8 关于祭过偶像的食物，我们晓得我们都有知识。但知识会使人自高自大，唯有爱心能造就人。 2 如果有人自以为知道些甚么，那么，他应该知道的，他还是不知道。 3 如果有人爱 神，这人是 神所知道的。 4 关于吃祭过偶像的食物，我们知道世上的偶像算不得甚么，也知道 神只有一位，没有别的神。 5 虽然有被称为神的，无论在天上或在地上（就如有许多的“神”许多的“主”）， 6 然而我们只有一位 神，就是父；万物都是从他而来，我们也为了他而活。我们也只有一位主，就是耶稣基督；万物都是借着他而有的，我们也是借着他而有的。
7 不过，这种知识不是人人都有的。有些人直到现在习惯了拜偶像的事，因此他们吃的时候，就把这些食物看作是真的献过给偶像的；他们的良心既然软弱，就被污秽了。 8 其实食物不能使我们亲近 神，我们不吃也无损，吃也无益。 9 然而你们要谨慎，免得你们这自由成了软弱的人的绊脚石。 10 因为如果有人看见你这有知识的人，在偶像的庙里吃喝，他的良心若是软弱，他不就放胆去吃那祭过偶像的食物吗？ 11 因此，基督已经为他死了的那软弱的弟兄，就因你的知识而灭亡了。 12 你们这样得罪弟兄，伤了他们软弱的良心，就是得罪基督了。 13 所以，如果食物使我的弟兄跌倒，我就永远不再吃肉，免得使我的弟兄跌倒了。

Food Offered to Idols
8 Now concerning[a] (A)food offered to idols: we know that (B)“all of us possess knowledge.” This “knowledge” (C)puffs up, (D)but love builds up. 2 (E)If anyone imagines that he knows something, (F)he does not yet know as he ought to know. 3 But if anyone loves God, (G)he is known by God.[b]
4 Therefore, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that (H)“an idol has no real existence,” and that (I)“there is no God but one.” 5 For although there may be (J)so-called gods in heaven or on earth—as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”— 6 yet (K)for us there is one God, the Father, (L)from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and (M)one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and (N)through whom we exist.
7 However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, (O)through former association with idols, eat food as really offered to an idol, and (P)their conscience, being weak, is defiled. 8 (Q)Food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do. 9 But take care (R)that this right of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block (S)to the weak. 10 For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating[c] in an idol's temple, will he not be encouraged,[d] if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols? 11 And so by your knowledge this weak person is (T)destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died. 12 Thus, sinning against your brothers[e] and (U)wounding their conscience when it is weak, (V)you sin against Christ. 13 Therefore, (W)if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.

8 Next is your question about eating food that has been sacrificed to idols. On this question everyone feels that only his answer is the right one! But although being a “know-it-all” makes us feel important, what is really needed to build the church is love. 2 If anyone thinks he knows all the answers, he is just showing his ignorance. 3 But the person who truly loves God is the one who is open to God’s knowledge.
4 So now, what about it? Should we eat meat that has been sacrificed to idols? Well, we all know that an idol is not really a god, and that there is only one God, and no other. 5 According to some people, there are a great many gods, both in heaven and on earth. 6 But we know that there is only one God, the Father, who created all things[a] and made us to be his own; and one Lord Jesus Christ, who made everything and gives us life.
7 However, some Christians don’t realize this. All their lives they have been used to thinking of idols as alive, and have believed that food offered to the idols is really being offered to actual gods. So when they eat such food it bothers them and hurts their tender consciences. 8 Just remember that God doesn’t care whether we eat it or not. We are no worse off if we don’t eat it, and no better off if we do. 9 But be careful not to use your freedom to eat it, lest you cause some Christian brother to sin whose conscience[b] is weaker than yours.
10 You see, this is what may happen: Someone who thinks it is wrong to eat this food will see you eating at a temple restaurant, for you know there is no harm in it. Then he will become bold enough to do it too, although all the time he still feels it is wrong. 11 So because you “know it is all right to do it,” you will be responsible for causing great spiritual damage to a brother with a tender conscience for whom Christ died. 12 And it is a sin against Christ to sin against your brother by encouraging him to do something he thinks is wrong. 13 So if eating meat offered to idols is going to make my brother sin, I’ll not eat any of it as long as I live because I don’t want to do this to him.
