The Resurrection of Christ
15 Now (A)I make known to you, brothers, the (B)gospel which I proclaimed as good news to you, which also you received, (C)in which also you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, (D)if you hold fast [a]the word which I proclaimed to you as good news, (E)unless you believed for nothing.
3 For (F)I delivered to you [b]as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died (G)for our sins (H)according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was (I)raised on the third day (J)according to the Scriptures, 5 and that (K)He appeared to (L)Cephas, then (M)to the twelve. 6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some (N)have fallen asleep. 7 After that, He appeared to [c](O)James, then to (P)all the apostles, 8 and last of all, as [d]to one untimely born, (Q)He appeared to me also. 9 For I am (R)the least of the apostles, [e]and not worthy to be called an apostle, because I (S)persecuted the church of God. 10 But by (T)the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I (U)labored even more than all of them, yet (V)not I, but the grace of God with me. 11 Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.
The Resurrection of the Dead
12 Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there (W)is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised. 14 And (X)if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. 15 Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we bore witness [f]against God that He (Y)raised [g]Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; (Z)you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who (AA)have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are (AB)of all men most to be pitied.
20 But now Christ (AC)has been raised from the dead, the (AD)first fruits of those who have (AE)fallen asleep. 21 For since (AF)by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For (AG)as in Adam all die, so also in [h]Christ all will be made alive. 23 But each in his own order: Christ (AH)the first fruits, after that (AI)those who are Christ’s at (AJ)His coming. 24 Then comes the end, when He hands over (AK)the kingdom to the (AL)God and Father, when He has abolished (AM)all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign (AN)until He has put all His enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy to be (AO)abolished is death. 27 For (AP)He has put all things in subjection under His feet. But when He says, “(AQ)All things are put in subjection,” it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him. 28 And when (AR)all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that (AS)God may be all in all.
29 Otherwise, what will those do who are baptized [i]for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why then are they baptized for them? 30 Why are we also (AT)in danger every hour? 31 I affirm, brothers, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, (AU)I die daily. 32 If [j]from human motives I (AV)fought with wild beasts at (AW)Ephesus, what does it profit me? If the dead are not raised, (AX)let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die. 33 (AY)Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.” 34 (AZ)Become righteously sober-minded, and stop sinning; for some have (BA)no knowledge of God. (BB)I speak this to your shame.
The Resurrection Body
35 But (BC)someone will say, “How are (BD)the dead raised? And with what kind of body do they come?” 36 (BE)You fool! That which you (BF)sow does not come to life unless it dies; 37 and that which you sow, you do not sow the body which is to be, but a bare grain, perhaps of wheat or of [k]something else. 38 But God gives it a body just as He wished, and (BG)to each of the seeds a body of its own. 39 All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one flesh of men, and another flesh of beasts, and another flesh of birds, and another of fish. 40 There are also heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is one, and the glory of the earthly is another. 41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory.
42 (BH)So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown [l](BI)a corruptible body, it is raised [m](BJ)an incorruptible body; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in (BK)glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a (BL)natural body, it is raised a (BM)spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So also it is written, “The first (BN)man, Adam, became a living soul.” The (BO)last Adam became a (BP)life-giving spirit. 46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual. 47 The first man is (BQ)from the earth, [n](BR)earthy; the second man is from heaven. 48 As is the earthy, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly, (BS)so also are those who are heavenly. 49 And just as we have (BT)borne the image of the earthy, [o]we (BU)will also bear the image of the heavenly.
50 Now I say this, brothers, that (BV)flesh and blood cannot (BW)inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the corruptible inherit (BX)the incorruptible. 51 Behold, I tell you a (BY)mystery: we will not all sleep, but we will all be (BZ)changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For (CA)the trumpet will sound, and (CB)the dead will be raised incorruptible, and (CC)we will be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on (CD)the incorruptible, and this (CE)mortal must put on immortality. 54 But when this corruptible puts on the incorruptible, and this mortal puts on immortality, then will come about the word that is written, “(CF)Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 (CG)O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 Now the sting of (CH)death is sin, and (CI)the power of sin is the law; 57 but (CJ)thanks be to God, who gives us the (CK)victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
58 (CL)Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in (CM)the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

Resurrection Essential to the Gospel
15 Now I want to make clear for you, brothers and sisters, the gospel which I preached to you, which you received, on which you have taken your stand(A) 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold to the message I preached to you – unless you believed in vain.(B) 3 For I passed on to you(C) as most important what I also received: that Christ died(D) for our sins according to the Scriptures,(E) 4 that he was buried,(F) that he was raised on the third day(G) according to the Scriptures,(H) 5 and that he appeared to Cephas,(I) then to the Twelve.(J) 6 Then he appeared to over five hundred brothers and sisters at one time;(K) most of them are still alive, but some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James,(L) then to all the apostles.(M) 8 Last of all, as to one born at the wrong time,[a](N) he also appeared to me.(O)
9 For I am the least of the apostles,(P) not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted(Q) the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace towards me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.(R) 11 Whether, then, it is I or they, so we proclaim and so you have believed.
