耶和华禁止他们交战(A)
11 罗波安回到耶路撒冷，就召集犹大家和便雅悯家，共十八万人，都是精兵，要和以色列人交战，好把王国夺回，再归自己。 2 但耶和华的话临到神人示玛雅，说： 3 “你要告诉所罗门的儿子、犹大王罗波安，以及所有住在犹大和便雅悯的以色列人，说： 4 ‘耶和华这样说：你们不可上去，也不可和你们的兄弟交战。你们各自回家去吧，因为这事是出于我。’”于是他们听从耶和华的话，都回家，不去攻打耶罗波安。
罗波安的建树
5 罗波安住在耶路撒冷，他在犹大建造了多座设防城。 6 他修筑了伯利恒、以坦、提哥亚、 7 伯．夙、梭哥、亚杜兰、 8 迦特、玛利沙、西弗、 9 亚多莱音、拉吉、亚西加、 10 琐拉、亚雅仑、希伯仑；这些都是犹大和便雅悯境内的设防城。 11 他又巩固这些设防城，在城里设军长，贮备粮食、油和酒。 12 又在各城装备了大盾牌和矛枪，使这些城市十分坚固。这样，犹大和便雅悯都在他统治之下。
祭司与利未人都来归罗波安
13 全以色列的祭司和利未人，都从各地来归向罗波安。 14 利未人放弃了他们的草场和产业，来到犹大和耶路撒冷，是因为耶罗波安和他的儿子排斥他们，不准他们作祭司事奉耶和华。 15 耶罗波安为邱坛、公山羊神，以及他铸造的牛犊，自己设立了祭司。 16 以色列众支派中所有定意寻求耶和华以色列的 神的，都随着利未人来到耶路撒冷，向耶和华他们列祖的 神献祭。 17 这样，他们就加强了犹大国的势力，使所罗门的儿子罗波安强盛了三年，因为他们在这三年，跟随了大卫和所罗门的道路。
罗波安的家室
18 罗波安娶了大卫的儿子耶利摩的女儿玛哈拉作妻子，她也就是耶西的儿子以利押的女儿亚比孩的女儿； 19 她给罗波安生了几个儿子，就是耶乌施、示玛利雅和撒罕。 20 后来，罗波安又娶了押沙龙的外孙女玛迦；玛迦给他生了亚比雅、亚太、细撒和示罗密。 21 罗波安共娶了十八个妻子和六十个妾；共生了二十八个儿子，六十个女儿；他却爱押沙龙的外孙女玛迦，胜过其他的妻妾。 22 于是罗波安立了玛迦的儿子亚比雅作太子，在他的兄弟中为首，因为罗波安想立他继承王位。 23 罗波安很有智慧地把自己的儿子分散在犹大和便雅悯各地的设防城中，供给他们大批粮食，又为他们娶了多位妻子。

11 Toen Rehabeam in Jeruzalem was terug gekomen, riep hij het leger van de stammen van Juda en Benjamin bij elkaar: 180.000 jonge mannen die goed met wapens konden omgaan. Met dat leger trok hij naar Israël. Hij wilde tegen hen strijden om weer koning van heel Israël te worden. 2 Maar de Heer zei tegen de profeet Semaja: 3 "Zeg tegen Rehabeam, de zoon van Salomo, de koning van Juda, en tegen de stammen van Juda en Benjamin en de rest van het volk: 4 Dit zegt de Heer: Ik wil niet dat jullie oorlog voeren tegen je eigen volk. Ga allemaal naar huis, want dit is gebeurd omdat Ik dat wilde."[a] Ze gehoorzaamden de Heer en gingen terug naar huis.
De eerste jaren van koning Rehabeam
5 Rehabeam woonde in Jeruzalem. Hij bouwde muren rond een aantal steden in Juda: 6 rond Betlehem, Etam, Tekoa, 7 Bet-Zur, Socho, Adullam, 8 Gat, Maresa, Zif, 9 Adoraïm, Lachis, Azeka, 10 Zora, Ajalon en Hebron. 11 Hij versterkte de forten, stuurde er aanvoerders heen en voorraden voedsel, olijf-olie en wijn. 12 Bovendien stuurde hij naar elke stad schilden en speren. Zo werden het sterke steden en had hij de macht in Juda en Benjamin.
13 Uit heel Israël kwamen priesters en Levieten naar koning Rehabeam toe. 14 Ze verlieten de steden waar ze woonden en trokken naar Juda en Jeruzalem, omdat ze van Jerobeam[b] en zijn zonen geen priesters voor de Heer meer mochten zijn. 15 Want Jerobeam had altaren op de heuvels gebouwd. Die waren voor de aanbidding van geesten en van de gouden kalveren die hij had laten maken. En hij wees zelf priesters voor die altaren aan.
16 Daarna kwamen ook allerlei andere mensen naar Jeruzalem die graag de Heer, de God van Israël, wilden dienen. Zij wilden aan de Heer offers blijven brengen. 17 Zij zorgden ervoor dat het koninkrijk Juda sterk werd. Drie jaar lang waren ze een grote steun voor Rehabeam, de zoon van Salomo. Want ze dienden de Heer zoals David en Salomo hadden gedaan.
18 Koning Rehabeam was getrouwd met Mahalat, de dochter van Jerimot, één van de zonen van David. Maar hij trouwde ook met Abichaïl, de dochter van Davids broer Eliab. 19 Ze kreeg drie zonen: Jeüs, Semarja en Zaham. 20 Daarna trouwde hij met Maächa, de kleindochter van Absalom. Ze kreeg vier kinderen: Abia, Attai, Ziza en Selomit.
21 Rehabeam had 18 vrouwen en 60 bijvrouwen. Hij kreeg 28 zonen en 60 dochters. Maar van Maächa hield hij het meest. 22 Daarom koos hij Maächa's zoon Abiam uit als zijn troonopvolger. 23 Maar hij was zo verstandig om zijn andere zonen te verdelen over heel Juda en Benjamin. Hij gaf hun het toezicht op de versterkte steden. Hij zorgde ervoor dat ze meer dan genoeg te eten hadden. Ook zocht hij voor hen een groot aantal vrouwen uit.

