Solomon Builds the Temple

3 So Solomon began to build the Temple of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to David, his father. The Temple was built on the threshing floor of Araunah[a] the Jebusite, the site that David had selected. 2 The construction began in midspring,[b] during the fourth year of Solomon’s reign.

3 These are the dimensions Solomon used for the foundation of the Temple of God (using the old standard of measurement).[c] It was 90 feet long and 30 feet wide.[d] 4 The entry room at the front of the Temple was 30 feet[e] wide, running across the entire width of the Temple, and 30 feet[f] high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold.

5 He paneled the main room of the Temple with cypress wood, overlaid it with fine gold, and decorated it with carvings of palm trees and chains. 6 He decorated the walls of the Temple with beautiful jewels and with gold from the land of Parvaim. 7 He overlaid the beams, thresholds, walls, and doors throughout the Temple with gold, and he carved figures of cherubim on the walls.

8 He made the Most Holy Place 30 feet wide, corresponding to the width of the Temple, and 30 feet deep. He overlaid its interior with 23 tons[g] of fine gold. 9 The gold nails that were used weighed 20 ounces[h] each. He also overlaid the walls of the upper rooms with gold.

10 He made two figures shaped like cherubim, overlaid them with gold, and placed them in the Most Holy Place. 11 The total wingspan of the two cherubim standing side by side was 30 feet. One wing of the first figure was 7 1⁄2 feet[i] long, and it touched the Temple wall. The other wing, also 7 1⁄2 feet long, touched one of the wings of the second figure. 12 In the same way, the second figure had one wing 7 1⁄2 feet long that touched the opposite wall. The other wing, also 7 1⁄2 feet long, touched the wing of the first figure. 13 So the wingspan of the two cherubim side by side was 30 feet. They stood on their feet and faced out toward the main room of the Temple.

14 Across the entrance of the Most Holy Place he hung a curtain made of fine linen, decorated with blue, purple, and scarlet thread and embroidered with figures of cherubim.

15 For the front of the Temple, he made two pillars that were 27 feet[j] tall, each topped by a capital extending upward another 7 1⁄2 feet. 16 He made a network of interwoven chains[k] and used them to decorate the tops of the pillars. He also made 100 decorative pomegranates and attached them to the chains. 17 Then he set up the two pillars at the entrance of the Temple, one to the south of the entrance and the other to the north. He named the one on the south Jakin, and the one on the north Boaz.[l]

  12. 3:17 Jakin probably means “he establishes”; Boaz probably means “in him is strength.”

3 Comenzó Salomón a edificar la casa de Jehová en Jerusalén, en el monte Moriah, que había sido mostrado a David su padre, en el lugar que David había preparado en la era de Ornán jebuseo. 2 Y comenzó a edificar en el mes segundo, a los dos días del mes, en el cuarto año de su reinado. 3 Estas son las medidas que dio Salomón a los cimientos de la casa de Dios. La primera, la longitud, de sesenta codos, y la anchura de veinte codos. 4 El pórtico que estaba al frente del edificio era de veinte codos de largo, igual al ancho de la casa, y su altura de ciento veinte codos; y lo cubrió por dentro de oro puro. 5 Y techó el cuerpo mayor del edificio con madera de ciprés, la cual cubrió de oro fino, e hizo realzar en ella palmeras y cadenas. 6 Cubrió también la casa de piedras preciosas para ornamento; y el oro era oro de Parvaim. 7 Así que cubrió la casa, sus vigas, sus umbrales, sus paredes y sus puertas, con oro; y esculpió querubines en las paredes.

8 Hizo asimismo el lugar santísimo,(A) cuya longitud era de veinte codos según el ancho del frente de la casa, y su anchura de veinte codos; y lo cubrió de oro fino que ascendía a seiscientos talentos. 9 Y el peso de los clavos era de uno hasta cincuenta siclos de oro. Cubrió también de oro los aposentos.

