(A)In those days there was no king in Israel; (B)everyone did what was right in his own eyes.

Now there was a young man from (C)Bethlehem in Judah, of the family of Judah; he was a Levite, and (D)was staying there. The man departed from the city of Bethlehem in Judah to stay wherever he could find a place. Then he came to the mountains of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, as he journeyed.

In those days of the judges, there was no king in Israel, and everyone did what seemed right in his own eyes.

Now in Bethlehem in Judah, there was a young man who was a Levite, from the tribe of priests, and he was sojourning among the clan of Judah. He left Bethlehem in Judah to make his way as best he could. On his way, he arrived at Micah’s home in the hill country of Ephraim seeking work.
