舊約的事奉
9 這樣，第一個約[a]也包括了事奉禮的規定和地上的聖所， 2 因為有預備好的會幕：第一間裡有燈臺、桌子和陳設餅，這叫做聖所； 3 會幕第二層幔子後面，叫做至聖所， 4 裡面有金香壇和四周包金的約櫃；櫃裡有盛著嗎哪的金罐、亞倫那根發過芽的杖和兩塊約版； 5 約櫃上方有榮耀的基路伯，遮蔽著施恩座[b]。關於這些，現在就不一一細說了。
6 既然這些東西都這樣預備好了，祭司們就常常進入第一間會幕行事奉禮。 7 至於第二間會幕，只有大祭司一年進去一次，沒有不帶著血的；這血是為自己和子民無意中犯的罪所獻上的。 8 聖靈指明這一點：只要第一間會幕還存在，進入至聖所的道路就還沒有顯明出來。 9 這會幕是現今時代的一個象徵，在這裡所獻上的禮物和祭物，並不能使事奉者的良心得以完全， 10 因為這些只是關於飲食和各種洗淨禮，是屬肉體的規定，一直實施到更新的時候為止。
新約的事奉
11 不過基督已經來到，做了那些已經發生的[c]美善之事的大祭司，經過了那更大、更完美的會幕。那會幕不是人手所造的；就是說，不屬於這被造的世界。 12 他也沒有藉著山羊和牛犢的血，而是藉著他自己的血，一次性地進入聖所，成就了永恆的救贖。 13 實際上，如果山羊和公牛的血，以及母牛犢的灰，灑在那些汙穢的人身上，能使他們分別為聖、肉身潔淨， 14 更何況基督的血呢！基督藉著永恆的聖靈[d]，將自己毫無瑕疵地獻給神，他的血難道不能潔淨我們[e]的良心脫離致死的行為，使我們事奉永生的神嗎？
15 為此，基督做了新約的中保，藉著死贖清了人在第一個約之下的過犯，好使那些蒙召的人可以得到所應許的永恆繼業。 16 要知道，遺囑[f]在哪裡生效[g]，立遺囑之人的死亡就必須得到證實。 17 事實上，人死了，遺囑[h]才能確立，因為立遺囑之人活著的時候，遺囑絕對不能生效。 18 原來不用血，第一個約也不能成立， 19 就是說，摩西按照律法向全體民眾宣講了所有的誡命之後，拿了牛犢和山羊[i]的血，摻上水，用深紅色的羊毛和牛膝草，灑在那書卷上和全體民眾身上， 20 說：「這是立約的血，是神吩咐給你們的。」[j] 21 然後，他又同樣地把血灑在會幕和服事用的所有器皿上。 22 按照律法，幾乎一切都是用血潔淨的；沒有流血，就沒有赦免。
23 既然那些諸天之上事物的模型，必須用這些祭物[k]來潔淨，那天上事物的本體就必須用比這些更好的祭物來潔淨， 24 因為基督不是進入了人手所造的聖所——那不過是真聖所的象徵——而是進入了上天本身，如今替我們顯現在神的面前。 25 他也不用再三地將自己獻上，像大祭司年年帶著牛羊的[l]血進入聖所那樣， 26 否則，從創世以來，他就必須再三地受難了。但如今，他在萬世的末期顯現了一次，好藉著獻上自己為祭，把罪除掉。 27 就如人人註定都有一死，而且死後有審判， 28 照樣，基督為了擔當眾人的罪孽，也被獻上一次；將來還要再一次顯現，不是為了罪，而是為了使那些熱切等待他的人得到救恩。

