耶路撒冷的惨况
1 哈迦利亚的儿子尼希米的言行录：亚达薛西王二十年基斯流月，我在书珊宫中， 2 我的一位兄弟哈拿尼和几个人一起从犹大来到；我询问他们关于那些从被掳逃脱的犹大余民和关于耶路撒冷的景况。 3 他们对我说：“那些从被掳剩下的余民，在犹大省那里遭遇大患难，受到凌辱。耶路撒冷的城墙倒塌，城门也被火烧毁。”

4 我听见了这些事，就坐下哭泣，悲伤了好几天，在天上的 神面前禁食祷告， 5 说：“耶和华天上的 神，伟大可畏的 神啊，你向那些爱你，遵守你诫命的人，守约施慈爱。 6 求你侧着耳，睁着眼的，垂听你仆人的祷告，我今天在你面前昼夜为着你的仆人以色列人祷告，承认以色列人所犯的罪，就是我与我父的家向你所犯的罪。 7 我们故意行极大的恶事得罪你，没有遵守你吩咐你仆人摩西的诫命、律例和典章。 8 求你记念你吩咐你仆人摩西的话，说：‘你们若是不忠，我就把你们分散在万民中。 9 但如果你们回心转意归向我，谨守遵行我的诫命，即使在你们被赶逐的天边，我也必从那里把他们招聚回来，带他们到我选择给我的名居住的地方那里去。’ 10 这些都是你的仆人，你的子民，是你用你的大能和你强而有力的手所救赎的。 11 主啊，求你留意听你仆人的祷告，也听那些喜爱敬畏你名的仆人的祷告；求你使你的仆人今天顺利，使他在这人面前蒙怜悯。”那时我是王的酒政。

1 以下是哈迦利亞的兒子尼希米的記述。
波斯王亞達薛西二十年基斯流月[a]，我在書珊城裡。 2 從猶大來了我的一個兄弟哈拿尼和一些人，我問他們有關從流亡之地歸回的猶太餘民和耶路撒冷的情況。 3 他們回答說：「那些從流亡之地歸回猶大省的人深陷苦難，飽受凌辱。耶路撒冷的城牆已經倒塌，城門也被燒毀。」
4 我一聽見這消息，就坐下痛哭，悲傷了好幾天。我在天上的上帝面前禁食禱告，說：
5 「天上的上帝耶和華啊，你是偉大而可畏的上帝，你向愛你、守你誡命的人守約，施慈愛。 6 僕人在你面前晝夜為你的眾僕人以色列民祈禱，求你睜眼察看，側耳傾聽。我承認以色列人向你所犯的罪，以及我和我的家族所犯的罪。 7 我們行事敗壞，沒有遵守你賜給你僕人摩西的誡命、律例和典章。 8 求你顧念你對你僕人摩西所說的話，『如果你們不忠，我必把你們驅散到列邦中。 9 但如果你們轉向我，謹遵我的誡命，即使你們流落天涯，我也必從那裡把你們召集到我選為我名所在之地。』 10 我們是你的僕人、你的子民，是你用大能大力救贖的。 11 主啊，求你側耳聽你僕人的禱告，垂聽那些喜愛敬畏你名的眾僕人的祈求，使你僕人今天亨通，在王面前蒙恩。」

