मीकायाह राजा अहाब को चेतावनी देता है
18 यहोशापात के पास सम्पत्ति और सम्मान था। उसने राजा अहाब के साथ विवाह द्वारा एक सन्धि की।[a] 2 कुछ वर्ष बाद, यहोशापात शोमरोन नगर में अहाब से मिलने गया। अहाब ने बहुत सी भेड़ों और पशुओं की बलि यहोशापात और उसके साथ के आदमियों के लिये चढ़ाई। अहाब ने यहोशापात को गिलाद के रामोत नगर पर आक्रमण के लिये प्रोत्साहित किया। 3 अहाब ने यहोशापात से कहा, “क्या तुम मेरे साथ गिलाद के रामोत पर आक्रमण करने चलोगे” अहाब इस्राएल का और यहोशापात यहूदा का राजा था। यहोशापात ने अहाब को उत्तर दिया, “मैं तुम्हारी तरह हूँ और हमारे लोग तुम्हारे लोगों की तरह हैं। हम युद्ध में तुम्हारा साथ देंगे।” 4 यहोशापात ने अहाब से यह कहा, “ओओ, पहले हम यहोवा से सन्देश प्राप्त करे।”
5 इसलिए अहाब ने चार सौ नबियों को इकट्ठा किया। अहाब ने उनसे कहा, “क्या हमें गिलाद के रामोत नगर के विरुद्ध युद्ध में जाना चाहिये या नहीं”
नबियों ने अहाब को उत्तर दिया, “जाओ, क्योंकि यहोवा गिलाद के रामोत को तुम्हें पराजित करने देगा।”
6 किन्तु यहोशापात ने कहा, “क्या कोई यहाँ यहोवा का नबी है? हम लोग नबियों में से एक के द्वारा यहोवा से पूछना चाहते हैं।”
7 तब राजा अहाब ने यहोशापात से कहा, “यहाँ पर अभी एक व्यक्ति है। हम उसके माध्यम से यहोवा से पूछ सकते हैं। किन्तु मैं इस व्यक्ति से घृणा करता हूँ क्योंकि इसने कभी मेरे बारे में यहोवा से कोई अच्छा सन्देश नहीं दिया। इसने सदैव बुरा ही सन्देश मेरे लिये दिया है। इस आदमी का नाम मीकायाह है। यह यिम्ला का पुत्र है।”
किन्तु यहोशापात ने कहा, “अहाब, तुम्हें ऐसा नहीं कहेना चाहिये!”
8 तब इस्राएल के राजा अहाब ने अपने अधिकारियों में से एक को बुलाया ओर कहा, “शीघ्रता करो, यिम्ल के पुत्र मीकायाह को यहाँ लाओ!”
9 इस्राएल के राजा अहाब और यहूदा के राजा यहेशापात ने अपने राजसी वस्त्र पहन रखे थे। वे अपने सिंहासनों पर खलिहन में शोमरोन नगर के सम्मुख द्वार के निकट बैठे थे। वे चार सौ नबी अपना सन्देश दोनों राजाओं के सामने दे रहे थे। 10 सिदकिय्याह कनाना नामक व्यक्ति का पुत्र था। सिदकिय्याह ने लोहे की कुछ सींगे बनाई। सिदकिय्याह ने कहा, “यही है जो यहोवा कहता है: ‘तुम लोग लोहे की सिंगों का उपयोग तब तक अश्शूर के लोगों में घोंपने के लिये करोगे जब तक वे नष्ट न हो जायें।’” 11 सभी नबियों ने वही बात कही। उन्हो ने कहा, “गिलाद के रामेत नगर को जाओ। तुम लोग सफल होंगे और जीतोगे। यहोवा राजा और अश्शूर के लोगों को हराने देगा।”
12 जो दूत मीकायाह को लाने गया था उसने उससे कहा, “मीकायाह, सुनो, सभी नबी एक ही बात कह रहे हैं। वे कह रहे हैं कि राजा को सफलता मिलेगी। इसलिये वही कहो जो वे कह रहे हैं। तुम भी अच्छी बात कही।”
13 किन्तु मीकायाह ने उत्तर दिया, “यह वैसे ही सत्य है जैसा कि यहोवा शाश्वत है अत: मैं वही कहूँगा जो मेरा परमेश्वर कहता है।”
14 तब मीकायाह राजा अहाब के पास आया। राजा ने उससे कहा, “मीकायाह, क्या हमें युद्ध करने के लिये गिलाद के रामोत नगर को जाना चाहिये या नहीं”
मीकायाह ने कहा, “जाओ औऱ आक्रमण करो। यहोवा तुम्हें उन लोगों को हराने देगा।”
15 राजा अहोब ने मीकायाह से कहा, “कई बार मैंने तुमसे प्रतिज्ञा करवायी थी कि तुम यहोवा के नाम पर मुझे केवल सत्य बताओ!”
