犹大王约阿施
24 约阿施七岁登基，在耶路撒冷执政四十年。他母亲叫西比亚，是别示巴人。 2 耶何耶大祭司在世之日，约阿施做耶和华视为正的事。 3 耶何耶大为他娶了两个妻子，她们都为他生儿育女。
4 之后，约阿施有意整修耶和华的殿， 5 便召集祭司和利未人，对他们说：“你们到犹大各城去向所有以色列人征收银子，用来作每年整修你们上帝殿的费用。你们要立刻办理这事。”可是，利未人没有立刻办理。 6 王就召来耶何耶大大祭司，问他：“你为什么不吩咐利未人到耶路撒冷和犹大去收税呢？这税是耶和华的仆人摩西和以色列的会众定的，以备圣幕之用。” 7 因为恶妇亚她利雅的爪牙曾闯入耶和华上帝的殿，拿殿里的圣物去供奉巴力。
8 于是，王下令造一个箱子，放在耶和华殿的门外， 9 通告犹大和耶路撒冷的人民要将上帝的仆人摩西在旷野为以色列人定的税带来献给耶和华。 10 全体首领和民众都高高兴兴地把银子带来投进箱子里，直到箱子满了。 11 利未人见箱子满了，就抬到王的官员那里。王的书记和大祭司的属下会把箱子倒空，然后把箱子放回原处。日复一日，他们收了很多银子。 12 王与耶何耶大把银子交给耶和华殿里的办事人员，他们就雇用石匠、木匠、铁匠和铜匠来整修耶和华的殿。 13 工人辛勤整修，工程进展顺利，上帝的殿恢复了原貌，而且非常坚固。 14 完工后，他们把剩余的银子交给王与耶何耶大，这些银子被用来制造耶和华殿里的器具：供奉和献祭用的器皿、碟子和其他金银器皿。耶何耶大在世之日，民众常在耶和华的殿里献燔祭。

20 上帝的灵感动了耶何耶大祭司的儿子撒迦利亚，他便站在高处对民众说：“耶和华上帝这样说，‘你们为什么违反耶和华的诫命，以致不得亨通呢？既然你们背弃我，我也必离弃你们。’” 21 他们想谋害撒迦利亚，就照着王的命令，在耶和华殿的院子里用石头打死了他。 22 约阿施王不但不顾念撒迦利亚的父亲耶何耶大对他的恩惠，还杀死了耶何耶大的儿子。撒迦利亚临死的时候说：“愿耶和华鉴察，为我申冤！”
约阿施被杀
23 当年年底，亚兰的军兵前来攻击约阿施，入侵犹大和耶路撒冷，杀了民众的所有首领，把战利品全都送到大马士革王那里。 24 虽然亚兰军只来了一小队，但耶和华把大队的犹大军兵交在他们手中，以惩罚约阿施，因为犹大人背弃了他们祖先的上帝耶和华。
25 亚兰人退兵的时候，约阿施受了重伤，他的臣仆叛变，把他杀死在床上，为耶何耶大祭司的儿子报了血仇。约阿施死后葬在大卫城，但没有葬在王陵里。 26 杀他的是亚扪妇人示米押的儿子撒拔和摩押妇人示米利的儿子约萨拔。 27 至于约阿施的众子、他所受的警告以及他整修上帝殿的事都记在列王史上。他儿子亚玛谢继位。

24 Yoash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned arba’im shanah in Yerushalayim. Shem immo also was Tzivyah of Beer Sheva.
2 And Yoash did that which was yashar in the eyes of Hashem kol yemei Yehoyada HaKohen.
3 And Yehoyada took for him nashim shtayim; and he fathered banim and banot.
4 And it came to pass after this, that Yoash was minded to renovate the Bais Hashem.
5 And he called together the Kohanim and the Levi’im, and said to them, Go out unto the towns of Yehudah, and collect from Kol Yisroel kesef to repair the Bais Eloheichem annually, and see that ye hasten the matter. Howbeit the Levi’im hastened it not.
