约沙法作犹大王(A)
17 亚撒的儿子约沙法接续他作王；约沙法发愤图强，对抗以色列人。 2 他把军队安置在犹大的一切设防城里，又在犹大地和他父亲亚撒占领的以法莲各城里驻扎防军。 3 耶和华和约沙法同在，因为他遵行了他祖先大卫最初所行的道路，没有寻求巴力。 4 只寻求他父亲的 神，遵行 神的诫命，没有随从以色列人的行为。 5 因此，耶和华使他统治的国稳固；犹大各地都给他进贡，所以约沙法的财富很多，极有尊荣。 6 他勇敢地遵行耶和华的道路，并且从犹大地中除掉邱坛和亚舍拉。
以律法训勉人民
7 他作王第三年，就差派他的大臣便．亥伊勒、俄巴底、撒迦利雅、拿坦业、米该亚，到犹大各城去教训人。 8 和他们同去的，还有示玛雅、尼探雅、西巴第雅、亚撒黑、示米拉末、约拿单、亚多尼雅、多比雅和驼．巴多尼雅等几位利未人；又有以利沙玛和约兰两位祭司和他们同去。 9 他们带着耶和华的律法书，在犹大教训人；他们走遍犹大各城，在民间教训人。
约沙法的声威
10 犹大地周围的列国都惧怕耶和华，不敢和约沙法交战。 11 有些非利士人送礼和纳贡银给约沙法；阿拉伯人也送给他公绵羊七千七百只，公山羊七千七百只。 12 约沙法逐渐变得十分强大，在犹大建造了几座堡垒和贮藏货物的城市。 13 他在犹大各城中储备了大批物资；在耶路撒冷也有不少战士，都是英勇的战士。 14 他们的数目，按着他们的家族记在下面：犹大支派的千夫长中，有押拿军长，率领英勇的战士三十万； 15 在押拿底下，是约哈难军长，率领二十八万人； 16 在约哈难底下，是细基利的儿子亚玛斯雅，他是个甘愿献身给耶和华的人，率领英勇的战士二十万。 17 便雅悯支派中有英勇的战士以利雅大，率领配备弓箭和盾牌的人二十万， 18 在以利雅大底下是约萨拔，率领常备军十八万。 19 这些人都是服事王的；还有王在犹大全地各设防城里安置的，没有计算在内。

17 आसा के स्थान पर यहोशापात यहूदा का नया राजा हुआ। यहोशापात आसा का पुत्र था। यहोशापात ने यहूदा को शक्तिशाली बनाया जिससे वे इस्राएल के विरुद्ध लड़ सकते थे। 2 उसने यहूदा के उन सभी नगरों में सेना की टुकड़ियाँ रखीं जो किले बना दिये गए थे। यहोशापात ने यहूदा और एप्रैम के उन नगरों में किले बनाए जिन्हें उसके पिता ने अपने अधिकार में किया था।

