所羅門定意建殿(A)
2 所羅門決意要為耶和華的名建造殿宇，又為自己建造王宮。（本節在《馬索拉文本》為1:18） 2 於是，所羅門選派了七萬人作挑夫，八萬人在山上鑿石，三千六百人作督工。（本節在《馬索拉文本》為2:1） 3 所羅門派人去見推羅王希蘭說：“你怎樣待我的父親大衛，給他運來香柏木，為他建造宮殿居住，請你也這樣待我。 4 現在我要為耶和華我 神的名建造殿宇，分別為聖獻給他，在他面前焚燒芬芳的香，經常擺上陳設餅，每日早晚、安息日、初一，以及耶和華我們的 神所定的節日，都獻上燔祭；這是以色列人永遠的定例。 5 我要建造的殿宇必須宏偉，因為我們的 神偉大，超過眾神。 6 但誰能為他建造殿宇呢？天和天上的天也容不下他；我是誰，怎能為他建造殿宇？我不過在他面前燒香罷了。 7 現在請你派一個巧匠到我這裡來，他要精於使用金、銀、銅、鐵和紫色朱紅色藍色線工作，並且懂得雕刻，好與我的父親大衛在猶大和耶路撒冷預備的巧匠一同工作。 8 又請你從黎巴嫩運送香柏木、松木和檀香木到我這裡來，因為我知道你的臣僕善於砍伐黎巴嫩的樹木；我的臣僕可以和你的臣僕一同工作。 9 給我預備大量的木材，因為我要建造的那殿宇，將會十分宏偉。 10 至於你的僕人，就是砍伐樹木的人，我必給他們食物，就是小麥四百萬公升、大麥四百萬公升、酒四十萬公升、油四十萬公升。”
推羅王答應相助(B)
11 推羅王希蘭回信給所羅門說：“耶和華因為愛自己的子民，所以立你作他們的王。” 12 希蘭又說：“創造天地的耶和華以色列的 神，是應當稱頌的！因為他賜給大衛王一個有智慧的兒子，有聰明有見識，可以為耶和華建造殿宇，為自己建造王宮。 13 現在我派一個技藝精巧、滿有聰明的人來，他是我父親希蘭的匠人。 14 他是但支派一個婦人的兒子，他的父親是推羅人。他精於使用金、銀、銅、鐵、石、木，以及紫色藍色朱紅色線和細麻作工，也能作各樣雕刻的工作，又能設計各樣交託他們的巧工。這人可以和你的巧匠，以及我主你父親大衛的巧匠一同工作。 15 我主所說的小麥、大麥、酒和油，請派人運來給眾僕人。 16 我們必照著你所需要的，從黎巴嫩砍下樹木，紮成木筏，從海上運到約帕，你可以從那裡把它們運上耶路撒冷。”

17 所羅門按照他父親大衛數點的數目，又數點了住在以色列地所有的外族人，他們共有十五萬三千六百人。 18 他選派七萬人作挑夫，八萬人在山上鑿石頭，三千六百人作監工，督促人民工作。

2 Salomone ingaggiò settantamila portatori, ottantamila scalpellini per lavorare in montagna e tremilaseicento sorveglianti.
2 Salomone mandò a dire a Chiram, re di Tiro: «Come hai fatto con mio padre Davide, al quale avevi spedito legno di cedro per la costruzione della sua dimora, fà anche con me. 3 Ecco ho deciso di costruire un tempio al nome del Signore mio Dio, per consacrarlo a lui sì che io possa bruciare profumi fragranti davanti a lui, esporre sempre i pani dell'offerta e presentare olocausti mattina e sera, nei sabati, nei noviluni e nelle feste del Signore nostro Dio. Per Israele questo è un obbligo perenne. 4 Il tempio, che io intendo costruire, deve essere grande, perché il nostro Dio è più grande di tutti gli dei. 5 Ma chi avrà la capacità di costruirgli un tempio, quando i cieli e i cieli dei cieli non bastano per contenerlo? E chi sono io perché gli costruisca un tempio, anche solo per bruciare incenso alla sua presenza? 6 Ora mandami un uomo esperto nel lavorare l'oro, l'argento, il bronzo, il ferro, filati di porpora, di cremisi e di violetto e che sappia eseguire intagli di ogni genere; egli lavorerà con gli altri artigiani che io ho in Gerusalemme e in Giuda, preparati da mio padre Davide. 7 Mandami legno di cedro, di abete e di sandalo dal Libano. Ora i miei uomini si uniranno ai tuoi 8 per prepararmi legno in grande quantità, perché il tempio che intendo costruire deve essere grande e stupendo. 9 Ecco, a quanti abbatteranno e taglieranno gli alberi io darò grano per vettovagliamento; ai tuoi uomini darò ventimila kor di grano, ventimila kor d'orzo, ventimila bat di vino e ventimila bat d'olio».
10 Chiram re di Tiro mandò per iscritto a Salomone questo messaggio: «Per l'amore che il Signore porta al suo popolo, ti ha costituito re su di esso». 11 Quindi Chiram diceva: «Sia benedetto il Signore Dio di Israele, che ha fatto il cielo e la terra, che ha concesso al re Davide un figlio saggio, pieno di senno e di intelligenza, il quale costruirà un tempio al Signore e una reggia per sé. 12 Ora ti mando un uomo esperto, pieno di saggezza, Curam-Abi, 13 figlio di una donna della tribù di Dan e di un padre di Tiro. Egli sa lavorare l'oro, l'argento, il bronzo, il ferro, le pietre, il legno, i filati di porpora, di violetto, di bisso e di cremisi; sa eseguire ogni intaglio e concretare genialmente ogni progetto gli venga sottoposto. Egli lavorerà con i tuoi artigiani e con gli artigiani del mio signore Davide tuo padre. 14 Ora il mio Signore mandi ai suoi uomini il grano, l'orzo, l'olio e il vino promessi. 15 Noi taglieremo nel Libano il legname, quanto te ne occorrerà, e te lo porteremo per mare su zattere fino a Giaffa e tu lo farai salire a Gerusalemme».

