2 Corinthians 9:3-5

³^(A)Yet I have sent the brethren, lest our boasting of you should be in vain in this respect, that, as I said, you may be ready; ⁴lest if some Macedonians come with me and find you unprepared, we (not to mention you!) should be ashamed of this ^[a]confident boasting. ⁵Therefore I thought it necessary to ^[b]exhort the brethren to go to you ahead of time, and prepare your generous gift beforehand, which you had previously promised, that it may be ready as a matter of generosity and not as a ^[c]grudging obligation.

³Yet have I sent the brethren, lest our boasting of you should be in vain in this behalf; that, as I said, ye may be ready:

⁴Lest haply if they of Macedonia come with me, and find you unprepared, we (that we say not, ye) should be ashamed in this same confident boasting.

⁵Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your bounty, whereof ye had notice before, that the same might be ready, as a matter of bounty, and not as of covetousness.

³But I have sent the brothers, in order that our ^(A)boasting about you may not prove empty in this case, so that, ^(B)as I was saying, you will be prepared; ⁴otherwise, if any ^(C)Macedonians come with me and find you unprepared, we—not to mention you—would be put to shame by this confidence. ⁵So I considered it necessary to urge the ^(D)brothers that they go on ahead to you and arrange in advance your previously promised ^[a]^(E)generous gift, that the same would be ready as a ^[b]^(F)generous gift, and not as one grudgingly given due to greediness.
