尼希米的禱告
1 以下是哈迦利亞的兒子尼希米的記述。
波斯王亞達薛西二十年基斯流月[a]，我在書珊城裡。 2 從猶大來了我的一個兄弟哈拿尼和一些人，我問他們有關從流亡之地歸回的猶太餘民和耶路撒冷的情況。 3 他們回答說：「那些從流亡之地歸回猶大省的人深陷苦難，飽受凌辱。耶路撒冷的城牆已經倒塌，城門也被燒毀。」
4 我一聽見這消息，就坐下痛哭，悲傷了好幾天。我在天上的上帝面前禁食禱告，說：
5 「天上的上帝耶和華啊，你是偉大而可畏的上帝，你向愛你、守你誡命的人守約，施慈愛。 6 僕人在你面前晝夜為你的眾僕人以色列民祈禱，求你睜眼察看，側耳傾聽。我承認以色列人向你所犯的罪，以及我和我的家族所犯的罪。 7 我們行事敗壞，沒有遵守你賜給你僕人摩西的誡命、律例和典章。 8 求你顧念你對你僕人摩西所說的話，『如果你們不忠，我必把你們驅散到列邦中。 9 但如果你們轉向我，謹遵我的誡命，即使你們流落天涯，我也必從那裡把你們召集到我選為我名所在之地。』 10 我們是你的僕人、你的子民，是你用大能大力救贖的。 11 主啊，求你側耳聽你僕人的禱告，垂聽那些喜愛敬畏你名的眾僕人的祈求，使你僕人今天亨通，在王面前蒙恩。」

1 Parole di Neemia figlio di Akalià. Nel mese di Casleu dell'anno ventesimo, mentre ero nella cittadella di Susa, 2 Canàni, uno dei miei fratelli, e alcuni altri uomini arrivarono dalla Giudea. Li interrogai riguardo ai Giudei che erano rimpatriati, superstiti della deportazione, e riguardo a Gerusalemme. 3 Essi mi dissero: «I superstiti della deportazione sono là, nella provincia, in grande miseria e abbattimento; le mura di Gerusalemme restano piene di brecce e le sue porte consumate dal fuoco». 4 Udite queste parole, mi sedetti e piansi; feci lutto per parecchi giorni, digiunando e pregando davanti al Dio del cielo. 5 E dissi: «Signore, Dio del cielo, Dio grande e tremendo, che mantieni l'alleanza e la misericordia con quelli che ti amano e osservano i tuoi comandi, 6 siano i tuoi orecchi attenti, i tuoi occhi aperti per ascoltare la preghiera del tuo servo; io prego ora davanti a te giorno e notte per gli Israeliti, tuoi servi, confessando i peccati, che noi Israeliti abbiamo commesso contro di te; anch'io e la casa di mio padre abbiamo peccato. 7 Ci siamo comportati male con te e non abbiamo osservato i comandi, le leggi e le decisioni che tu hai dato a Mosè tuo servo. 8 Ricordati della parola che hai affidato a Mosè tuo servo: Se sarete infedeli, io vi disperderò fra i popoli; 9 ma se tornerete a me e osserverete i miei comandi e li eseguirete, anche se i vostri esiliati si trovassero all'estremità dell'orizzonte, io di là li raccoglierò e li ricondurrò al luogo che ho scelto per farvi dimorare il mio nome. 10 Ora questi sono tuoi servi e tuo popolo; tu li hai redenti con grande potenza e con mano forte. 11 Signore, siano i tuoi orecchi attenti alla preghiera del tuo servo e alla preghiera dei tuoi servi, che desiderano temere il tuo nome; concedi oggi buon successo al tuo servo e fagli trovare benevolenza davanti a questo uomo».

1 The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,
2 That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.
3 And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.
4 And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,
5 And said, I beseech thee, O Lord God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:
6 Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned.
7 We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.
8 Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations:
9 But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there.
10 Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand.
11 O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king's cupbearer.