11 Cuando vino Roboam a Jerusalén, reunió de la casa de Judá y de Benjamín a ciento ochenta mil hombres escogidos de guerra, para pelear contra Israel y hacer volver el reino a Roboam. 2 Mas vino palabra de Jehová a Semaías varón de Dios, diciendo: 3 Habla a Roboam hijo de Salomón, rey de Judá, y a todos los israelitas en Judá y Benjamín, diciéndoles: 4 Así ha dicho Jehová: No subáis, ni peleéis contra vuestros hermanos; vuélvase cada uno a su casa, porque yo he hecho esto. Y ellos oyeron la palabra de Jehová y se volvieron, y no fueron contra Jeroboam.
Prosperidad de Roboam
5 Y habitó Roboam en Jerusalén, y edificó ciudades para fortificar a Judá. 6 Edificó Belén, Etam, Tecoa, 7 Bet-sur, Soco, Adulam, 8 Gat, Maresa, Zif, 9 Adoraim, Laquis, Azeca, 10 Zora, Ajalón y Hebrón, que eran ciudades fortificadas de Judá y Benjamín. 11 Reforzó también las fortalezas, y puso en ellas capitanes, y provisiones, vino y aceite; 12 y en todas las ciudades puso escudos y lanzas. Las fortificó, pues, en gran manera; y Judá y Benjamín le estaban sujetos.
13 Y los sacerdotes y levitas que estaban en todo Israel, se juntaron a él desde todos los lugares donde vivían. 14 Porque los levitas dejaban sus ejidos y sus posesiones, y venían a Judá y a Jerusalén; pues Jeroboam y sus hijos los excluyeron del ministerio de Jehová. 15 Y él designó sus propios sacerdotes para los lugares altos, y para los demonios, y para los becerros que él había hecho.(A) 16 Tras aquellos acudieron también de todas las tribus de Israel los que habían puesto su corazón en buscar a Jehová Dios de Israel; y vinieron a Jerusalén para ofrecer sacrificios a Jehová, el Dios de sus padres. 17 Así fortalecieron el reino de Judá, y confirmaron a Roboam hijo de Salomón, por tres años; porque tres años anduvieron en el camino de David y de Salomón.
18 Y tomó Roboam por mujer a Mahalat hija de Jerimot, hijo de David y de Abihail hija de Eliab, hijo de Isaí, 19 la cual le dio a luz estos hijos: Jeús, Semarías y Zaham. 20 Después de ella tomó a Maaca hija de Absalón, la cual le dio a luz Abías, Atai, Ziza y Selomit. 21 Pero Roboam amó a Maaca hija de Absalón sobre todas sus mujeres y concubinas; porque tomó dieciocho mujeres y sesenta concubinas, y engendró veintiocho hijos y sesenta hijas. 22 Y puso Roboam a Abías hijo de Maaca por jefe y príncipe de sus hermanos, porque quería hacerle rey. 23 Obró sagazmente, y esparció a todos sus hijos por todas las tierras de Judá y de Benjamín, y por todas las ciudades fortificadas, y les dio provisiones en abundancia, y muchas mujeres.

11 And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.
2 But the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
3 Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,
4 Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jeroboam.
5 And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.
6 He built even Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,
7 And Bethzur, and Shoco, and Adullam,
8 And Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,
9 And Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,
10 And Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin fenced cities.
11 And he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them, and store of victual, and of oil and wine.
12 And in every several city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.
13 And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their coasts.
14 For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from executing the priest's office unto the Lord:
15 And he ordained him priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made.
16 And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the Lord God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the Lord God of their fathers.
17 So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.
18 And Rehoboam took him Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David to wife, and Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;
19 Which bare him children; Jeush, and Shamariah, and Zaham.
20 And after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom; which bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.
21 And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines; and begat twenty and eight sons, and threescore daughters.)
22 And Rehoboam made Abijah the son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among his brethren: for he thought to make him king.
23 And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fenced city: and he gave them victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.