16 तब मीकायाह ने कहा, “मैंने इस्राएल के सभी लोगों को पहाड़ों पर बिखरे हुए देखा। वे गड़रिये के बिना भेड़ की तरह थे। यहोवा ने कहा, ‘उनका कोई नेता नही है। हर एक व्यक्ति को सुरक्षित घर लौटने दो।’”
17 इस्राएल के राजा अहाब ने यहोशापात से कहा, “मैंने कहा था कि मीकायाह मेरे लिए यहोवा से अच्छा सन्देश नही पाएगा। वह मेरे लिए केवल बुरे सन्देश रखता है!”
18 मीकायाह ने कहा, “यहोवा के सन्देश को सुनो: मैंने यहोवा को अपने सिंहासन पर बैठे देखा। स्वर्ग की पूरी सेना उसके चारों ओर खड़ी थी।[b] कुछ उसके दाहिने ओर और कुछ उसके बाँयीं ओर। 19 यहोवा ने कहा, ‘इस्राएल के राजा आहाब को कौन धोखा देगा जिससे वह गिलाद के रामोत के नगर पर आक्रमण करे और वह वहाँ मार दिया जाये’ यहोवा के चारों ओर खड़े विभिन्न लोगों ने विभिन्न उत्तर दिये। 20 तब एक आत्मा आई और वह यहोवा के सामने खड़ी हुई। उस आत्मा ने कहा, ‘मैं अहाब को धोखा दूँगी।’ यहोवा ने आत्मा से पूछा, ‘कैसे?’ 21 उस आत्मा ने उत्तर दिया, ‘मैं बाहर जाऊँगी और अहोब के नबियों के मुँह में झूठ बोलने वाली आत्मा बनूँगी’ और यहोवा ने कहो, ‘तुम्हें अहाब को धोखा देने में सफलता मिलेगी। इसलिये जाओ और इसे करो।’
22 “अहोब, अब ध्यान दो, यहोवा ने तुम्हारे नबियों के मुँह में झूठ बोलने बाली आत्मा प्रवेश कराई है। यहोवा ने कहा है कि तुम्हारे साथ बुरा घटेगा।”
23 तब सिदकिय्याह मीकायाह के पास गया और उसके मुँह पर मारा। कनाना के पुत्र सिदकिय्याह ने कहा, “मीकायाह, यहोवा की आत्मा मुझे त्याग कर तुझसे वार्तालाप करने कैसे आई?”
24 मीकायाह ने उत्तर दिया, “सिदकिय्याह, तुम उस दिन इसे जानोगे जब तुम एक भीतरी घर में छिपने जाओगे!”
25 तब राजा अहाब ने कहा, “मीकायाह को लो और इसे नगर के प्रशासक आमोन और राजा के पुत्र योआश के पास भेज दो। 26 आमोन और योआश से कहो, ‘राजा यह कहते हैं: मीकायाह को बन्दीगृह में डाल दो। उसे रोटी और पानी के अतिरिक्त तब तक कुछ खाने को न दो जब तक मैं युद्ध से न लौटूँ।’”
27 मीकायाह ने उत्तर दिया, “अहाब, यदि तुम युद्ध से सुरक्षित लौट आते हो तो यहोवा ने मेरे द्वारा नहो कहा है। तुम सभी लोग सुनों और मेरे वचन को याद रखो!”