6 And HaMelech called for Yehoyada HaRosh, and said unto him, Why hast thou not required of the Levi’im to bring in from Yehudah and from Yerushalayim the mas’at (the tax of) Moshe Eved Hashem and the Kahal L’Yisroel L’Ohel HaEdut?
7 For the sons of that wicked woman Atalyah had broken in the Beis HaElohim; all the Kadshei Beis Hashem did they bestow upon Ba’alim.
8 And at the commandment of HaMelech they made aron echad and set it outside at the Sha’ar Beis Hashem.
9 And they made a proclamation in Yehudah and in Yerushalayim, to bring in to Hashem the mas’at Moshe Eved HaElohim laid upon Yisroel in the midbar.
10 And all the sarim and kol HaAm rejoiced, and brought in, and dropped into the aron, until it was full.
11 Now it came to pass, that at what time the aron was brought unto the Pekuddat HaMelech by the yad of the Levi’im, and when they saw that there was much kesef, the Sofer HaMelech and the official, the Pakid Kohen HaRosh came and emptied the aron, and took it, and carried it to its place again. Thus they did yom b’yom, and collected kesef in abundance.
12 And HaMelech and Yehoyada gave it to such as did the work of the Avodas Beis Hashem, and hired masons and carpenters to renovate the Beis Hashem, and also such as wrought barzel and nechoshet to repair the Beis Hashem.
13 So the workmen wrought, and the work in the yad of them was furthered, and they restored the Beis HaElohim to its original form and reinforced it.
14 And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the kesef before HaMelech and Yehoyada, whereof were made vessels for the Beis Hashem, even keli sharet, and for the olot, and ladles, and vessels of zahav and kesef. And they offered olot in the Beis Hashem continually all the days of Yehoyada.
15 But Yehoyada was old, and was full of yamim when he died: 130 years old was he in his mot.
16 And they buried him in Ir Dovid among the Melachim, because he had done tovah in Yisroel, both toward HaElohim, and His Beis.
17 Now after the mot Yehoyada came the sarim of Yehudah, and paid homage to HaMelech. Then HaMelech paid heed unto them.
18 And they forsook the Beis Hashem Elohei Avoteihem, and served HaAsherim and the atzabim; and ketzef (wrath) came upon Yehudah and Yerushalayim because of their trespass.
19 Yet He sent Nevi’im to them, to bring them back unto Hashem; and they testified against them; but they would not give ear.
20 And the Ruach Elohim came upon Zecharyah ben Yehoyada HaKohen, which stood before HaAm and he said unto them, Thus saith HaElohim, Why transgress ye the mitzvot Hashem, that ye cannot prosper? Because ye have forsook Hashem, He hath also forsaken you.
21 And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the order of HaMelech in the khatzer of the Beis Hashem.
22 Thus Yoash HaMelech remembered not the chesed which Yehoyada Aviv had done to him, but slaughtered bno. And when he died, he said, May Hashem look upon it, and may He call to account.
23 And it came to pass at the end of the year, that the army of Aram came up against him, they invaded Yehudah and Yerushalayim, destroyed all the sarim of the people from among HaAm, sent all their plunder unto Melech Darmasek (Damascus].
24 For the army of Aram came with a small company of men, and Hashem delivered a very great army into their yad, because they had forsaken Hashem Elohei Avoteihem. So they executed shefatim against Yoash.
25 And when they withdrew from him, (for they left him with machaluyim rabbim [many wounds]), his own avadim conspired against him on account of the dahm of the Bnei Yehoyada HaKohen, and slaughtered him on his bed, and he died; and they buried him in Ir David, but they buried him not in the Kivrot HaMelachim.
26 And these are they that conspired against him: Zavad ben Shim’at an Ammonit, and Yehozavad ben Shimrit the Moavit.
27 Now concerning his banim, and the rav hamassa concerning him, and the repairing of the Beis HaElohim, hinei, they are written in the Midrash Sefer HaMelachim. And Amatzyah bno reigned in his place.

