Preparativos para edificar el templo y el palacio
2 [a]Y Salomón decidió edificar una casa al nombre del Señor(A), y un palacio real para sí. 2 [b]Y designó Salomón 70,000 hombres para llevar cargas, 80,000 para labrar piedra en los montes y 3,600 para dirigirlos(B).
3 (C)Entonces Salomón envió un mensaje a Hiram, rey de Tiro, diciendo: «Haz conmigo como hiciste con mi padre David, enviándole cedros para edificarle una casa donde habitar(D). 4 Voy a edificar una casa al nombre del Señor mi Dios, para consagrársela, para quemar incienso aromático delante de Él(E), para colocar continuamente los panes de la proposición(F) y para ofrecer holocaustos por la mañana y por la tarde(G), en los días de reposo(H), en las lunas nuevas y en las fiestas señaladas del Señor nuestro Dios; esto será ordenanza perpetua en Israel. 5 Y la casa que voy a edificar será grande; porque nuestro Dios es grande, más que todos los dioses(I). 6 Pero ¿quién será capaz de edificar una casa a Dios, cuando los cielos y los cielos de los cielos no pueden contenerlo(J)? ¿Quién soy yo para que le edifique una casa, aunque solo sea para quemar incienso delante de Él?
7 »Ahora pues, envíame un hombre diestro para trabajar en oro, en plata, en bronce, en hierro, y en material de púrpura, carmesí y violeta, y que sepa hacer grabados, para trabajar con los expertos que tengo(K) en Judá y en Jerusalén, los cuales mi padre David proveyó(L). 8 Envíame también del Líbano madera de cedro, ciprés y sándalo(M), porque yo sé que tus siervos saben cortar la madera del Líbano; y mis siervos trabajarán con tus siervos(N) 9 para que me preparen madera en abundancia, porque la casa que voy a edificar será grande y maravillosa. 10 Por mi parte yo daré a tus siervos, los trabajadores que cortan la madera, 20,000 coros (4.4 millones de litros) de trigo(O) en grano, y 20,000 coros de cebada, y 20,000 batos (444,000 litros) de vino, y 20,000 batos de aceite».
11 Hiram, rey de Tiro, respondió en una carta que envió a Salomón: «Por cuanto el Señor ama a Su pueblo, te ha hecho rey sobre ellos(P)». 12 Y añadió Hiram: «Bendito sea el Señor, Dios de Israel, que ha hecho los cielos y la tierra(Q), que ha dado al rey David un hijo sabio, dotado de prudencia y entendimiento, que edificará una casa para el Señor y un palacio real para sí(R).
13 »Y ahora te envío a Hiram Abí, hombre hábil, dotado de entendimiento, 14 hijo de una mujer de las hijas de Dan y cuyo padre es de Tiro, el cual sabe trabajar en oro, en plata, en bronce(S), en hierro, en piedra, en madera y en material de púrpura, violeta, lino y carmesí, y sabe hacer toda clase de grabados y cualquier diseño que se le asigne, para trabajar con tus expertos y con los expertos de mi señor David, tu padre. 15 Ahora pues, envíe mi señor a sus siervos el trigo, la cebada, el aceite y el vino(T), de los cuales ha hablado. 16 Y nosotros cortaremos toda la madera que necesites del Líbano, te la traeremos en balsas por el mar hasta Jope y tú la harás llevar a Jerusalén(U)».
17 Salomón contó todos los extranjeros que estaban en la tierra de Israel(V), después del censo que su padre David había hecho; y se hallaron 153,600. 18 Puso 70,000 de ellos a llevar cargas, 80,000 a labrar piedras en los montes y 3,600 como capataces para hacer trabajar al pueblo(W).

Preparations for Building the Temple(A)
2 [a]Solomon gave orders to build a temple(B) for the Name of the Lord and a royal palace for himself.(C) 2 He conscripted 70,000 men as carriers and 80,000 as stonecutters in the hills and 3,600 as foremen over them.(D)
3 Solomon sent this message to Hiram[b](E) king of Tyre:
“Send me cedar logs(F) as you did for my father David when you sent him cedar to build a palace to live in. 4 Now I am about to build a temple(G) for the Name of the Lord my God and to dedicate it to him for burning fragrant incense(H) before him, for setting out the consecrated bread(I) regularly, and for making burnt offerings(J) every morning and evening and on the Sabbaths,(K) at the New Moons(L) and at the appointed festivals of the Lord our God. This is a lasting ordinance for Israel.