अहाब गिलाद के रामोत में मारा गया
28 इसलिये इस्राएल के राजा अहोब और यहूदा के राजा यहोशापात ने गिलाद के रामोत नगर पर आक्रमण किया। 29 इस्राएल के राजा अहोब ने यहोशापात से कहो, “मैं युद्ध में जाने के पहले अपना रुप बदल लूँगा। किन्तु तुम अपने राजवस्त्र हो पहनों।” इसलिये इस्राएल के राजा अहोब ने अपना रुप बदल लिया और दोनों राजा युद्ध में गए।
30 अराम के राजा ने अपने रथों के रथपतियों को आदेश दिया। उसने उनसे कहो, “चाहे जितना बड़ा या छोटा कोई व्यक्ति हो उससे युद्ध न करो। किन्तु केवल इस्राएल के राजा अहाब से युद्ध करो।” 31 जब रथपतियों ने यहोशापात को देखा उन्ह ने सोचा, “वही इस्राएल का राजा अहाब है!” वे यहोशापात पर आक्रमण करने के लिये उसकी ओर मुड़े। किन्तु यहोशापात ने उद्घोष किया और यहोवा ने उसकी सहायात की। परमेश्वर ने रथपतियों को यहोशापात के सामने से दूर मुड़ जाने दिया। 32 जब उन्ह ने समझा कि यहोशापात इस्राएल का राजा नहो है उन्ह ने उसका पीछा करना छोड़ दिया।
33 किन्तु एक सैनिक से बिना किसी लक्ष्य बेध के धनुष से बाण छूट गया। उस बाण ने इस्राएल के राजा अहाब को बेध दिया। इसने, अहाब के कवच के खुले भाग में बेधा। अहाब ने अपने रथ के सारथी से कहा, “पीछे मुड़ो और मुझे युद्ध से बाहर ले चलो। मैं घायल हो गया हूँ!”
34 उस दिन युद्ध अधिक बुरी तरह लड़ा गया। अहाब ने अपने रथ में अरामियों का सामना करते हुए शाम तक अपने को संभाले रखा। तब अहाब सूर्य डूबने पर मर गया।

Micaiah Prophesies Against Ahab(A)
18 Now Jehoshaphat had great wealth and honor,(B) and he allied(C) himself with Ahab(D) by marriage. 2 Some years later he went down to see Ahab in Samaria. Ahab slaughtered many sheep and cattle for him and the people with him and urged him to attack Ramoth Gilead. 3 Ahab king of Israel asked Jehoshaphat king of Judah, “Will you go with me against Ramoth Gilead?”
Jehoshaphat replied, “I am as you are, and my people as your people; we will join you in the war.” 4 But Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, “First seek the counsel of the Lord.”
5 So the king of Israel brought together the prophets—four hundred men—and asked them, “Shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I not?”
“Go,” they answered, “for God will give it into the king’s hand.”
6 But Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there no longer a prophet of the Lord here whom we can inquire of?”
7 The king of Israel answered Jehoshaphat, “There is still one prophet through whom we can inquire of the Lord, but I hate him because he never prophesies anything good about me, but always bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.”
“The king should not say such a thing,” Jehoshaphat replied.
8 So the king of Israel called one of his officials and said, “Bring Micaiah son of Imlah at once.”
9 Dressed in their royal robes, the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting on their thrones at the threshing floor by the entrance of the gate of Samaria, with all the prophets prophesying before them. 10 Now Zedekiah son of Kenaanah had made iron horns, and he declared, “This is what the Lord says: ‘With these you will gore the Arameans until they are destroyed.’”
11 All the other prophets were prophesying the same thing. “Attack Ramoth Gilead(E) and be victorious,” they said, “for the Lord will give it into the king’s hand.”
12 The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, “Look, the other prophets without exception are predicting success for the king. Let your word agree with theirs, and speak favorably.”
13 But Micaiah said, “As surely as the Lord lives, I can tell him only what my God says.”(F)
14 When he arrived, the king asked him, “Micaiah, shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I not?”
“Attack and be victorious,” he answered, “for they will be given into your hand.”
15 The king said to him, “How many times must I make you swear to tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the Lord?”