Resurrection Essential to the Faith
12 Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead,(S) how can some of you say, ‘There is no resurrection of the dead’?(T) 13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised; 14 and if Christ has not been raised, then our proclamation is in vain, and so is your faith.[b] 15 Moreover, we are found to be false witnesses(U) about God, because we have testified(V) wrongly about God that he raised up Christ – whom he did not raise up, if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. 18 Those, then, who have fallen asleep in Christ(W) have also perished. 19 If we have put our hope in Christ for this life only, we should be pitied more than anyone.
Christ’s Resurrection Guarantees Ours
20 But as it is, Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits(X) of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since death(Y) came through a man,(Z) the resurrection of the dead also comes through a man.(AA) 22 For just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.(AB)
23 But each in his own order:(AC) Christ, the firstfruits; afterwards, at his coming, those who belong to Christ. 24 Then comes the end,(AD) when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father,(AE) when he abolishes all rule and all authority and power.(AF) 25 For he must reign(AG) until he puts all his enemies under his feet.(AH) 26 The last enemy to be abolished is death.(AI) 27 For God has put everything under his feet.[c](AJ) Now when it says ‘everything’ is put under him, it is obvious that he who puts everything under him is the exception. 28 When everything is subject to Christ, then the Son(AK) himself will also be subject to the one who subjected everything to him, so that God may be all in all.(AL)
Resurrection Supported by Christian Experience
29 Otherwise, what will they do who are being baptised for the dead?[d] If the dead are not raised at all, then why are people baptised for them?[e] 30 Why are we in danger every hour? 31 I face death every day,(AM) as surely as I may boast about you, brothers and sisters, in Christ Jesus our Lord. 32 If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus(AN) as a mere man, what good did that do me?(AO) If the dead are not raised, Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.[f](AP) 33 Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company corrupts good morals.’ 34 Come to your senses[g](AQ) and stop sinning; for some people are ignorant about God. I say this to your shame.(AR)
The Nature of the Resurrection Body
35 But someone will ask, ‘How are the dead raised? What kind of body will they have when they come? ’ 36 You fool! What you sow does not come to life(AS) unless it dies. 37 And as for what you sow – you are not sowing the body that will be, but only a seed, perhaps of wheat or another grain. 38 But God gives it a body as he wants,(AT) and to each of the seeds its own body. 39 Not all flesh(AU) is the same flesh; there is one flesh for humans, another for animals, another for birds, and another for fish. 40 There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the splendour(AV) of the heavenly bodies is different from that of the earthly ones. 41 There is a splendour of the sun, another of the moon, and another of the stars; in fact, one star differs from another star in splendour. 42 So it is with the resurrection of the dead: Sown perishable, raised imperishable(AW) 43 sown in dishonour,(AX) raised in glory;(AY) sown in weakness, raised in power;(AZ) 44 sown a natural body, raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So it is written, The first man Adam became a living being;[h](BA) the last Adam(BB) became a life-giving spirit. 46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, then the spiritual.
47 The first man was from the earth, a man of dust;(BC) the second man is[i] from heaven. 48 Like the man of dust, so are those who are of the dust; like the man of heaven, so are those who are of heaven.(BD) 49 And just as we have borne the image(BE) of the man of dust, we will also bear the image of the man of heaven.(BF)
Victorious Resurrection
50 What I am saying, brothers and sisters, is this: Flesh(BG) and blood(BH) cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor can the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I am telling you a mystery: We shall not all fall asleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.(BI) For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible body must be clothed(BJ) with incorruptibility,(BK) and this mortal body must be clothed with immortality. 54 When this corruptible body is clothed with incorruptibility, and this mortal body is clothed with immortality, then the saying that is written will take place:
Death has been swallowed up(BL) in victory.[j](BM)
55 Where, death, is your victory?
Where, death, is your sting?[k](BN)
56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin(BO) is the law.(BP) 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory(BQ) through our Lord Jesus Christ!
58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord’s work,(BR) because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.