5 “The temple I am going to build will be great,(M) because our God is greater than all other gods.(N) 6 But who is able to build a temple for him, since the heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain him?(O) Who then am I(P) to build a temple for him, except as a place to burn sacrifices before him?
7 “Send me, therefore, a man skilled to work in gold and silver, bronze and iron, and in purple, crimson and blue yarn, and experienced in the art of engraving, to work in Judah and Jerusalem with my skilled workers,(Q) whom my father David provided.
8 “Send me also cedar, juniper and algum[c] logs from Lebanon, for I know that your servants are skilled in cutting timber there. My servants will work with yours 9 to provide me with plenty of lumber, because the temple I build must be large and magnificent. 10 I will give your servants, the woodsmen who cut the timber, twenty thousand cors[d] of ground wheat, twenty thousand cors[e] of barley, twenty thousand baths[f] of wine and twenty thousand baths of olive oil.(R)”
11 Hiram king of Tyre replied by letter to Solomon:
“Because the Lord loves(S) his people, he has made you their king.”
12 And Hiram added:
“Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, who made heaven and earth!(T) He has given King David a wise son, endowed with intelligence and discernment, who will build a temple for the Lord and a palace for himself.
13 “I am sending you Huram-Abi,(U) a man of great skill, 14 whose mother was from Dan(V) and whose father was from Tyre. He is trained(W) to work in gold and silver, bronze and iron, stone and wood, and with purple and blue(X) and crimson yarn and fine linen. He is experienced in all kinds of engraving and can execute any design given to him. He will work with your skilled workers and with those of my lord, David your father.
15 “Now let my lord send his servants the wheat and barley and the olive oil(Y) and wine he promised, 16 and we will cut all the logs from Lebanon that you need and will float them as rafts by sea down to Joppa.(Z) You can then take them up to Jerusalem.”
17 Solomon took a census of all the foreigners(AA) residing in Israel, after the census(AB) his father David had taken; and they were found to be 153,600. 18 He assigned(AC) 70,000 of them to be carriers and 80,000 to be stonecutters in the hills, with 3,600 foremen over them to keep the people working.

2 And Solomon determined to build an house for the name of the Lord, and an house for his kingdom.
2 And Solomon told out threescore and ten thousand men to bear burdens, and fourscore thousand to hew in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them.
3 And Solomon sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, As thou didst deal with David my father, and didst send him cedars to build him an house to dwell therein, even so deal with me.
4 Behold, I build an house to the name of the Lord my God, to dedicate it to him, and to burn before him sweet incense, and for the continual shewbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts of the Lord our God. This is an ordinance for ever to Israel.
5 And the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods.
6 But who is able to build him an house, seeing the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him an house, save only to burn sacrifice before him?
7 Send me now therefore a man cunning to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and that can skill to grave with the cunning men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father did provide.
8 Send me also cedar trees, fir trees, and algum trees, out of Lebanon: for I know that thy servants can skill to cut timber in Lebanon; and, behold, my servants shall be with thy servants,
9 Even to prepare me timber in abundance: for the house which I am about to build shall be wonderful great.
10 And, behold, I will give to thy servants, the hewers that cut timber, twenty thousand measures of beaten wheat, and twenty thousand measures of barley, and twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil.
11 Then Huram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because the Lord hath loved his people, he hath made thee king over them.
12 Huram said moreover, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who hath given to David the king a wise son, endued with prudence and understanding, that might build an house for the Lord, and an house for his kingdom.
13 And now I have sent a cunning man, endued with understanding, of Huram my father's,
14 The son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson; also to grave any manner of graving, and to find out every device which shall be put to him, with thy cunning men, and with the cunning men of my lord David thy father.
15 Now therefore the wheat, and the barley, the oil, and the wine, which my lord hath spoken of, let him send unto his servants:
16 And we will cut wood out of Lebanon, as much as thou shalt need: and we will bring it to thee in floats by sea to Joppa; and thou shalt carry it up to Jerusalem.
17 And Solomon numbered all the strangers that were in the land of Israel, after the numbering wherewith David his father had numbered them; and they were found an hundred and fifty thousand and three thousand and six hundred.
18 And he set threescore and ten thousand of them to be bearers of burdens, and fourscore thousand to be hewers in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to set the people a work.