9 Certamente anche il primo patto ebbe degli ordinamenti per il servizio divino e per il santuario terreno.
2 Infatti fu costruito un primo tabernacolo in cui vi erano il candelabro la tavola e i pani della presentazione; esso è chiamato: "Il luogo santo".
3 Dietro il secondo velo c'era il tabernacolo, detto: "Il luogo santissimo",
4 che conteneva un turibolo d'oro e l'arca del patto tutta ricoperta d'oro, nella quale si trovava un vaso d'oro contenente la manna, la verga di Aaronne che era germogliata e le tavole del patto.
5 E sopra l'arca vi erano i cherubini della gloria che adombravano il propiziatorio; di queste cose non possiamo parlarne ora dettagliatamente.
6 Or essendo queste cose disposte cosí, i sacerdoti entravano continuamente nel primo tabernacolo, per compiere il servizio divino;
7 ma nel secondo entrava soltanto il sommo sacerdote una volta all'anno, non senza sangue, che egli offriva per se stesso, e per i peccati d'ignoranza del popolo.
8 Lo Spirito Santo voleva cosí dimostrare che la via del santuario non era ancora resa manifesta, mentre sussisteva ancora il primo tabernacolo,
9 il quale è una figura per il tempo presente, e voleva indicare che i doni e i sacrifici offerti non potevano rendere perfetto nella coscienza colui che faceva il servizio divino,
10 trattandosi solo di cibi, di bevande, di varie abluzioni e di ordinamenti carnali, imposti fino al tempo del cambiamento.
11 Ma Cristo, essendo venuto come sommo sacerdote dei beni futuri, attraverso un tabernacolo piú grande e piú perfetto non fatto da mano d'uomo, cioè non di questa creazione,
12 entrò una volta per sempre nel santuario, non con sangue di capri e di vitelli, ma col proprio sangue, avendo acquistato una redenzione eterna.
13 Infatti, se il sangue dei tori e dei capri e la cenere di una giovenca aspersi sopra i contaminati li santifica, purificandoli nella carne,
14 quanto piú il sangue di Cristo, che mediante lo Spirito eterno offerse se stesso puro di ogni colpa a Dio, purificherà la vostra coscienza dalle opere morte per servire il Dio vivente!
15 E perciò egli è il mediatore del nuovo patto affinché, essendo intervenuta la morte per il riscatto dalle trasgressioni commesse sotto il primo patto, i chiamati ricevano la promessa dell'eterna eredità.
16 Poiché dove c'è un testamento, ci deve essere necessariamente anche la morte del testatore.
17 Il testamento infatti è valido solo dopo la morte di qualcuno, perché non ha alcuna forza mentre vive ancora il testatore.
18 Per questo neppure il primo fu inaugurato senza sangue.
19 Infatti, quando tutti i comandamenti secondo la legge furono proclamati da Mosè a tutto il popolo, egli, preso il sangue dei vitelli e dei capri, con acqua, lana scarlatta e issopo, asperse il libro stesso e tutto il popolo,
20 dicendo «Questo è il sangue del patto che Dio ha ordinato per voi».
21 Parimenti con quel sangue egli asperse pure il tabernacolo e tutti gli arredi del servizio divino.
22 E, secondo la legge, quasi tutte le cose sono purificate col sangue; e senza spargimento di sangue non c'è perdono dei peccati.
23 Era dunque necessario che i modelli delle cose celesti fossero purificati con queste cose; ma le cose celesti stesse lo dovevano essere con sacrifici piú eccellenti di questi.
24 Cristo infatti non è entrato in un santuario fatto da mani d'uomo, figura delle cose vere, ma nel cielo stesso per comparire ora davanti alla presenza di Dio per noi,
25 e non per offrire se stesso piú volte, come il sommo sacerdote che entra ogni anno nel santuario con sangue, non suo.
26 altrimenti egli avrebbe dovuto soffrire piú volte dalla fondazione del mondo; ma ora, una sola volta, alla fine delle età, Cristo è stato manifestato per annullare il peccato mediante il sacrificio di se stesso.
27 E come è stabilito che gli uomini muoiano una sola volta, e dopo ciò viene il giudizio,
28 cosí anche Cristo, dopo essere stato offerto una sola volta per prendere su di sé i peccati di molti, apparirà una seconda volta senza peccato a coloro che lo aspettano per la salvezza.

9 Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.
2 For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary.
3 And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;
4 Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;
5 And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly.
6 Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.
7 But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
8 The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:
9 Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
10 Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.
11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.
18 Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood.
19 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,
20 Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.
21 Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.
22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
23 It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:
25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;
26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

The Earthly Sanctuary(A)
9 Then indeed, even the first covenant had ordinances of divine service and (B)the earthly sanctuary. 2 For a tabernacle was prepared: the first part, in which was the lampstand, the table, and the showbread, which is called the [a]sanctuary; 3 (C)and behind the second veil, the part of the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of All, 4 which had the (D)golden censer and (E)the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold, in which were (F)the golden pot that had the manna, (G)Aaron’s rod that budded, and (H)the tablets of the covenant; 5 and (I)above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail.
Limitations of the Earthly Service
6 Now when these things had been thus prepared, (J)the priests always went into the first part of the tabernacle, performing the services. 7 But into the second part the high priest went alone (K)once a year, not without blood, which he offered for (L)himself and for the people’s sins committed in ignorance; 8 the Holy Spirit indicating this, that (M)the way into the Holiest of All was not yet made manifest while the first tabernacle was still standing. 9 It was symbolic for the present time in which both gifts and sacrifices are offered (N)which cannot make him who performed the service perfect in regard to the conscience— 10 concerned only with (O)foods and drinks, (P)various [b]washings, (Q)and fleshly ordinances imposed until the time of reformation.
The Heavenly Sanctuary
11 But Christ came as High Priest of (R)the good things [c]to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. 12 Not (S)with the blood of goats and calves, but (T)with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place (U)once for all, (V)having obtained eternal redemption. 13 For if (W)the blood of bulls and goats and (X)the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, [d]sanctifies for the [e]purifying of the flesh, 14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without [f]spot to God, (Y)cleanse your conscience from (Z)dead works (AA)to serve the living God? 15 And for this reason (AB)He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that (AC)those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
The Mediator’s Death Necessary
16 For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. 17 For (AD)a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives. 18 (AE)Therefore not even the first covenant was dedicated without blood. 19 For when Moses had spoken every [g]precept to all the people according to the law, (AF)he took the blood of calves and goats, (AG)with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, 20 saying, (AH)“This is the (AI)blood of the covenant which God has commanded you.” 21 Then likewise (AJ)he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry. 22 And according to the law almost all things are [h]purified with blood, and (AK)without shedding of blood there is no [i]remission.
Greatness of Christ’s Sacrifice
23 Therefore it was necessary that (AL)the copies of the things in the heavens should be [j]purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For (AM)Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are [k]copies of (AN)the true, but into heaven itself, now (AO)to appear in the presence of God for us; 25 not that He should offer Himself often, as (AP)the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another— 26 He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. 27 (AQ)And as it is appointed for men to die once, (AR)but after this the judgment, 28 so (AS)Christ was (AT)offered once to bear the sins (AU)of many. To those who (AV)eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
