⁸我曾為從前寫的那封信令你們憂傷而後悔，但現在不後悔了，因為我知道那封信令你們憂傷只是暫時的。 ⁹現在我很歡喜，當然不是因為你們憂傷而歡喜，而是看見你們因憂傷而悔改了。因為你們這樣憂傷合乎上帝的心意，使你們不致因我們而受到任何損失。 ¹⁰合乎上帝心意的憂傷會帶來悔改，使人得到救恩，永不後悔，但世俗的憂傷只會帶來死亡。

New International Version

⁸Even if I caused you sorrow by my letter,^(A) I do not regret it. Though I did regret it—I see that my letter hurt you, but only for a little while— ⁹yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us. ¹⁰Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation^(B) and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.

⁸For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.

⁹Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.

¹⁰For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