Young Joash Influenced by Jehoiada
24 (A)Joash was seven years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem; and his mother’s name was Zibiah from Beersheba. 2 (B)Joash did what was right in the sight of the Lord all the days of Jehoiada the priest. 3 Jehoiada took two wives for him, and he became the father of sons and daughters.
Faithless Priests
4 Now it came about after this that Joash [a]decided (C)to restore the house of the Lord. 5 He gathered the priests and Levites and said to them, “Go out to the cities of Judah and collect money from all (D)Israel to [b]repair the house of your God [c]annually, and you shall do the matter quickly.” But the Levites did not act quickly. 6 So the king summoned Jehoiada the chief priest and said to him, “Why have you not required the Levites to bring in from Judah and from Jerusalem (E)the levy fixed by Moses the servant of the Lord on the congregation of Israel (F)for the tent of the testimony?” 7 For (G)the sons of the wicked Athaliah had broken into the house of God and even [d]used the holy things of the house of the Lord for the Baals.
Temple Repaired
8 So the king commanded, and (H)they made a chest and set it outside by the gate of the house of the Lord. 9 (I)They made a proclamation in Judah and Jerusalem to bring to the Lord (J)the levy fixed by Moses the servant of God on Israel in the wilderness. 10 All the officers and all the people rejoiced and brought in their levies and [e]dropped them into the chest until they had finished. 11 It came about whenever the chest was brought in to the king’s officer by the Levites, and when (K)they saw that there was much money, then the king’s scribe and the chief priest’s officer would come, empty the chest, take it, and return it to its place. Thus they did daily and collected much money. 12 The king and Jehoiada gave it to those who did the work of the service of the house of the Lord; and they hired masons and carpenters to restore the house of the Lord, and also workers in iron and bronze to [f]repair the house of the Lord. 13 So the workmen labored, and the repair work progressed in their hands, and they [g]restored the house of God [h]according to its specifications and strengthened it. 14 When they had finished, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada; and it was made into utensils for the house of the Lord, utensils for the service and the burnt offering, and pans and utensils of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the Lord continually all the days of Jehoiada.
15 Now when Jehoiada [i]reached a ripe old age he died; he was one hundred and thirty years old at his death. 16 They buried him (L)in the city of David among the kings, because he had done well in (M)Israel and [j]to God and His house.
17 But after the death of Jehoiada the officials of Judah came and bowed down to the king, and the king listened to them. 18 They abandoned (N)the house of the Lord, the God of their fathers, and (O)served the [k]Asherim and the idols; so (P)wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their guilt. 19 Yet (Q)He sent prophets to them to bring them back to the Lord; though they testified against them, they would not listen.
Joash Murders Son of Jehoiada
20 (R)Then the Spirit of God [l]came on Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest; and he stood above the people and said to them, “Thus God has said, ‘(S)Why do you transgress the commandments of the Lord and do not prosper? (T)Because you have forsaken the Lord, He has also forsaken you.’” 21 So (U)they conspired against him and at the command of the king they stoned him [m]to death in the court of the house of the Lord. 22 Thus Joash the king did not remember the kindness which his father Jehoiada had shown him, but he murdered his son. And as he died he said, “May (V)the Lord see and [n]avenge!”
Aram Invades and Defeats Judah
23 Now it happened at the turn of the year that (W)the army of the Arameans came up against him; and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, destroyed all the officials of the people from among the people, and sent all their spoil to the king of Damascus. 24 Indeed the army of the Arameans came with a small number of men; yet (X)the Lord delivered a very great army into their hands, (Y)because they had forsaken the Lord, the God of their fathers. Thus they executed judgment on Joash.
25 (Z)When they had departed from him (for they left him very sick), his own servants conspired against him because of the blood of the [o]son of Jehoiada the priest, and murdered him on his bed. So he died, and they buried him in the city of David, but they did not bury him in the tombs of the kings. 26 Now these are those who conspired against him: Zabad the son of Shimeath the Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith the Moabitess. 27 As to his sons and the many [p]oracles against him and (AA)the [q]rebuilding of the house of God, behold, they are written in the [r](AB)treatise of the Book of the Kings. Then Amaziah his son became king in his place.