7 यहोशापात ने अपने प्रमुखों को यहूदा के नगरों में उपदेश देने के लिये भेजा। यह यहोशापात के राज्यकाल के तीसरे वर्ष हुआ। वे प्रमुख बेन्हैल, ओबद्याह, जकर्याह, नतनेल और मीकायाह थे। 8 यहोशापात ने इन प्रमुखों के साथ लेवीवंशियों को भी भेजा। ये लेवीवंशी शमायाह, नतन्याह, असाहेल, शमीरामोत, यहोनातान, अदोनिय्याह और तोबिय्याह थे। यहोशापात ने याजक एलीशामा और यहोराम को भेजा। 9 उन प्रमुखों, लेवीवंशियों और याजकों ने यहूदा में लोगों को शिक्षा दी। उनके पास यहोवा के नियमों की पुस्तक थी। वे यहूदा के सभी नगरों में गये और लोगों को उन्होंने शिक्षा दी।
10 यहूदा के आसपास के नगर यहोवा से डरते थे। यही कारण था कि उन्होंने यहोशापात के विरुद्ध युद्ध नहीं छेड़ा। 11 कुछ पलिश्ती लोग यहोशापात के पास भेंट लाए। वे यहोशापात के पास चाँदी भी लाए क्योंकि वे जानते थे कि वह बहुत शक्तिशाली राजा है। कुछ अरब के लोग यहोशापात के पास रेवड़े लाये। वे उसके पास सात हज़ार सात सौ भेड़ें और सात हज़ार सात सौ बकरियाँ लाए।
12 यहोशापात अधिक से अधिक शक्तिशाली होता गया। उसने किले और भण्डार नगर यहूदा देश में बनाये। 13 उसने बहुत सी सामग्री भण्डार नगरों में रखी और यहोशापात ने यरूशलेम में प्रशिक्षित सैनिक रखे। 14 उन सैनिकों की अपने परिवार समूह में गिनती थी। यरूशलेम के उन सैनिकों की सूची ये हैः
यहूदा के परिवार समूह से ये सेनाध्यक्ष थेः
अदना तीन लाख सैनिकों का सेनाध्यक्ष था।
15 यहोहानान दो लाख अस्सी हज़ार सैनिकों का सेनाध्यक्ष था।
16 अमस्याह दो लाख सैनिकों का सेनाध्यक्ष था। अमस्याह जिक्री का पुत्र था। अमस्याह अपने को यहोवा की सेवा में अर्पित करने में प्रसन्न था।
17 बिन्यामीन के परिवार समूह से ये सेनाध्यक्ष थेः
एलयादा के पास दो लाख सैनिक थे जो धनुष, बाण और ढाल का उपयोग करते थे। एल्यादा एक साहसी सैनिक था।
18 यहोजाबाद के पास एक लाख अस्सी हज़ार व्यक्ति युद्ध के लिये तैयार थे।
19 वे सभी सैनिक यहोशापात की सेवा करते थे। राजा ने पूरे यहूदा देश के किलों में अन्य व्यक्तियों को भी रखा था।

Jehoshaphat Reigns in Judah
17 Then (A)Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his place, and strengthened himself against Israel. 2 And he placed troops in all the fortified cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of (B)Judah and in the cities of Ephraim (C)which Asa his father had taken. 3 Now the Lord was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the former ways of his father David; he did not seek the Baals, 4 but sought [a]the God of his father, and walked in His commandments and not according to (D)the acts of Israel. 5 Therefore the Lord established the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah (E)gave presents to Jehoshaphat, (F)and he had riches and honor in abundance. 6 And his heart took delight in the ways of the Lord; moreover (G)he removed the [b]high places and wooden images from Judah.
7 Also in the third year of his reign he sent his leaders, Ben-Hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Michaiah, (H)to teach in the cities of Judah. 8 And with them he sent Levites: Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tobadonijah—the Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, the priests. 9 (I)So they taught in Judah, and had the Book of the Law of the Lord with them; they went throughout all the cities of Judah and taught the people.
10 And (J)the fear of the Lord fell on all the kingdoms of the lands that were around Judah, so that they did not make war against Jehoshaphat. 11 Also some of the Philistines (K)brought Jehoshaphat presents and silver as tribute; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand seven hundred rams and seven thousand seven hundred male goats.
12 So Jehoshaphat became increasingly powerful, and he built fortresses and storage cities in Judah. 13 He had much property in the cities of Judah; and the men of war, mighty men of valor, were in Jerusalem.
14 These are their numbers, according to their fathers’ houses. Of Judah, the captains of thousands: Adnah the captain, and with him three hundred thousand mighty men of valor; 15 and next to him was Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand; 16 and next to him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, (L)who willingly offered himself to the Lord, and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valor. 17 Of Benjamin: Eliada a mighty man of valor, and with him two hundred thousand men armed with bow and shield; 18 and next to him was Jehozabad, and with him one hundred and eighty thousand prepared for war. 19 These served the king, besides (M)those the king put in the fortified cities throughout all Judah.