1 The Divrei Nechemyah ben Chachalyah. And it came to pass in the month Kislev, in the twentieth year [i.e., 445 B.C.E.], as I was in Shushan the capital [of Persia],
2 That Chanani, one of my achim [see 7:2], came, he and certain men, from Yehudah; and I asked them concerning the remnant of the Yehudim that had survived the Exile [the Golus], and concerning Yerushalayim.
3 And they said unto me, The remnant that have survived the Exile [the Golus] there in the province are in ra’ah gedolah and reproach; the Chomat Yerushalayim also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with eish.
4 And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned for several yamim, and did a tzom, and davened before Elohei HaShomayim,
5 And said, O Hashem Elohei HaShomayim, HaEl HaGadol vHaNora, that is shomer habrit vachesed for them that love Him and are shomer mitzvot over His commandments,
6 Let Thine ear now be attentive, and Thine eyes open, that Thou mayest hear the tefillah of Thy eved, which I am davening before Thee now, yomam valailah, for the Bnei Yisroel Thy avadim, and mitvaddeh al chattot (confess the sins) of the Bnei Yisroel, which we have sinned against Thee. Both I and the Bais Avi have sinned.
7 We have dealt very corruptly against Thee, and have not been shomer mitzvot, neither over the chukkim, nor the mishpatim, which Thou commandedst Moshe Thy eved.
8 Remember, the word that Thou commandedst Moshe Thy eved, saying, If ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations,
9 But if ye make teshuvah and turn unto Me, and are shomer over My mitzvot, and do them; though there were of you those exiled unto the uttermost part of HaShomayim, yet will I gather them from there, and will bring them unto the place [i.e., Yerushalayim] that I have chosen to make dwell Shmi (My Name) there.
10 Now these are Thy Avadim and Thy Am, whom Thou hast redeemed by Thy ko’ach hagadol, and by Thy Yad HaChazakah.
11 O Adonoi, let now Thine ear be attentive to the tefillah of Thy eved, and to the tefillah of Thy Avadim, who desire to fear Thy Shem; and give success to Thy eved today, and grant him rachamim in the sight of this man. For I was the Mashkeh L’Melech.

1 Ito ang salaysay tungkol sa mga ginawa ni Nehemias na anak ni Hacalia.
Ang Pananalangin ni Nehemias para sa Jerusalem
Noong ikasiyam na buwan, ang buwan ng Kislev, nang ika-20 taon ng paghahari ni Artaserses sa Persia, naroon ako sa palasyo sa Susa. 2 Doon ay pumunta sa akin ang isa sa mga kapatid ko na si Hanani. Galing siya sa Juda kasama ang ilang kalalakihan. Tinanong ko sila tungkol sa Jerusalem at sa mga Judio na nagsibalik mula sa pagkakabihag[a] sa Babilonia. 3 Sumagot sila, “Labis na nahihirapan ang mga nagsibalik sa Juda, tinutuya sila ng mga tao sa paligid nila. Hanggang ngayon, sira pa rin ang pader ng Jerusalem at sunog ang mga pintuan nito.”
4 Nang marinig ko iyon, umupo ako at umiyak. Ilang araw akong nagdalamhati, nag-ayuno, at nanalangin sa presensya ng Dios ng kalangitan. 5 Sinabi ko, “Panginoon, Dios ng kalangitan, makapangyarihan po kayo at kamangha-manghang Dios. Tinutupad nʼyo ang inyong kasunduan nang may pag-ibig sa mga umiibig sa inyo at tumutupad sa inyong mga utos. 6 Akong lingkod nʼyo ay nananalangin araw at gabi para sa bayan ng Israel na mga lingkod ninyo. Pakinggan nʼyo po ako at tugunin ang dalangin ko. Ipinapahayag ko sa inyo ang mga kasalanan naming mga Israelita, pati ang mga kasalanan ko at ng aking mga ninuno. 7 Lubha pong napakasama ng ginawa namin sa inyo. Hindi namin tinutupad ang mga utos ninyo at mga tuntuning ibinigay sa amin sa pamamagitan ni Moises na inyong lingkod.
8 “Alalahanin po ninyo ang sinabi nʼyo noon kay Moises: ‘Kung kayong mga Israelita ay hindi maging matapat sa akin, pangangalatin ko kayo sa ibang mga bansa. 9 Ngunit kung manunumbalik kayo sa akin at tutupad sa mga utos ko, kahit mangalat pa kayo sa pinakamalayong lugar, titipunin ko kayong muli sa lugar na pinili ko upang akoʼy parangalan.’
10 “Kami po ay mga lingkod nʼyo at mga mamamayang iniligtas ninyo sa pamamagitan ng inyong kapangyarihan at lakas. 11 Panginoon, dinggin nʼyo po ang dalangin ko, na inyong lingkod, at ang dalangin ng iba pa ninyong mga lingkod na nasisiyahang igalang kayo. Bigyan nʼyo po ako ngayon ng tagumpay sa paghiling ko sa hari. At nawaʼy kabutihan ang maipakita niya sa akin.”
Nang panahong iyon, tagapagsilbi ako ng inumin ng hari.