10 Y dentro del lugar santísimo hizo dos querubines(B) de madera, los cuales fueron cubiertos de oro. 11 La longitud de las alas de los querubines era de veinte codos; porque una ala era de cinco codos, la cual llegaba hasta la pared de la casa, y la otra de cinco codos, la cual tocaba el ala del otro querubín. 12 De la misma manera una ala del otro querubín era de cinco codos, la cual llegaba hasta la pared de la casa, y la otra era de cinco codos, que tocaba el ala del otro querubín. 13 Estos querubines tenían las alas extendidas por veinte codos, y estaban en pie con los rostros hacia la casa. 14 Hizo también el velo(C) de azul, púrpura, carmesí y lino, e hizo realzar querubines en él.

15 Delante de la casa hizo dos columnas de treinta y cinco codos de altura cada una, con sus capiteles encima, de cinco codos. 16 Hizo asimismo cadenas en el santuario, y las puso sobre los capiteles de las columnas; e hizo cien granadas, las cuales puso en las cadenas. 17 Y colocó las columnas delante del templo, una a la mano derecha, y otra a la izquierda; y a la de la mano derecha llamó Jaquín, y a la de la izquierda, Boaz.

Templet byggs

3 (A) Salomo började bygga Herrens hus i Jerusalem på Moria[a] berg, där Herren hade uppenbarat sig för hans far David, på den plats som David hade ställt i ordning, jebusiten Ornans[b] tröskplats. 2 (B) Han började bygga på andra dagen i andra månaden i sitt fjärde regeringsår.[c]

3 När Salomo byggde Guds hus, lade han grunden så att det blev sextio alnar långt och tjugo alnar[d] brett efter det gamla alnmåttet. 4 Förhuset som låg framför långhuset, framför husets kortsida, mätte tjugo alnar, och dess höjd var hundratjugo.[e] På insidan överdrog han det med rent guld. 5 Det stora huset klädde han med cypressträ. Detta i sin tur överdrog han med fint guld och prydde det med palmer och kedjor. 6 Dessutom smyckade han huset med dyrbara stenar. Guldet han använde var från Parvajim.[f] 7 Han klädde huset, bjälkarna, trösklarna liksom väggarna och dörrarna i huset med guld och skar ut keruber[g] på väggarna.

8 Dessutom ställde han i ordning det rum som skulle vara det allra heligaste. Det låg utefter husets kortsida och var tjugo alnar[h] långt och tjugo alnar brett. Han klädde det med fint guld, sexhundra talenter i vikt. 9 Spikarna vägde femtio siklar[i] i guld. De övre salarna klädde han också med guld.

10 Till det rum som var det allra heligaste lät han skulptera två keruber, och man överdrog dem med guld. 11 Längden på kerubernas vingar var tillsammans tjugo alnar. Den enas ena vinge, fem alnar lång[j], rörde vid husets ena vägg, och hans andra vinge, fem alnar lång, rörde vid den andra kerubens vinge. 12 Den andra kerubens ena vinge, fem alnar lång, rörde vid husets andra vägg, och hans andra vinge, fem alnar lång, nådde till den första kerubens vinge. 13 (C) Tillsammans bredde alltså keruberna ut sina vingar tjugo alnar, där de stod på sina fötter med ansiktena vända inåt.

14 (D) Förhänget gjorde han av mörkblått, purpurrött och karmosinrött garn och fint lingarn och prydde den med keruber.

Jakin och Boas

15 (E) Framför huset gjorde han två pelare, trettiofem alnar[k] höga. Pelarhuvudet ovanpå var och en av dem var fem alnar. 16 Han gjorde kedjor till koret och satte också kedjor upptill på pelarna. Dessutom gjorde han hundra granatäpplen och satte dem på kedjorna. 17 Och pelarna ställde han upp framför tempelsalen, den ena på högra sidan och den andra på vänstra. Åt den högra gav han namnet Jakin och åt den vänstra namnet Boas[l].