16 Then Micaiah answered, “I saw all Israel(G) scattered on the hills like sheep without a shepherd,(H) and the Lord said, ‘These people have no master. Let each one go home in peace.’”
17 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Didn’t I tell you that he never prophesies anything good about me, but only bad?”
18 Micaiah continued, “Therefore hear the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on his throne(I) with all the multitudes of heaven standing on his right and on his left. 19 And the Lord said, ‘Who will entice Ahab king of Israel into attacking Ramoth Gilead and going to his death there?’
“One suggested this, and another that. 20 Finally, a spirit came forward, stood before the Lord and said, ‘I will entice him.’
“‘By what means?’ the Lord asked.
21 “‘I will go and be a deceiving spirit(J) in the mouths of all his prophets,’ he said.
“‘You will succeed in enticing him,’ said the Lord. ‘Go and do it.’
22 “So now the Lord has put a deceiving spirit in the mouths of these prophets of yours.(K) The Lord has decreed disaster for you.”
23 Then Zedekiah son of Kenaanah went up and slapped(L) Micaiah in the face. “Which way did the spirit from[a] the Lord go when he went from me to speak to you?” he asked.
24 Micaiah replied, “You will find out on the day you go to hide in an inner room.”
25 The king of Israel then ordered, “Take Micaiah and send him back to Amon the ruler of the city and to Joash the king’s son, 26 and say, ‘This is what the king says: Put this fellow in prison(M) and give him nothing but bread and water until I return safely.’”
27 Micaiah declared, “If you ever return safely, the Lord has not spoken through me.” Then he added, “Mark my words, all you people!”
Ahab Killed at Ramoth Gilead(N)
28 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead. 29 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will enter the battle in disguise, but you wear your royal robes.” So the king of Israel disguised(O) himself and went into battle.
30 Now the king of Aram had ordered his chariot commanders, “Do not fight with anyone, small or great, except the king of Israel.” 31 When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, “This is the king of Israel.” So they turned to attack him, but Jehoshaphat cried out,(P) and the Lord helped him. God drew them away from him, 32 for when the chariot commanders saw that he was not the king of Israel, they stopped pursuing him.
33 But someone drew his bow at random and hit the king of Israel between the breastplate and the scale armor. The king told the chariot driver, “Wheel around and get me out of the fighting. I’ve been wounded.” 34 All day long the battle raged, and the king of Israel propped himself up in his chariot facing the Arameans until evening. Then at sunset he died.(Q)

Micaiah Warns Ahab(A)
18 Jehoshaphat (B)had riches and honor in abundance; and by marriage he (C)allied himself with (D)Ahab. 2 (E)After some years he went down to visit Ahab in Samaria; and Ahab killed sheep and oxen in abundance for him and the people who were with him, and persuaded him to go up with him to Ramoth Gilead. 3 So Ahab king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, “Will you go with me against Ramoth Gilead?”
And he answered him, “I am as you are, and my people as your people; we will be with you in the war.”
4 Also Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, (F)“Please inquire for the word of the Lord today.”
5 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said to them, “Shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I refrain?”
So they said, “Go up, for God will deliver it into the king’s hand.”
6 But Jehoshaphat said, “Is there not still a prophet of the Lord here, that we may inquire of (G)Him?”[a]
7 So the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is still one man by whom we may inquire of the Lord; but I hate him, because he never prophesies good concerning me, but always evil. He is Micaiah the son of Imla.”
And Jehoshaphat said, “Let not the king say such things!”
8 Then the king of Israel called one of his officers and said, “Bring Micaiah the son of Imla quickly!”
9 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah, clothed in their robes, sat each on his throne; and they sat at a threshing floor at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them. 10 Now Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah had made (H)horns of iron for himself; and he said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘With these you shall gore the Syrians until they are destroyed.’ ”
11 And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, “Go up to Ramoth Gilead and prosper, for the Lord will deliver it into the king’s hand.”
12 Then the messenger who had gone to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, “Now listen, the words of the prophets with one accord encourage the king. Therefore please let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak encouragement.”
