For what we preach is not ourselves,(A) but Jesus Christ as Lord,(B) and ourselves as your servants(C) for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,”[a](D) made his light shine in our hearts(E) to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.(F)

But we have this treasure in jars of clay(G) to show that this all-surpassing power is from God(H) and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side,(I) but not crushed; perplexed,(J) but not in despair; persecuted,(K) but not abandoned;(L) struck down, but not destroyed.(M) 10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus,(N) so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.(O) 11 For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake,(P) so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body.

  1. 2 Corinthians 4:6 Gen. 1:3

(A)For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and (B)ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake. For it is the God (C)who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has (D)shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Cast Down but Unconquered

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, (E)that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are (F)hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not (G)forsaken; (H)struck down, but not destroyed— 10 (I)always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, (J)that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. 11 For we who live (K)are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

For what (A)we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with (B)ourselves as your servants[a] for Jesus' sake. For God, who said, (C)“Let light shine out of darkness,” (D)has shone in our hearts to give (E)the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Treasure in Jars of Clay

But we have this treasure in (F)jars of clay, (G)to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. We are (H)afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but (I)not forsaken; (J)struck down, but not destroyed; 10 (K)always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, (L)so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our bodies. 11 For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

14 because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead(A) will also raise us with Jesus(B) and present us with you to himself.(C) 15 All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving(D) to overflow to the glory of God.

16 Therefore we do not lose heart.(E) Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly(F) we are being renewed(G) day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.(H) 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen,(I) since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

14 knowing that (A)He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present us with you. 15 For (B)all things are for your sakes, that (C)grace, having spread through the many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God.

Seeing the Invisible

16 Therefore we (D)do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is (E)being renewed day by day. 17 For (F)our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 (G)while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

14 knowing that (A)he who raised the Lord Jesus (B)will raise us also with Jesus and (C)bring us with you into his presence. 15 For (D)it is all for your sake, so that as (E)grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, (F)to the glory of God.

16 So we do not lose heart. (G)Though our outer self[a] is wasting away, (H)our inner self (I)is being renewed day by day. 17 For (J)this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 (K)as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
