亚撒作犹大王(A)
14 亚比雅和他的列祖同睡，埋葬在大卫城里，他的儿子亚撒接续他作王。亚撒在世的日子，国中太平了十年。（本节在《马索拉文本》为13:23）
2 亚撒行耶和华他的 神看为善为正的事。（本节在《马索拉文本》为14:1） 3 他除掉外族人的祭坛和邱坛，打断神柱，砍下亚舍拉， 4 吩咐犹大人寻求耶和华他们列祖的 神，遵行他的律法和诫命。 5 他又在犹大各城中，除掉邱坛和香坛。那时全国在他的统治下享受太平。 6 他又在犹大建造了几座设防城，因为国中太平，多年没有战争，耶和华使他享受安宁。 7 他对犹大人说：“我们要建造这些城，在四周筑墙，建造城楼，安设城门，制作门闩。这地还属于我们，是因为我们寻求耶和华我们的 神；我们既然寻求他，他就使我们四境平安。”于是他们兴工建造，事事顺利。 8 亚撒的军队，拿大盾牌和矛枪的犹大人，共有三十万；拿小盾牌和拉弓的便雅悯人，共有二十八万；他们都是英勇的战士。
亚撒战胜古实人谢拉
9 那时有古实人谢拉率领一百万军队，战车三百辆，前来攻打犹大人；他来到了玛利沙。 10 于是亚撒出去迎战；他们就在玛利沙的洗法谷列阵相对。 11 亚撒呼求耶和华他的 神说：“耶和华啊，强弱悬殊，除你以外没有别的帮助。耶和华我们的 神啊，求你帮助我们。因为我们倚靠你，奉你的名去对抗这大军。耶和华啊，你是我们的 神，不要让人胜过你。” 12 于是耶和华在亚撒和犹大人面前，使古实人大败，古实人就逃跑。 13 亚撒和跟随他的人民追赶他们，直到基拉耳；古实人被杀的很多，不能恢复强盛；因为他们在耶和华和他的军队面前被击溃了；犹大人夺取了极多战利品。 14 他们又攻击基拉耳周围的一切城市，因为各城的人都惧怕耶和华。犹大人又把各城洗掠一空，因为城中的财物甚多。 15 他们又毁坏了牲畜的棚，牵走了很多的羊和骆驼，然后回耶路撒冷去了。

14 [a]Abías durmió con sus padres, y lo sepultaron en la ciudad de David, y su hijo Asa reinó en su lugar(A). El país estuvo en paz por diez años durante sus días.
2 [b]Asa hizo lo bueno y lo recto ante los ojos del Señor su Dios, 3 porque quitó los altares extranjeros y los lugares altos, destruyó los pilares sagrados, derribó las Aseras[c](B). 4 También ordenó a Judá que buscara al Señor, Dios de sus padres y cumpliera la ley y el mandamiento de Él. 5 Quitó además los lugares altos y los altares de incienso[d](C) de todas las ciudades de Judá. Y bajo él, el reino estuvo en paz. 6 Edificó ciudades fortificadas en Judá(D), ya que el país estaba en paz y nadie estuvo en guerra con él[e] durante aquellos años, porque el Señor le había dado tranquilidad(E).
7 Por tanto Asa dijo a Judá: «Edifiquemos estas ciudades y cerquémoslas de murallas con torres, puertas y barras(F). La tierra es aún nuestra[f], porque hemos buscado al Señor nuestro Dios. Lo hemos buscado, y Él nos ha dado tranquilidad por todas partes». Así que edificaron y prosperaron. 8 Asa tenía un ejército de 300,000 hombres de Judá que llevaban escudos grandes y lanzas, y 280,000 de Benjamín que llevaban escudos y usaban arcos. Todos ellos eran valientes guerreros(G).
9 Zera el etíope salió contra ellos con un ejército de 1,000,000 de hombres y 300 carros(H), y vino hasta Maresa(I). 10 Asa salió a su encuentro[g], y se pusieron en orden de batalla en el valle de Sefata junto a Maresa. 11 Entonces Asa invocó al Señor su Dios(J), y dijo: «Señor, no hay nadie más que Tú para ayudar en la batalla entre el poderoso y los que no tienen fuerza. Ayúdanos, oh Señor Dios nuestro, porque en Ti nos apoyamos(K) y en Tu nombre hemos venido contra esta multitud. Oh Señor, Tú eres nuestro Dios; que no prevalezca ningún hombre contra Ti».
12 Y el Señor derrotó[h] a los etíopes delante de Asa y delante de Judá(L), y los etíopes huyeron. 13 Pero Asa y el pueblo que estaba con él los persiguieron hasta Gerar(M). Cayeron tantos etíopes que no pudieron rehacerse[i], porque fueron destrozados delante del Señor y delante de Su ejército. Los de Judá recogieron muchísimo botín. 14 Después destruyeron[j] todas las ciudades alrededor de Gerar, porque el terror del Señor había caído sobre ellas(N); y todas las saquearon, pues había mucho botín en ellas. 15 También hirieron a los que poseían[k] ganado, y se llevaron gran cantidad de ovejas y camellos. Entonces regresaron a Jerusalén.