13 And Micaiah said, “As the Lord lives, (I)whatever my God says, that I will speak.”
14 Then he came to the king; and the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I refrain?”
And he said, “Go and prosper, and they shall be delivered into your hand!”
15 So the king said to him, “How many times shall I make you swear that you tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the Lord?”
16 Then he said, “I saw all Israel (J)scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no (K)shepherd. And the Lord said, ‘These have no master. Let each return to his house in peace.’ ”
17 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Did I not tell you he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?”
18 Then Micaiah said, “Therefore hear the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on His (L)throne, and all the host of heaven standing on His right hand and His left. 19 And the Lord said, ‘Who will persuade Ahab king of Israel to go up, that he may fall at Ramoth Gilead?’ So one spoke in this manner, and another spoke in that manner. 20 Then a (M)spirit came forward and stood before the Lord, and said, ‘I will persuade him.’ The Lord said to him, ‘In what way?’ 21 So he said, ‘I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ And the Lord said, ‘You shall persuade him and also prevail; go out and do so.’ 22 Therefore look! (N)The Lord has put a lying spirit in the mouth of these prophets of yours, and the Lord has declared disaster against you.”
23 Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near and (O)struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, “Which way did the spirit from the Lord go from me to speak to you?”
24 And Micaiah said, “Indeed you shall see on that day when you go into an inner chamber to hide!”
25 Then the king of Israel said, “Take Micaiah, and return him to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king’s son; 26 and say, ‘Thus says the king: (P)“Put this fellow in prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and water of affliction, until I return in peace.” ’ ”
27 But Micaiah said, “If you ever return in peace, the Lord has not spoken by (Q)me.” And he said, “Take heed, all you people!”
Ahab Dies in Battle(R)
28 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead. 29 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will (S)disguise myself and go into battle; but you put on your robes.” So the king of Israel disguised himself, and they went into battle.
30 Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of the chariots who were with him, saying, “Fight with no one small or great, but only with the king of Israel.”
31 So it was, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, “It is the king of Israel!” Therefore they surrounded him to attack; but Jehoshaphat (T)cried out, and the Lord helped him, and God diverted them from him. 32 For so it was, when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him. 33 Now a certain man drew a bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the [b]joints of his armor. So he said to the driver of his chariot, “Turn around and take me out of the battle, for I am wounded.” 34 The battle increased that day, and the king of Israel propped himself up in his chariot facing the Syrians until evening; and about the time of sunset he died.

Joshafat i allians med Achav
(1 Kung 22:1-28)
18 Joshafat hade vunnit stor rikedom och ära och ingick genom giftermål en allians med Achav. 2 Några år senare kom han på besök till Achav i Samaria. Achav lät slakta en mängd får och oxar åt honom och folket som var med honom och försökte förmå honom att tåga mot Ramot i Gilead.
3 Achav, Israels kung, frågade Joshafat, Juda kung: ”Vill du dra ut med mig mot Ramot i Gilead?” Han svarade honom: ”Jag, liksom du, och mitt folk liksom ditt, vill vara med dig i kriget.” 4 ”Men”, tillade Joshafat till den israelitiske kungen, ”låt oss först fråga Herren till råds.”
5 Då kallade Israels kung samman profeterna, fyrahundra man, och frågade dem: ”Ska vi dra ut i strid mot Ramot i Gilead, eller ska jag låta bli?” De svarade: ”Gå, för Gud ska överlämna den i kungens hand.”
6 Men Joshafat frågade: ”Finns det inte någon mer Herrens profet här, som vi också kan fråga?” 7 ”Jo”, svarade Israels kung Joshafat, ”det finns en till som kan rådfråga Herren åt oss, men honom hatar jag, för han profeterar aldrig något gott för mig, utan bara ont. Det är Mika, Jimlas son.” ”Kungen bör inte tala så”, svarade Joshafat.
