埃及侵犯犹大
12 罗波安王位稳定、国势强盛后，就离弃耶和华的律法，以色列人也都随从他。 2 罗波安王执政第五年，埃及王示撒上来攻打耶路撒冷，因为犹大君民对耶和华不忠。 3 示撒率领一千二百辆战车、六万骑兵及无数的路比人、苏基人和古实人。 4 他攻陷了犹大的坚城，直逼耶路撒冷。
5 那时，犹大各首领因为战事都聚集在耶路撒冷。示玛雅先知去见罗波安和众首领，对他们说：“耶和华说，‘你们背弃了我，所以我也要离弃你们，把你们交在示撒手中。’” 6 王与以色列的众首领听了，就谦卑下来说：“耶和华是公义的。” 7 耶和华见他们谦卑下来，就对示玛雅说：“既然他们谦卑下来，我就不灭绝他们，给他们留一条生路。我也不会借示撒向耶路撒冷倾倒我的愤怒。 8 然而，他们必做示撒的仆人，好让他们体验事奉我和服侍世上的君王的不同。”
9 埃及王示撒带兵攻陷了耶路撒冷，把耶和华殿里和王宫里的财宝及所罗门造的金盾牌掳掠一空。 10 罗波安王就造了铜盾牌代替金盾牌，交给看守宫门的护卫长看管。 11 每次王进耶和华的殿，护卫兵就带上盾牌，用完后放回护卫房。 12 王谦卑下来后，耶和华便不再向他发怒，没有将他完全毁灭。况且，在犹大还有一些善事。
罗波安逝世
13 罗波安王在耶路撒冷巩固了自己的势力，继续做王。他四十一岁登基，在耶路撒冷执政十七年。耶和华从以色列众支派中选择耶路撒冷作为立祂名的城。罗波安的母亲叫拿玛，是亚扪人。 14 罗波安行为邪恶，因为他不专心寻求耶和华。
15 他执政期间的事件自始至终都记在示玛雅先知和易多先见的史记上。罗波安与耶罗波安之间常有争战。 16 罗波安与祖先同眠后，葬在大卫城。他儿子亚比雅继位。

De koning van Egypte valt Juda aan
12 Toen Rehabeam machtig was geworden, verliet hij God. Hij hield zich niet meer aan de wet van de Heer. Daardoor verliet ook het volk de Heer. 2 Voor straf zorgde de Heer ervoor dat koning Sisak van Egypte Jeruzalem aanviel. Dat gebeurde toen koning Rehabeam vijf jaar koning was. 3 Koning Sisak kwam met 1200 strijdwagens, 60.000 ruiters en een ontelbaar groot aantal mannen te voet: Libiërs, Sukkieten en Ethiopiërs. 4 Hij veroverde de versterkte steden die bij Juda hoorden en rukte op tot aan Jeruzalem.
5 Toen ging de profeet Semaja naar Rehabeam en de aanvoerders van Juda. Zij waren samengekomen in Jeruzalem, vanwege de komst van Sisak. Hij zei tegen hen: "Dit zegt de Heer: Jullie hebben Mij verlaten. Daarom heb Ik nu júllie verlaten. Ik geef jullie in de macht van Sisak." 6 Toen gaven de koning en de aanvoerders toe dat ze verkeerd hadden gedaan tegen de Heer. Ze hadden echt spijt en zeiden: "De Heer heeft gelijk dat Hij dit doet." 7 Toen de Heer zag dat ze werkelijk spijt hadden, zei Hij tegen Semaja: "Ik heb gezien dat ze werkelijk spijt hebben. Daarom zal Ik hen nog net redden. Ik zal ervoor zorgen dat Sisak de bewoners van Jeruzalem niet zal doden. 8 Maar ze zullen hem wel moeten dienen. Dan zullen ze toegeven dat het beter is om Míj te dienen dan een aardse koning."
9 Koning Sisak van Egypte veroverde Jeruzalem. Hij nam alle schatten mee uit de tempel van de Heer en uit het paleis van de koning. Alles nam hij mee, ook de gouden schilden die Salomo had gemaakt. 10 Toen maakte koning Rehabeam in plaats daarvan koperen schilden. Die liet hij bewaken door de aanvoerder van de paleiswacht. 11 Elke keer als de koning naar de tempel van de Heer ging, droegen de soldaten van de wacht de koperen schilden. Daarna brachten ze de schilden weer terug naar de kamer van de wacht.
12 Omdat Rehabeam echt spijt had gehad, liet de Heer hem niet doden door Sisak. Ook in Juda zag Hij nog wel goede dingen.
13 Koning Rehabeam was een machtig koning. Hij was 41 jaar toen hij koning werd. Hij regeerde 17 jaar in Jeruzalem, de stad die de Heer had uitgekozen om daar te wonen. Zijn moeder was Naäma, uit Ammon. 14 Hij leefde niet zoals de Heer het wil, want hij hield niet van de Heer. 15 De rest van wat Rehabeam allemaal heeft gedaan,[a] vanaf het begin van zijn regering tot aan het einde, is opgeschreven door de profeten Semaja en Iddo. Zij hebben ook de namenlijst van zijn familie opgeschreven. Er was aldoor oorlog tussen Rehabeam en Jerobeam. 16 Rehabeam stierf en werd begraven bij de andere koningen in de 'Stad van David'. Zijn zoon Abiam werd na hem koning van Juda.

Egypt Attacks Judah
12 When the rule of Rehoboam was established and he grew strong, he abandoned the law of the Lord, he and all Israel with him. 2 In the fifth year of King Rehoboam, because they had been unfaithful to the Lord, King Shishak of Egypt came up against Jerusalem 3 with twelve hundred chariots and sixty thousand cavalry. A countless army came with him from Egypt—Libyans, Sukkiim, and Ethiopians.[a] 4 He took the fortified cities of Judah and came as far as Jerusalem. 5 Then the prophet Shemaiah came to Rehoboam and to the officers of Judah, who had gathered at Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said to them, “Thus says the Lord: You abandoned me, so I have abandoned you to the hand of Shishak.” 6 Then the officers of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said, “The Lord is in the right.” 7 When the Lord saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah, saying: “They have humbled themselves; I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance, and my wrath shall not be poured out on Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak. 8 Nevertheless they shall be his servants, so that they may know the difference between serving me and serving the kingdoms of other lands.”
9 So King Shishak of Egypt came up against Jerusalem; he took away the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king’s house; he took everything. He also took away the shields of gold that Solomon had made; 10 but King Rehoboam made in place of them shields of bronze, and committed them to the hands of the officers of the guard, who kept the door of the king’s house. 11 Whenever the king went into the house of the Lord, the guard would come along bearing them, and would then bring them back to the guardroom. 12 Because he humbled himself the wrath of the Lord turned from him, so as not to destroy them completely; moreover, conditions were good in Judah.
Death of Rehoboam
13 So King Rehoboam established himself in Jerusalem and reigned. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign; he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city that the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel to put his name there. His mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonite. 14 He did evil, for he did not set his heart to seek the Lord.
15 Now the acts of Rehoboam, from first to last, are they not written in the records of the prophet Shemaiah and of the seer Iddo, recorded by genealogy? There were continual wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam. 16 Rehoboam slept with his ancestors and was buried in the city of David; and his son Abijah succeeded him.