14 [a]And Abijah rested with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David. Asa his son succeeded him as king, and in his days the country was at peace for ten years.
Asa King of Judah(A)
2 Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God.(B) 3 He removed the foreign altars(C) and the high places, smashed the sacred stones(D) and cut down the Asherah poles.[b](E) 4 He commanded Judah to seek the Lord,(F) the God of their ancestors, and to obey his laws and commands. 5 He removed the high places(G) and incense altars(H) in every town in Judah, and the kingdom was at peace under him. 6 He built up the fortified cities of Judah, since the land was at peace. No one was at war with him during those years, for the Lord gave him rest.(I)
7 “Let us build up these towns,” he said to Judah, “and put walls around them, with towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours, because we have sought the Lord our God; we sought him and he has given us rest(J) on every side.” So they built and prospered.
8 Asa had an army of three hundred thousand(K) men from Judah, equipped with large shields and with spears, and two hundred and eighty thousand from Benjamin, armed with small shields and with bows. All these were brave fighting men.
9 Zerah the Cushite(L) marched out against them with an army of thousands upon thousands and three hundred chariots, and came as far as Mareshah.(M) 10 Asa went out to meet him, and they took up battle positions in the Valley of Zephathah near Mareshah.
11 Then Asa called(N) to the Lord his God and said, “Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us,(O) Lord our God, for we rely(P) on you, and in your name(Q) we have come against this vast army. Lord, you are our God; do not let mere mortals prevail(R) against you.”
12 The Lord struck down(S) the Cushites before Asa and Judah. The Cushites fled, 13 and Asa and his army pursued them as far as Gerar.(T) Such a great number of Cushites fell that they could not recover; they were crushed(U) before the Lord and his forces. The men of Judah carried off a large amount of plunder.(V) 14 They destroyed all the villages around Gerar, for the terror(W) of the Lord had fallen on them. They looted all these villages, since there was much plunder there. 15 They also attacked the camps of the herders and carried off droves of sheep and goats and camels. Then they returned to Jerusalem.

2 Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God, 3 for he removed the altars of the foreign gods and (C)the [a]high places, and (D)broke down the sacred pillars (E)and cut down the wooden images. 4 He commanded Judah to (F)seek the Lord God of their fathers, and to observe the law and the commandment. 5 He also removed the [b]high places and the incense altars from all the cities of Judah, and the kingdom was quiet under him. 6 And he built fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest; he had no war in those years, because the Lord had given him (G)rest. 7 Therefore he said to Judah, “Let us build these cities and make walls around them, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us, because we have sought the Lord our God; we have sought Him, and He has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered. 8 And Asa had an army of three hundred thousand from Judah who carried [c]shields and spears, and from Benjamin two hundred and eighty thousand men who carried shields and drew (H)bows; all these were mighty men of (I)valor.
9 (J)Then Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million men and three hundred chariots, and he came to (K)Mareshah. 10 So Asa went out against him, and they set the troops in battle array in the Valley of Zephathah at Mareshah. 11 And Asa (L)cried out to the Lord his God, and said, “Lord, it is (M)nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us, O Lord our God, for we rest on You, and (N)in Your name we go against this multitude. O Lord, You are our God; do not let man prevail against You!”
12 So the Lord (O)struck the Ethiopians before Asa and Judah, and the Ethiopians fled. 13 And Asa and the people who were with him pursued them to (P)Gerar. So the Ethiopians were overthrown, and they could not recover, for they were broken before the Lord and His army. And they carried away very much [d]spoil. 14 Then they defeated all the cities around Gerar, for (Q)the fear of the Lord came upon them; and they plundered all the cities, for there was exceedingly much [e]spoil in them. 15 They also [f]attacked the livestock enclosures, and carried off sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