16 Salomone censì tutti gli stranieri che erano nel paese di Israele: un nuovo censimento dopo quello effettuato dal padre Davide. Ne furono trovati centocinquantatremilaseicento. 17 Ne prese settantamila come portatori, ottantamila come scalpellini perché lavorassero sulle montagne e tremilaseicento come sorveglianti perché facessero lavorare quella gente.

Preparations for Building the Temple(A)
2 [a]Solomon gave orders to build a temple(B) for the Name of the Lord and a royal palace for himself.(C) 2 He conscripted 70,000 men as carriers and 80,000 as stonecutters in the hills and 3,600 as foremen over them.(D)
3 Solomon sent this message to Hiram[b](E) king of Tyre:
“Send me cedar logs(F) as you did for my father David when you sent him cedar to build a palace to live in. 4 Now I am about to build a temple(G) for the Name of the Lord my God and to dedicate it to him for burning fragrant incense(H) before him, for setting out the consecrated bread(I) regularly, and for making burnt offerings(J) every morning and evening and on the Sabbaths,(K) at the New Moons(L) and at the appointed festivals of the Lord our God. This is a lasting ordinance for Israel.
5 “The temple I am going to build will be great,(M) because our God is greater than all other gods.(N) 6 But who is able to build a temple for him, since the heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain him?(O) Who then am I(P) to build a temple for him, except as a place to burn sacrifices before him?
7 “Send me, therefore, a man skilled to work in gold and silver, bronze and iron, and in purple, crimson and blue yarn, and experienced in the art of engraving, to work in Judah and Jerusalem with my skilled workers,(Q) whom my father David provided.
8 “Send me also cedar, juniper and algum[c] logs from Lebanon, for I know that your servants are skilled in cutting timber there. My servants will work with yours 9 to provide me with plenty of lumber, because the temple I build must be large and magnificent. 10 I will give your servants, the woodsmen who cut the timber, twenty thousand cors[d] of ground wheat, twenty thousand cors[e] of barley, twenty thousand baths[f] of wine and twenty thousand baths of olive oil.(R)”
11 Hiram king of Tyre replied by letter to Solomon:
“Because the Lord loves(S) his people, he has made you their king.”
12 And Hiram added:
“Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, who made heaven and earth!(T) He has given King David a wise son, endowed with intelligence and discernment, who will build a temple for the Lord and a palace for himself.
13 “I am sending you Huram-Abi,(U) a man of great skill, 14 whose mother was from Dan(V) and whose father was from Tyre. He is trained(W) to work in gold and silver, bronze and iron, stone and wood, and with purple and blue(X) and crimson yarn and fine linen. He is experienced in all kinds of engraving and can execute any design given to him. He will work with your skilled workers and with those of my lord, David your father.
15 “Now let my lord send his servants the wheat and barley and the olive oil(Y) and wine he promised, 16 and we will cut all the logs from Lebanon that you need and will float them as rafts by sea down to Joppa.(Z) You can then take them up to Jerusalem.”
17 Solomon took a census of all the foreigners(AA) residing in Israel, after the census(AB) his father David had taken; and they were found to be 153,600. 18 He assigned(AC) 70,000 of them to be carriers and 80,000 to be stonecutters in the hills, with 3,600 foremen over them to keep the people working.

2 And Solomon determined to build an house for the name of the Lord, and an house for his kingdom.
2 And Solomon told out threescore and ten thousand men to bear burdens, and fourscore thousand to hew in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them.
3 And Solomon sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, As thou didst deal with David my father, and didst send him cedars to build him an house to dwell therein, even so deal with me.
4 Behold, I build an house to the name of the Lord my God, to dedicate it to him, and to burn before him sweet incense, and for the continual shewbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts of the Lord our God. This is an ordinance for ever to Israel.
5 And the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods.
6 But who is able to build him an house, seeing the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him an house, save only to burn sacrifice before him?
7 Send me now therefore a man cunning to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and that can skill to grave with the cunning men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father did provide.
8 Send me also cedar trees, fir trees, and algum trees, out of Lebanon: for I know that thy servants can skill to cut timber in Lebanon; and, behold, my servants shall be with thy servants,
9 Even to prepare me timber in abundance: for the house which I am about to build shall be wonderful great.
10 And, behold, I will give to thy servants, the hewers that cut timber, twenty thousand measures of beaten wheat, and twenty thousand measures of barley, and twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil.
11 Then Huram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because the Lord hath loved his people, he hath made thee king over them.
12 Huram said moreover, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who hath given to David the king a wise son, endued with prudence and understanding, that might build an house for the Lord, and an house for his kingdom.
13 And now I have sent a cunning man, endued with understanding, of Huram my father's,
14 The son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson; also to grave any manner of graving, and to find out every device which shall be put to him, with thy cunning men, and with the cunning men of my lord David thy father.
15 Now therefore the wheat, and the barley, the oil, and the wine, which my lord hath spoken of, let him send unto his servants:
16 And we will cut wood out of Lebanon, as much as thou shalt need: and we will bring it to thee in floats by sea to Joppa; and thou shalt carry it up to Jerusalem.
17 And Solomon numbered all the strangers that were in the land of Israel, after the numbering wherewith David his father had numbered them; and they were found an hundred and fifty thousand and three thousand and six hundred.
18 And he set threescore and ten thousand of them to be bearers of burdens, and fourscore thousand to be hewers in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to set the people a work.