8 Israels kung kallade då till sig en av sina tjänstemän. ”Skynda dig och hämta hit Mika, Jimlas son”, befallde han.
9 Israels kung och Joshafat, Juda kung, satt på var sin tron i sina kungliga kläder på tröskplatsen vid Samarias stadsport, och alla profeterna profeterade inför dem. 10 Sidkia, Kenaanas son, gjorde sig horn av järn och förklarade: ”Så säger Herren: ’Du ska stånga Aram med dessa horn tills de förgörs.’ ” 11 Alla de andra profeterade detsamma: ”Ja, anfall Ramot i Gilead och du ska lyckas, för Herren kommer att överlämna staden i kungens hand.” 12 Budbäraren, som hade gått för att kalla på Mika, berättade för honom: ”Profeterna förkunnade med en mun framgång för kungen. Låt nu också dina ord stämma med deras och lova framgång!” 13 Men Mika svarade: ”Så sant Herren lever, jag ska bara säga honom det min Gud säger.”
14 När han kom fram inför kungen, frågade denne honom: ”Mika, ska vi dra ut i strid mot Ramot i Gilead, eller ska jag låta bli?” Och Mika svarade: ”Gå, och ni ska lyckas! De ska överlämnas i er hand.”
15 Kungen sa till honom: ”Hur många gånger måste jag besvärja dig att inte tala något annat än sanning i Herrens namn?” 16 Då svarade Mika: ”Jag såg hela Israel förskingrat på bergen, som får utan herde. Och Herren sa: ’De har ingen herre. Låt dem återvända hem i fred, var och en till sitt.’ ”
17 Israels kung sa till Joshafat: ”Var det inte det jag sa? Han profeterar inte något gott för mig, utan bara ont.”
18 Mika fortsatte: ”Hör här vad Herren säger! Jag såg Herren sitta på sin tron, och himlens hela härskara stod på bägge sidorna om honom. 19 Herren sa: ’Vem kan locka Israels kung Achav att gå ut i strid mot Ramot i Gilead och stupa där?’
Då sa den ene si och den andre så. 20 Då kom en ande fram och ställde sig inför Herren och sa: ’Jag kan locka honom.’ ’Hur?’ frågade Herren honom. 21 Han svarade: ’Jag ska gå och bli en lögnens ande i munnen på alla kungens profeter.’ Herren svarade: ’Locka honom, du! Du kommer att lyckas. Gå och gör så!’
22 Herren har alltså lagt en lögnens ande i munnen på dessa dina profeter, för Herren har bestämt att olycka ska drabba dig.”
23 Då gick Sidkia, Kenaanas son, fram och slog Mika i ansiktet. ”Skulle Herrens Ande ha lämnat mig för att tala till dig?” frågade han. 24 ”Det ska du komma underfund med den dag du går för att gömma dig i det innersta rummet”, svarade Mika.
25 Israels kung befallde: ”Arrestera Mika och för honom tillbaka till styresmannen Amon och till kungens son Joash”, 26 och säg till dem: ”Så säger kungen: Sätt den här mannen i fängelse på vatten och bröd, tills jag kommer välbehållen tillbaka.”
27 Mika svarade: ”Om du kommer välbehållen tillbaka, så har Herren inte talat genom mig.” Sedan tillade han: ”Hör detta, alla folk[a]!”
Achav dör på stridsfältet
28 Israels kung och Joshafat, Juda kung, tågade nu mot Ramot i Gilead.
29 Israels kung sa till Joshafat: ”Jag ska förklä mig och dra ut i striden, men du kan bära dina egna kläder.” Israels kung drog alltså ut i striden förklädd.
30 Nu hade Arams kung gett order till sina vagnsofficerare att inte ge sig i strid mot någon annan än Israels kung. 31 När vagnsofficerare fick syn på Joshafat, tänkte de: ”Det här är Israels kung.” De omringade honom för att anfalla honom, men Joshafat ropade till och Herren hjälpte honom och drog bort dem ifrån honom. 32 Så snart vagnsofficerarna märkte att det inte var Israels kung, slutade de att förfölja honom.
33 Men någon spände sin båge och sköt på måfå och träffade Israels kung i en springa i rustningen. Kungen sa till kusken: ”Vänd vagnen och ta mig ut ur striden! Jag är sårad.”
34 Striden blev allt intensivare ju längre dagen led. Kungen stod kvar i sin vagn, vänd mot araméerna, ända till kvällen, men vid solnedgången dog han.
