离死亡的上帝。祂因为敬虔而蒙了应允。 8 基督虽然是上帝的儿子，仍然从所受的苦难中学习了顺服。 9 祂既然达到了纯全的地步，就成了永恒救恩的源头，使所有顺服祂的人都得到拯救。 10 上帝照着麦基洗德的模式立祂做大祭司。

信徒要长进

11 关于这方面的事，我们还有很多话要说，但因为你们已经听不进去，很难向你们解释。 12 按你们学习的时间来算，你们本该做别人的老师了，可惜你们还需要别人向你们传授上帝话语的基本道理，成了不能吃干粮、只能吃奶的人。 13 因为只能吃奶的人还是婴孩，不熟习仁义的道理。 14 干粮是给成年人吃的，他们的心思历经锻炼，能够分辨善恶。

5 모든 유대 사람 대제사장은 사람들 가운데서 뽑힙니다. 그는 사람들이 하나님을 위하여 해야 할 일을 돕는 일을 맡은 사람입니다. 그는 예물과 죄를 위한 희생 제물[a]을 바쳐야 합니다. 2 그는, 자신이 연약하기 때문에, 무지해서 곁길로 빠지는 사람들을 너그럽게 대할 수 있습니다. 3 그리고 그 연약함 때문에 백성의 죄를 위해서뿐만 아니라 자신의 죄를 위해서도 희생 제물을 드려야 합니다.

4 어느 누구도 자기 스스로 대제사장이 되는 영광을 얻을 수 없습니다. 누구나 아론[b]처럼 하나님의 부르심을 받아야만 대제사장이 될 수 있습니다. 5 그리스도께서도 스스로 대제사장이 되는 영광을 차지하신 것이 아닙니다. 하나님께서 그리스도께 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다.

“너는 내 아들이다. 오늘 내가 너를 낳았다.”(A)

6 그리고 다른 곳에서는 이렇게 말씀하십니다.

“너는 멜기세덱[c]과 같은 영원한 대제사장이 될 것이다.”(B)

7 예수께서는 이 세상에 사시는 동안에, 당신을 죽음에서 구해 주실 수 있는 하나님께 눈물을 흘리며 큰 소리로 기도하고 간절히 빌었습니다. 하나님께서는, 그분이 하나님을 두려워하며 복종하는 것을 보시고, 그분의 기도를 들어주셨습니다. 8 그분은 비록 하나님의 아드님이셨지만, 고통을 겪음으로써 순종하는 것을 배웠습니다. 9 그분은 그렇게 하여 완전한 분이 되셨습니다. 그리고 그분께 순종하는 모든 사람이 그분 때문에 영원한 구원을 얻게 되었습니다.[d] 10 그리고 하나님께서는 그분을 멜기세덱의 뒤를 잇는 대제사장으로 세우셨습니다.

떨어져 나가지 않도록 조심하라

11 멜기세덱을 두고서는 하고 싶은 말이 많으나, 그것을 말로 설명하기가 어렵습니다. 여러분이 듣고 깨닫는 일에 너무 느리기 때문입니다. 12 여러분은 지금쯤은 선생이 되어 있어야 할 사람들입니다. 그런데 아직도 하나님의 가르침 가운데서도 가장 기초적인 것들을 다시 배워야 할 처지입니다. 단단한 음식이 아니라 젖을 먹어야 할 형편입니다! 13 젖을 먹는 사람은 아직 어린아이여서 무엇이 옳은 일인지 잘 모릅니다. 14 그러나 단단한 음식은 영적으로 성숙한 사람들을 위한 음식입니다. 그들은 끊임없는 실천으로 자신들을 훈련하여 선과 악을 가릴 수 있습니다.

5 Every high priest is selected from among the people and is appointed to represent the people in matters related to God,(A) to offer gifts and sacrifices(B) for sins.(C) 2 He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray,(D) since he himself is subject to weakness.(E) 3 This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people.(F) 4 And no one takes this honor on himself, but he receives it when called by God, just as Aaron was.(G)

5 In the same way, Christ did not take on himself the glory(H) of becoming a high priest.(I) But God said(J) to him,

“You are my Son;
    today I have become your Father.”[a](K)

6 And he says in another place,

“You are a priest forever,
    in the order of Melchizedek.(L)”[b](M)

7 During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions(N) with fervent cries and tears(O) to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard(P) because of his reverent submission.(Q) 8 Son(R) though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered(S) 9 and, once made perfect,(T) he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him 10 and was designated by God to be high priest(U) in the order of Melchizedek.(V)

Warning Against Falling Away(W)

11 We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. 12 In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths(X) of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!(Y) 13 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant,(Z) is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14 But solid food is for the mature,(AA) who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.(AB)

Qualifications for the Priesthood

5 For every high priest selected from among men is appointed to officiate on their behalf[a] in matters relating to God, that is, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2 He can deal gently with people who are ignorant and easily deceived, since he himself is subject to weakness. 3 For that reason he is obligated to offer sacrifices for his own sins as well as for those of the people. 4 No one takes this honor upon himself but he is called to it by God, just as Aaron was.

The Messiah’s Qualifications as High Priest

5 In the same way, the Messiah[b] did not take upon himself the glory of being a high priest. No, it was God who said[c] to him,

“You are my Son.
    Today I have become your Father.”[d]

6 As he also says in another place,

“You are a priest forever
    according to the order of Melchizedek.”[e]

7 As a mortal man,[f] he offered up prayers and appeals with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his devotion to God. 8 Son though he was, he learned obedience through his sufferings 9 and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him, 10 having been designated by God to be a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.

You Still Need Someone to Teach You

11 We have much to say about this,[g] but it is difficult to explain because you have become too lazy to understand. 12 In fact, though by now you should be teachers, you still need someone to teach you the basic truths of God’s word.[h] You have become people who need milk instead of solid food. 13 For everyone who lives on milk is still a baby and does not yet know the difference between right and wrong.[i] 14 But solid food is for mature people, whose minds are trained by practice to distinguish good from evil.
